Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Update 6

While FSR basically seems a good idea, it is unusable in VR at least with the CV1, as things are extremely blurry whatever you choose. On performance settings, I get 90fps again in dark space (at times), as in the menu screen (interestingly fps climb up after a while), but in the game, the text is barely readable then and it's unbearable inside starports. Does not make up for gettting a more stable 45fps ASW in CZs, so I had to switch it off. The best image I ever got in VR was in Update 5 with the old AMD option enabled, so I would beg to add that again, as it really made things crisp even though it was a slideshow for most parts.

Anyhow, keep up the good work! Hope we'll get there some day. 🍻

O7,

@sallymorganmoore I'm sorry to bother you about that one second delay again, but it's changes like this that make me think decisions are made very lightly. My spider-sense triggered as soon as I read it on the patch notes. Didn't anyone at FD say "wait a minute, why do this? This won't end well!". I think there's a procedure problem, too, apart from the bugs. I don't want to insult anyone, but really, does anyone test these things? and if they do, can they express a negative opinion, and if they do, does it matter?

Edit: typo.

I think it's more like there so much to fix and improve that there's no time to double check some decisions by someone who actually plays the game.
Or they are doing some extreme agile development :p

Materials are not cargo and never go into a cargo hold, instead automatically reflect in your materials list. As for not being able to pick up materials, are you sure aren't just at capacity for that specific mat? This should show up at the bottom left of your HUD in the target information readout. Also make sure the item is targeted and your cargo scoop is open. o7

I was coincidentally (before update 6) at Dav´s Hope ... after update 6 i found nothing (apart from the signals/dataports, which i cant use). Switched serveral times from
open to single and back ... nope. The hope is dead... no materials - no nada. Another Odessey bug.

Furthermore, when I activate the AMD FX option, my displays (font) becoming completely grainy / washed. Turning off > sample rate 1.5 > looks good. Elite still needs
time to load textures (planet) - a little bit minecraft style. There are still no marker after a surface scan like in Horizions. Low frame rates (RTX 2060 super) - Forza H. 4,
WOT, GTA, NFS Heat or Project Cars running smooth at 1440p / high>ultra on my system. Always latest driver.

Maybe i should wait until there will be a release version (....)

Hello! @sallymorganmoore Can we get some help on these 2 issues? https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/41193 https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/41190 Thing is, after patch 6, there is some things with Notoriety. We get it in Anarchy systems, killing Anarchy ships, and for settlements. I think this is major thing for Odyssey, since we do our farm mostly in Anarchy systems, and this bug hinders it alot.

Also can new "crime loot" can be toggable thing from Controls? If we intend to steal things I would like to do it in fast click, I am sure as most of us xD

Aside from that, Patch 6 is great! I love new AMD FSR, picture is amazing, and got few FPSes on top :)

Thank you for getting so many more fixes implimented.
I am still not playing as much, however it is encouraging to see so many fixes being implemented.

Hey CM team,
Really appreciating the engagement and feedback, please keep looking after yourselves first and foremost!

Some feedback from a session this morning, sorry about this.

Performance
Performance hasn't improved for me, Odyssey FPS is still 60-65% that of Horizons in directly comparible places with no on foot elements, with Odyssey's FPS being noticably more unstable never mind the drops and extra instability when I go to an Odyssey settlement or concourse.
I know there are deeper performance improvements being looked at, I hope they're addressed the direct performance downgrade compared to Horizons as well as specific on foot elements.

I've tried down-sampling and using FSR, it definitely works and helps with FPS but adds a LOT more aliasing to the image, makes the text harder to read and also just doesn't look as nice to me (1440p monitor and VR headset with 4k per eye)

Paintjobs
With the Stygian (and Iridescent) paintjobs, the problem was not the colour, it's that half the PJ is missing (I've checked this morning)
In Odyssey it looks like this:
Stygian green Odyssey.jpg

In Horizons it looks like this:
Stygian green Horizons.jpg

Repeating terrain
Finally in regards to the repeating terrain geography you're talking about here:
If you can share some examples we might need to look at then I'll be able to tell what the current situation is. Thanks!
I drove the SRV over some cool terrain, then flew to the other side of the world and saw the exact same terrain.

