Update 8?

which would point to a general disdain for emotes.
That is exactly what it is.
But nonsense is nonsense and fluff is fluff, no matter how many people vote for it. But as it is, it leaves the stale taste of pandering more and more to the masses and the very young players
He literally said that to him adding four emotes is 'nonsense' and 'pandering to masses' and 'very young players' (oh lordy, young players! Horror!) of 'the twitter generation' ( :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:). It is just so incredibly ludicrously absurd that when people point and laugh he tries to twist it into some grand statement about nothing whatsoever. The quotes are there for all to see.

The overt elitism of feeling better than 'the masses' and 'very young people' makes it even better. Especially if what is being looked down upon is waving at other people. In a online computer game.

Unreal Tournament (1999) was the first game I recall playing that had 'emotes'... There may have been others that I never played beforehand.

When I said "you" I didn't mean you in person. This was directed to quite a few people posting here. It's hilarious that no one seems to bother with some of the undeniable facts of the OP, like for example

Instead, you are pleased to work off a few statements that you have taken out of context. But at least you can still laugh at yourselves, even if no one really knows what for.
People have been so kind to repeatedly explain that to you, but I guess you were to busy being upset about young people waving that you missed it. Maybe go back and read what they wrote, its the polite thing to do. :)

You didn't address a single thing I said. I'm trying to have a legitimate dialogue with you.

The "undeniable fact" you are referring to is implying that adding the emotes and 4-player MC is actively detracting from the optimization and bug fixing process.

That's not an "undeniable fact" because different teams work on different things. In game development, departments don't put themselves on hold and twiddle their thumbs while the core code team optimize things. The animation and rigging team have nothing to do with shaders, lighting, or VFX which are the main culprits (presumably) for the poor performance in Odyssey.

So my point then is that, if they are not part of the optimization process, then what are they meant to do? Nothing?

Gestures and 4P MC doesn't contribute to Odyssey being fixed, neither does it hinder the devs that are fixing it in ANY way. That's what we in here want to make clear to you. Those who make the animations won't work on a console port, neither do artists who add another seat. It isn't a huge coding endeavor either, because then they clearly wouldn't have done it. Priority lies on optimization, since release. Nothing has changed, nor will be changed in the coming updates. Only the things the other parts of the team worked on will be introduced to the game, which is a + in my book.

And, hand-gestures?
Yes, it would've been nice if there was an easy way for players to communicate but, erm, this isn't it.
Dunno if FDev were shooting for some kind of Fortnite-style gimmick but, erm, this isn't it.
I find hand-gestures incredible useful in games like Space Engineers and No Man's Sky. It's a great way to communicate "friend or foe" to strangers with minimal effort, and it's just fun in a social setting. Ridiculous dancing, on the other hand, that kinda breaks my immersion (though more "serious" dancing can be fun if there are some pretty lady avatars around).

As for your other complaints, the person designing character gestures is not the same person who is debugging graphics pipeline rendering or even character AI. So adding gestures is not diverting resources from fixing bugs, at least it shouldn't be if Frontier's team is structured in a logical way.

I get people being upset with how long it's taking to fix Odyssey, but now you're just chasing laser pointers rather than catching mice.

Sorry man, they didn't 'sweep it under the rug' just because you didnt read the news update or watch the new stream. Reality exist even if you dont look at it. Its called 'object permanence'.

The normal thing to do now would be to say:"Oh right, they didn't try to hide it, they are openly and actively communicating about it." Or you can double-down. Also fun.

You DID read the post I made where I acknowledged that FDev are probably addressing those issues elsewhere, right?

I am simply making the point that I consider these new "features" to be trite nonsense and that FDev would be better off continuining to showcase more important changes instead.

Watching that video is almost a perfect example of "hanging new curtains in a burning house".

Just as well I DIDN'T suggest otherwise then, eh?
You effectively did when you said this:
Basically, we're getting 4 player MC and hand-gestures.

The first thing that I took away from this video was that FDev seem to be attempting to ignore the train-wreck that Odyssey was/is and focus on "new features" instead.
The second thing I took away from this video is that these "new features" are really, really, inane.

I mean, didn't FDev say that they were going to focus on getting PC Odyssey "fixed" prior to a console release?
How is 4 player MC and hand-gestures contributing to either of those objectives?
You actively ignored the bug fixes and optimizations they explicitly mentioned in order to paint the narrative that the things you pointed out in your original post are here to pander to players and take away focus from them not "fixing" the game.

That entire argument falls apart if you acknowledge that in the dev update post, right above the video you're hyper-focusing on, they quite literally say this:

1. FPS performance in Odyssey

With the bulk of our navmesh optimisations now in place with Update 7, alongside a number of other changes, our code team is now looking at further optimisations with an immediate focus on lighting, slated for release in Update 8. Further work is also underway for Update 9.

2. Anti-Aliasing on Foot

In Update 7 we improved anti-aliasing on planetary terrain in close-up. Further improvements will arrive in Update 8 and we will be looking at other areas for improvement in future updates.

3. FPS stuttering at on-foot settlements, apparent after Update 5

We have identified further improvements to the navmesh to be made in Update 8 which we believe will substantially improve instances of stuttering upon disembarking at a settlement.

They address they very things you are implying they are sweeping under the rug. You are being dishonest in your assessment and implications. Why?

If the video was released in a vacuum ergo there was no developer blog or a long form dev stream then you might have a point. However, there was a stream over an hour in length and a blog post.

Your problem is you either didn't look for more information or did and all this thread is really about you being angry at Frontier because the things being added in addition to them working on bug fixes are not to your taste.

It is weird.

"They are ignoring it and sweeping it under the rug."
"No, that is just a false accusation. It is the first thing they mention in their updates here and there."
"Dont blame me, I didn't know that."
"So know you do know it you will edit out the accusation?"
"Lol no."

Again: some people love to be outraged. Its not about what is true at all, as long as your angry feelings are true you can rage away on the keyboard. :D Its why he didn't start with "Hey guys, I saw the new features but I was wondering if they said something about performance. Tia!"

That would ruin the anger. :D

I'm seeing 5 pages of people saying "Buuut.... in a different video...."

I don't mean to sound argumentative but try framing your argument in a way that DOESN'T need for you to cite a different source in order to refute what I said about THIS video.
