What is FDEV doing and what happened to Brabens dreams?

Horizons was sold as a season pass with each part supposedly coming out every 3 months. This was sold as a complete product. You got what you’re getting.
It a live game, so there at some story stuff coming down the pipe line, new guardian ground weapons and stuff like that.

Story advancements like guardians and Thargoids seemed pretty strictly tied to Horizons and its "seasons". I don't recall seeing any indications how such things will be handled in this new system.

Actually it started off in Elite, Horizons just added stuff. Odyssey will no doubt add even more stuff, post console launch I would guess.

I see black, which look very much like a lava field to me.
Lava exist, and it's a geological anomaly. And it's not a field. More like a small spewing of lava.

From my experience, except for Ice planet that look bad, individual planet look prettier up close, but with much less variety. From space they look terrible and all similar. Plus, you also have the pop in issue, where rocks pop right in front of you, and the texture swap from lod to regular a few meters away.

And my response is they are doing their jobs, but they are not posting copy/paste responses in every thread, because they have the same opinion i do that it would be a waste of time that would instead simply generate just a different form of negative feedback.

I used to be like you, i used to think that the CMs should be active in the way you are describing. When i was a moderator here i sometimes said to Brett that the CMs should be out there actively posting all the time (not just times of crisis) showing people they are there listening.

But over the years, i've seen how the community in general will twist things the way they want to twist them (good or bad) anyway, so even if they post those who are already negative will simply say "that's not telling us anything", so in effect, a waste of the CMs time, because they won't reach the people who are being vocally negative anyway.

I've said my piece about how i view Odyssey, i think it was badly handled. I don't need the CMs to keep posting they know and they are working on it. I know they know, i know the devs are trying make things better.

Hm I know next to nothing about the contents of a community management job, for that I'll defer to people like you and @Zinegata who seem to be more knowledgeable on the subject.

It is however pretty easy to see that this may be one of the worst PR disasters Frontier has ever dealt with and there seems to be a very limited amount of outreach from them.

I remeber some of the DEVS and many Elite Dangerous Content Creators saying that the "Alpha" was just a tiny slice of Odyssey in it´s entirety. There arent many new things though. Yes a few more settlements a couple of guns and some suit skins but other than that there are not many new things compared to the "Alpha". This isn´t worth the money anyone paid. There are countless problems like the UI being a complete mess and lighting just broken. The Texture update is nice though.

I don´t know what they are thinking but they should at least release a roadmap. I am not asking for specific Dates or anything but at least tell us what is in the Works and what isn´t!

I love Elite and I have been a part of this Universe since the original Beta. I don´t want to see Elite die but if Odyssey fails, FDEV will likely abandon Elite and right now Odyssey is failing. I am sure that the developers are hard at work but the lacking insight is just bothering.

I am not trying to hate on FDEV here. They have done some good work in the past and Elite has been a literal part of my life but I am seriously trying to understand what is happening here.

no you "Can´t haz my stuff"
Yeah. That happens for literally everything they launch. They show off a big collection of features and then say "and more!" So we all get hype.

Then it drops and the "and more" is trivial at best, then they tell us "nuh uh we said 'and more' and there was more guys!"

Horizons was so bad they had to promise a bunch of free content to make up for it and here we are again. Oddly enough, a ton of people will argue with this point and pretend it didn't happen. It's the whole reason the lifetime pass holder thing became such a joke.

And I keep hoping on the grounds that I believe in the potential for the game, and I'm patient.

That would sadly be because what they call a community manager is more like an influencer manager. One of the youtuber who had his own city even called him that way.

A community manager is a lot of works. You are the conduit between community and dev, so you tell the devs issue/suggestion, and explain the future/changes to the community. You also promote community driven initiative (so that would be art, cosplay, or tools like inara/edsm). You do community driven event (contests, stream...). And finally, you work on the official news for the game. There is also much more, but that's the big part of it.
A good CM will be posting on forums, reddit, social media relatively frequently.

Apparently, the CM works for ED is more an influencer work. You find influencer, and places/ways to promote the game to sell more. There is no community interaction and whatnot, you're role is marketing, basically.

What is fdev doing: prematurely released the expansion, and hot fixing it. Yet it does add a massive amount of new stuff that takes ED to the next level.

Most technical issues will get fixed before the console release. ED had record high player count on Steam as well. It's not the end at all imo.

No it doesn't....we still dont have new SRV's, there are hardly any suits, the guns are boring and there are hardly any cool weapons, no new space ships, no new ship weapons, the AI are garbage. There is very little

That's your opinion and they're probably saving content for in-game events later this year.

But didn't they explicitly state they were moving away from that method of releasing content?
Well we know that the new Thargoid stuff is not accessible atm. So they're withholding it for later. I also think there's at least 1 new ship based on leaked info. I could be wrong, but we'll see in a few months.
