Newcomer / Intro My Return to ED ......

Ok
(1) Successfully sold the gun (y)

(2) I want to buy the Scoop first.
How do I go to the Shop to look for a Scoop ? (If I go by selecting a particular module, say Life Support, it just takes me to the part of the Shop with only Life Support modules.)
I need to browse the whole Shop maybe .......
Click on Optional Internal Modules, click on one of the size 3 slots that might have a cargo rack in it, then on Browse Shop and from there to buy the fuel scoop exchanging the cargo rack for it (if there was one) one the way. Cargo racks are easy to buy when you want them and for some reason the Hauler comes with a size 2 cargo rack in a size 3 slot which is wasting some of the size 3 capacity - you can put a bigger cargo rack in that space if you actually want the cargo carrying capacity.

For completeness, here's a shot of me near a Sidewinder. For comparison to the Hauler pic I posted before. The Sidey is actually big as a house :)

If it was a standard item (it was in the SideWinder) where's the one gone that I transferred from the Sidewinder ?
Maybe it hasn't transferred.
Maybe I don't know how to transfer something. :(

2.10am here. Time for 😴. Thanks boys.
It's 5.54am. can't sleep. Need to find maybe my second Advanced Auto Docking Module. ;)

At some point you need to take the training wheels of and have no docking computer - there are two things that don't belong on an exploration ship - weapons and docking computers 😅. Unless you explore with an Anaconda and have so many optional internal slots available you might as well stick a docking computer in it.
It's 9pm here and I'll be heading for bed in an hour or so. You should be sleeping young man 😉

Next stop - It's about 12,000,000 credits to get a DBX at the right specification. That will be at least 12, ideally 15 stops on a "road to riches" to be sure to get that money - if that is how you want to go about raising the credits.
I was amazed at how cheap the Hauler was. 😮 Only around 53,000 credits. I was expecting 530,000 credits !
I just looked up a road to riches list for you that should get you to 15 million and ends in a system called Maia. But do pick some other random place you fancy heading for instead and ignore this list if you like - you can make your own by choosing a different destination.
No, no. I'll try yours. It's no different from doing a prescribed mission.
There is a space station and planetary bases in Maia you can dock at to get repairs/restock/refuel if needed (but you have a fuel scoop of course). You might be able to sell your exploration data at the station in Maia system (forget if it has Universal Cartographics or not),
Have I got any exploratory data ?
but you'll need to fly back to the bubble area to buy any ships. In fact, Diaguandri and the Ray Gateway station is one of the nearest to Maia about 258 ly away and one of the best places to buy ships due to the wide availability and 10% discount.
(y)
I've pasted the road to riches list here, click SPOILER to reveal it.
As you get closer to Maia, if you see any NON-HUMAN Signal Sources in a system, stay way from them. Visiting a NON-HUMAN Signal Source Threat Level 7 lead to the fastest destruction of my ship I've seen in combat so far. Thargoids are not always pleased to see you....

You should find the same list here:

There are other ways to get the 12 million you need and of course you should always play your game the way you want to, but this the quickest way to get credits with a Hauler and you can do your own freestyle exploring looking at whatever you see as you go along with this.
No, that's ok. It's just a prescribed mission to me.
You're the boss ...... you've provided as much detail as you can ....... my reward is the ability to earn 12 million credits ......thanks boss. 🤗

Optional Internal modules do not have to be replaced with anything. All the core internals are mandatory for the ship to fly, so there musty always be at least an E rated module for every core internal module on a ship.
Yes, that's something I learned in this exercise: Your newly purchased ship comes fully fitted out ready to fly away.
They may only be the basic module installed, but you are ready to go.
You are even armed ! 😮
I expected to be "moduleless".
That's where I thought they made their money and why the Hauler was so cheap to buy.
Just like we get stung in the real world with things. :p

Thanks. Will look at this shortly. Need to finish replying to posts first ......

Ha ! Thanks ....... but not yet ..... get this Docking module(s) issue sorted first, get Manita 2 properly fitted out, store Manita safely, sweep the Hanger out, pack the tools away, lockup securely ....... don't want my Hauler messed with ......... ;)

Can't believe how big she is. Which to me, is one of the many nice parts about ED, although I don't know about other sims.
I don't want to be flying some Go-Kart.
I'm used to flying simulations of F-22's and F-16's. Not small, but not as big as ED's ships.

