Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

However if sever meshing ever becomes a thing and there are a lot more people in a small area??? Oh boy it is going to be a gank fest.

I don't know how they are gonna handle it. Right now it can be hard to find people to kill because everyone is spread out on separate servers.

And the newest comparison/excuse has just hatched.

Starfield took 25 years to develop!!!!

25 years...well, that'll make the idiot Roberts heave a sigh of relief now that he's just been handed another excuse as to why neither of his projects will be anywhere near completion by November 2022 ;)

I'll get Starfield for free with Gamepass Ultimate as well, groovy. (y)

You'll take them ALL on :p

Well, thanks for all of this. It doesn't sound like SC is a game a single-player type like me should waste my money on.

It's definitely not a single player game, not by any stretch.

I mean, it feels like it right now because so few people populate a server, but you remember once you're making your way back to a station with a cargo hold full of ore you spent two hours mining, only to get blown up as you approach the landing pad because someone thought it would be hilarious to pop your Prospector. All of that work, all of that effort, all of that cargo, and credits, gone in the blink of an eye.

Oh, and you're counting down until the death of a spaceman, at which point you'll lose most of your things and have to start over as a "descendant" or "kin" of your previous character. So... fun?

Doesn't sound like much fun. Sounds like the crap I would have to put up with in Open if I was stupid enough to do that. No thanks.

I do appreciate the input though, thanks.

You're welcome! Also, I have firsthand experience on that Prospector scenario. I was just coming back to Port Olisar after spending the afternoon mining. I was about 100 meters from landing, and a fighter just shot at me. Two hits, and I was gone in a cloud of dust. My ship, the upgrade I'd purchased, the ore, all of that work, gone, and of course nothing happened to the attacker because you can easily get around penalties if you know how to do it. This game is going to be a griefer's paradise.

This is one of the selling points for Elite to me. Yes, it's fun to have a world with players immersed in playing sci-fi roles. The hard working miner, plowing away at rocks for hours to make a pittance. The desperate pirates, willing to commit crimes to make ends meet. The government/corporate lackeys, who don't question orders or the mercenary who will do any job for the highest bidder. But sometimes you just want to play a game and make some progress without being at the mercy of someone else's role-play fantasy.

And that's why Elite's option of Open and Solo is so compelling.

The player that blew you up, were they already red?

I've flown a prospector into PO many times, saw one or more red players and left as quick as I could. Had them come after me, but have been fast enough to get out without getting killed.

Go read CIG's comments or the forums. They are all talking about the multiplayer experience and there isn't going to be much protection there for the solo player. Go ask questions about how you will be expected to survive in SC and the answers are always the same. Join an Org. Play with others.

However, if that is true for the PvEers, then it also holds true for the gankers. Just because gankers are often viewed as anti-social misfits, they can also group up. c.f: SDC.

For those of us who can't commit to hours long sessions playing with others, SC doesn't offer a good value proposition based on what people are saying.

As for SQ42, if it ever actually release, a lot of people suspect its mainly going to be watching loads of FMV scenes as CR wanted to get his Hollywood director groove on.

"Well, Starfield's been in the works for 25 years, so really, Star Citizen is ahead of schedule, going by standard development cycles." - Reddit, probably

Wed 18 Jul 2018:
As for Starfield, Bethesda’s new sci-fi role-playing game, Howard says we shouldn’t expect to play it soon: “We’ve been talking about it for a decade, we started putting things on paper five, six years ago, and active development was from when we finished Fallout 4, so two and a half, three years.”
