Odyssey Going Forwards

It means that we will see more game updates over the coming months. We will continue to work through Issue Tracker, fix bugs and improve performance, but we will also be able to explore and add additional features, content and improvements into the game.

So it more or less confirms the suspicion that EDO is following the season pass structure where more content will be released over time?

Its nothing more than to placate players into thinking they actually care. If they did care this expansion would've never been released and still being developed.
Certainly. It is to make players feel better and that they care. Its the right message to make.

Fundamentally everything said in the OP is reasonably true and believable:
  • No dates were stated.
  • No promises were made.
  • Console release is indefinitely delayed.
  • Their staff is working.

What I’m reading is “best case scenario, 6-8 months spent on bug fixes, the another 6-8 on console releases, then another year or so for meaningful additions to the gameplay.” And that’s best case. We all know how quickly things move here.

Just fixing the bugs won’t make this expansion feel not completely bolted on to the main game with nothing to do but grind to grind marginally better. The new engineering grind is awful, like F2P 2013 games awful and the only balance passes we generally get are nerfs to income/mat grinding. I’m a primarily VR player so I’m a bit annoyed that the previously best in class VR experience is basically being sidelined. Like seriously the best VR experiences I’ve had are in this game.
I guess my response is “I’ll believe it when I see it.” I’m not mad, just kind of over this whole thing. I’ll check in in November or so and see if it’s worth reinstalling. Thanks for the fun times.

Do we really need to discuss all the bugs and lack of content plaguing NMS for years?
Apart from that, didn't the base game and Horizon turn into something good as well?
I got both on PC as Xbox and enjoy the hell out of them on both platforms.
I can agree with you upon that the way Odyssey has been launched shouldn't be the standard but unfortunately that is how a lot of software is pushed out these days.
And to be honest, I too would delay it for consoles since releasing something that brings them sub 10 fps would be much worse.

NMS launch was buggy, yes But they immediately went into dark mode and hammered those out pretty quickly. They've been pounding out the content as fast as they can. And by the time it launched on Xbox it had everything that was promised, plus some. And they've continued to update the game, adding new content, new gameplay loops, new story, all without asking for a dime or selling ship skins and face tattoos.
And they did that all within 2 years, roughly.
Elite has been out for 6-7 years.
SIX ALMOST SEVEN YEARS...
Say that part out loud and let it sink in for a moment....
Six, almost seven years...
Frontier has no excuse.

By this time it will then potentially release on consoles 3 years outdated by the current gen they have 'no plans' for. I just cant

Atleast be original

Nah, they cancelled seasons after they sold "Lifetime Passes", that "guaranteed 10 years/seasons of content", for a couple of years and only delivered on one "season".
Lifetime pass owner here. It's something I regularly think about. It costed like 175€ I believe, meaning that we're 55€ short to make it worthwhile if my math is correct. I'm not counting the Iridescent Gleam and Midnight Black paintjobs obviously. Also still waiting the "exclusive content". I mean I don't really regret it since I have almost 1200 hours in the game, but you know, it's pretty much like selling something you can't deliver.

So you apologize for whatever it was you apologized for with the initial release of Odyssey. Not really taking any accountability, because I don't recall you saying you were sorry for releasing unfinished product as finished. Then promising transparency on what you were going to do to fix that mistake (that you didn't take accountability for) and now apologizing for the poor follow through on your promise to do what you said you were going to do.

I detect a trend here.

That you decided to push back the delivery of Odyssey isn't stunning and brave, it's obvious. That you are stating a commitment to fixing the PC version before rolling out another hot mess, also is not a huge shock.

I dont even play PC and I can only shake my head at how this has been allowed to be handled. Stunning and brave would be a full accounting of what, who, how, and why this was handled the way it was, and offering refunds to all those who want them.

Your apology meant nothing the first time you offered it and this apology only verifies my original assumption that the first was disingenuous. You have spent all of your good will tokens. Now, the only acceptable apology is an actual deliverable.

Put your money where your mouth is and offer refunds to any player who wants it. Then fix it and maybe, just maybe listen to your customer, attend to your product and let's see what happens.

"We all have the same goal and we will get there, together"

Thank you for the update, David. But could you please share with us what your goal is exactly? Is it still the same as the vision you had during the kickstarter? I would genuinely like to know, because yours and the player bases goals might have deviated years ago.
Interesting.

What are Frontier's goals? Long term and short term.
What legacy would Mr Braben like to have for his company?

Frontier need not share its goals with me, but I most certainly hope for its future well-being that Frontier has very well defined short term and long term mission goals.

Without specificity and prioritization of goals, decisions will probably be much harder to make and valuable resources wasted.

It is crucial for stability and consistency that goal specificity, missions and prioritization are upheld.

I do not care what specific features are added to Elite. What I do care about is Frontier getting control over their engine so that when they try to fix bugs they do not end up breaking something else. What I do care about is dev coders who actually have played the game extensively.

Most of us can see right through the blah blah blah PR, yet we still wish the best for the game and Frontier.

For your own sake, Frontier, please get your act together.