Have I got any exploratory data ?
It is usually the case that the basic ship is only a fraction of the total amount you spend by the time you have bought all the good specifications modules for it.

Exploratory data is gathered in several ways, and you need to watch a video guide for this:
If your ship fly's close enough to planets to fully detect their nature, they become discovered automatically - this is low value exploration data. You can use the basic DScanner to "honk" the system and find out how many bodies it has - this is low value exploration data. Then use the Full Spectrum Scanner (FSS) to "discover" the nature of other planets and moons in the system without needing to supercruising up to them - this is moderate value exploration data.
The road to riches list tells you which systems have Earth Like World's and Water World's and the last digit of the system name is the planet number to supercruise to. When in range you use the Detailed Surface Scanner (DSS) to shoot probes at the planet to map it. That map data is exploration data that is high value - around 1 million credits for each Earth Like World (ELW) and Water World (WW). High metal content world's have good value to map in the 200,000 to 600,000 range. If you map planets using the target number of probes or less, the exploration data is worth a bit more.
If your ship is destroyed, you lose any exploration data you have not sold at Universal Cartographics at a station.
If you are still in a station, go to Universal Cartographics now. You should see you have at least a little data to sell just from traveling here.
You can only sell data for locations at least 20ly from the station you are in. When you have a lot of data to sell, it is shown in pages. You sell one page at a time.
When I got to Colonia I had about 15 pages of data to sell.
As said, you need to watch one of the road to riches YouTube videos to learn how to do this.

I feel this way about the Silver Phoenix - I go to Advanced Maintenance and do the ship integrity repairs and paintwork repair every time. These two repair items are not done when you do the regular "repair" option - have to go into Advanced Maintenance to find the option to do it.

Nothing will put you to sleep like a docking computer, so your plan checks out.
At the moment my Auto Docking Module is a must. I can relax while it auto docks me. So far I've only hit something once: the rim of a station on the way to the entry slot. Only small, repairable damage. And it docks so quickly. Far quicker than I ever could. Besides, it gives me time to comb my hair, visit the bathroom, get my coffee mug out, etc. ;)

It can be tempting to let the game play itself for you, but I'd not recommend that. This is primarily a game about flying spaceships, that's it (well except for Odyssey, but I'll not go there). Whatever else you do in the game is based upon that. Sure, you can trade and have the ship take off and dock by itself, but why would you, the credits don't mean anything. All they do is enable you to buy more and different ships, and why would you do that if you're not going to fly them?

Flying in normal space time (not supercruise) is the most fun part of the game I would say.

Learn to dock (and take off) manually. It's really not difficult, especially in a small ship. And it's fun and satisfying when you get to a point where you can do it well. You have ooodles of time, 10 minutes from when you request docking to when you need to be on the pad, loads of time to make mistakes and figure out the mechanics, and 5 minutes from when you launch to be out of the station.

Just my 2 cents worth. ;)

Maybe it hasn't transferred.
Maybe I don't know how to transfer something. :(
Both ships have their own Advanced Auto Docking Module, so no transfer took place.

To facilitate a transfer I freed up a class 2 slot on the SideWinder, then bought and installed a class 2 scoop.
I had a spare class 2 slot available on the Hauler, but I couldn't get the level 2 scoop on the SideWinder to transfer. (see below)
Why ?

Yes new ships come with Core modules of course but they are usually E rated whose only good point is they are cheap.
Some Optional modules and Weapons are also included these tend to be a size smaller than the slot can take.

On ships like the Hauler this just means that jump range and cargo capacity isn’t what it could be, as you move onto bigger and allegedly better things these modules cause more problems. The Python for example was notorious for its poor performance out of the box which coupled with its relatively high price used to lead to a lot of commanders ending up back in the free Sidewinder due to running out of insurance rebuy money.

In the screenshot above you are attempting to Transfer a 2E fuel scoop, but you have to Store it at this point. Then switch ships. Then transfer from storage to the new ship.

Oh! Does that apply to every item you are trying to transfer ? 😮 ie. It has to go into storage before it can be transferred ?