Please stop discriminating against anarchy factions, TIA.

Not your fault but remains absolutely awful how Odyssey's content singles out anarchy factions as everyone's whipping boys. Would really like someone to have thought about the BGS effects in advance.
I strongly think that if you leave no survivers there should be no bounties or notoriety :) At least for PvE. Specially if you disable alarm, then any settlement should become like Anarchy. And also no bounty for stealth kill of course, this is really doesnt make sense.

PS I take support missions to pay money to any Anarchy faction I have raided to keep reputation in tact, dont know if it helps BGS.

Some people aren't looking for solutions but things to be angry about. At least you tried to help, rest is up to him. :)
Some people are fed up with sending more time in the settings just trying to make the game playable and look decent, than actually playing the game.

When I go from a great looking, high FPS game(Horizons), to an ugly, broken textured, low FPS mess - I expect the developers to fix it.

It's been over two months and 6 major updates since the release:
FPS is still bad ( < 30 ) in places.
There are still texture issues.
You still have to enable 'bloom' just for coloured emissive textures to actually be coloured.
You now have to enable SuperSampling because without it the frame rate is unplayable for a lot of people - this is not a FIX, it's a work around and not a great one!

My first thoughts on seeing Update 6 is it looks horrible, much worse than Update 5, aliasing specifically is terrible now - even enabling SuperSampling:Ultra Quantity it still doesn't look as good as Update 5, but at least I get a couple of extra FPS. AMD's supersampling is NOT a fix or a magic bullet to solve FDev poor game engine code.

I think the crime and death stuff is still a broken mess too:
I took a chance and played in Open during the FDev's live stream - obviously a bad idea for anyone not in a fully engineered PvP ship ( which I have no interest in ) so naturally I was ganked within a couple of minutes of entering the Thoth system ( no chat, just interdicted and killed, I'd no bounty and no cargo ) I respawned at a station in same system. I bought a sidey and tried again to make it to a planet, I got ganked while trying to land. This time I respawned in my ship aboard a mega ship in a completely different system, I thought it was a prison ship(not sure) but I wasn't in a cell and I had no bounty or fines - but because I was in a Sidey and Thoth was now 4 jumps away I didn't even have the fuel to get back there! ( I had to stop and buy fuel after a couple of jumps ). It makes no sense why I respawned where I did.

So the first time playing Odyssey since Update 5 was as frustrating and disappointing as last time.

I wonder if Update 7 will be any better - see you all in another month or so ...

If disabling the system link disabled crime reporting that would be an amazing change.
If disabling the alarms at a settlement disabled the system link in an area that'd be fantastic.

Sorry, but EDO is obviously visually lightyears ahead of Horizons. Beyond that I dont see anywhere in that rant why its okay to have a meltdown to some user trying to help, but whatever. Heck, half your rant is just you being angry at other people killing you in-game...

I disagree wholeheartedly. Never have I seen so many dancing shadows, flickering textures and odd choices made in lighting. To me its a downgrade - and thats before mentioning performance.

I am so happy that you enjoy ODY, but I do not - and frankly just want my money back.

Well, I think you must cruise out and then in. At least everything else works in such way now. No more relogs, devs always considered it a bug.

Sorry, but I can't see the repetition of the B areas even though you've marked it out.

Have you asked for it?
I did and was refused on the basis that I had played it too much (I don't know exactly how many hours but no more than 20, and most of that was to test stuff in alpha, not actually play the game).
Frontier should have offered a refund no questions asked to those that wanted one, given the circumstances.

That being said I have so far found update 6 to be pretty positive, certainly regarding planet surfaces. The lighting in the cockpit and stations is still way off.
