Ok given the sheer amount of iconic large fauna in SA I think it has to be a habitat animal pack. But I'm not very interested in realisim so I'm gonna ignore whether any of these are commonly found in Zoos! In no particular order:
1. Kudu - tall elegant antelope with iconic horns and a majestic air about them. Pretty iconic to the savanna environment.
2. Guinea Fowl - we need more birds and they don't really get more iconic than these handsome little guys. I saw so many of them while I was over there. I went for the helmeted as the most iconic. Plus we need more birds!
3. Caracal - I nearly went for a baboon species as I saw so many over there but I have really fond memories of the caracals and they would be a pretty unique addition to the roster with their size and pouncing behaviour.
4. habitat species I'm going for the Cape Rain Frog because frankly I think we need to represent the unique ecology of the cape region and we also need more ugly animals on the roster. Could also have a unique exhibit environment with animations of them emerging from their burrows and 'blowing itself up' to twice the size when alarmed.
