Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I don't know Kate as a player of space games, only came across her in a group playing Arma 3. She seems a good team player, so the game fits her well.
She is getting more out of the game because of group play. I played single, so didn't get that out of the game. I think it will come for single players (should the game be finished),, just a matter of time, probably a lot of time.

She says she can't afford to splurge on ships and stuff and expected it to be hard to get stuff. It wasn't that bad. I've talked about the oh a girl, shower her with gifts mentality before, but that was conjecture on my part and i've got no proof that Kate was gifted anything... although i'd be surprised if she wasn't, either by players or CIG.

She did get gifted a load of creds… bought a load of ships…

But hey, so did DtEA, and he’s a fugly lady ;)

In a way. Another streamer who spent over $1000 in their first three months with the game (check the lovely golden armour ;)) gifted him 50mil aUEC...

As he says there, content creators have to have an 890J...

(And it would be horrible for them to have to stream all that early days pleb grind ;))

Seems that some citizens just wanna roll out the red carpet ;)

Yeah, pretty fair, including the criticisms, i can't disagree with any of it, it is visually beautiful, very immersive.

The point she made about it only having one star system, i have said it my self there is vastly more visual diversity in that one star system than in all of ED's 8 Billion systems because they are just replicas of eachother, while is SC the 10+ worlds it has are all completely different even with completely different biomes on different parts of the planet and a lot of them are very densely populated with assets, literal cities and almost tropical planes.
I can go to the same spot a dozen time and each time it will look different because the lighting at different times of the day have a substatial visual effect on it and there are many different weather systems that pass over it.

Ships being actually fully fleshed out inside and out as something purposely designed with incredible detail, you can literally make your ship your home and live in it around the verse...
I realise not everyone cares about that at all but for those that do its huge and done incredibly well.

Your personal weapons, they are just disposable guns, again beautifully detailed and they look like guns and not something i designed in Blender and 3D printed as a present for a small child... and there are about 100 of them so plenty to chose from with each one beautifully crafted and detailed.

I could go on and on....

The bad stuff, yes the NPC's are laughably bad, it has a myriad of strange bugs that make you stop and go what? even me with thousands upon thousands of hours in it the game occasionally makes me stop and think what was that? what just happened??????

Development time, i don't think its slow, i know better than that, its actually very quick all things considered once they get going on something, the problem is they keep changing their mind and starting again, i think at this point we are on our fourth ship HUD rework, and that's only the tip of the iceberg.

Beautiful: Yes
immersive: yes
Massive / Complex: yes
Buggy: yes
Frustrating sometimes: yes
Awesome: yes.

Yes, it's a tech demo not a game.

Came back just to post this as I watched it and can relate with much of Kate's experience, the more you play SC the harder it gets to endure coming back Elite.
No wonder so many have stopped playing and stick to forum posting.

Kate really nailed it when she said:
"To me after so long in Star Citizen now, and even with the graphical changes to Elite,
it feels in comparison to Star Citizen like a toy-version of a space game,
if that makes sense, like a stripped-down-lesser-version."

And going by the many CMDR's commenting the video, it's a fealing share by many CMDRs.

Not bad for a tech demo.

I've talked about the oh a girl, shower her with gifts mentality before, but that was conjecture on my part and i've got no proof that Kate was gifted anything... although i'd be surprised if she wasn't, either by players or CIG. It was a golden opportunity for CIG to give her something to ease her progress, and we know CIG have done it before. But again, i've no proof, it is conjecture on my part.

What do you think FDev was giving her when she was making all that Elite content? Let her have a Corvette without going through the Fed reputation stuff? Maybe let her get a Fleet Carrier with no upkeep costs?

Youre a lot better at this conjecture stuff than I am. So what you do think they set her up with?

I've watched Kate's video and I think most of what she says is fair and reasonable. It's her view after all. Having said that, and even though I've only played a few free-flies in SC, there are a couple of things I have to disagree with.

Let's start with this one:
"To me after so long in Star Citizen now, and even with the graphical changes to Elite, it feels in comparison to Star Citizen like a toy-version of a space game, if that makes sense, like a stripped-down-lesser-version."

I feel completely the opposite. Perhaps because I'm an explorer-type, I instead find SC the "toy-version of a space game". Perhaps if SC had the 100+ star systems as promised I might feel differently, but I can only judge by what I've seen so far - that SC is quite lacking as a "space game" compared to ED. This is further reinforced by quantum travel in SC being on rails, as opposed to ED's free flight super cruise. ED wins hands down as a "space game", IMO. She has a differing opinion, no issue there.

Secondly, she says:
"It is more immersive for me on a monitor than Elite was in VR."

Really? All I can say is that on a monitor I find SC and ED of similar "immersion", with SC taking the lead on foot with its expansive cities, and ED taking the lead in space. But when it comes to VR, it's a slam dunk win to ED. There is nothing as immersive as sitting in VR in an asteroid field or outside a station looking around 360 degrees (4π steradians to be pedantic) at planetary and stellar bodies. Again, I can't say Kate is wrong. It's her opinion. But her comment makes me question her critique.

Other than those though, I agree with the majority of what she says.

Considering the number of people employed, i would say its glacially slow.

Also, even if we say its going at a good pace, that pace, compared to what they still need to deliver for a) a releasable product and b) to fulfil all their promises means a) is still years away and b) is still decades away.

If FD gifted her stuff, then i'd also be against that. I do not believe FD did as i've never heard of FD gifting people ships for promoting the game. CIG on the other hand, we know it has happened.

SC seems more like a planet/leg based game with some space/ship based elements. ED seems more like a space/ship game with some planet/leg based elements.

I mean when odyssey came out, there were all kinds of sponsored streams for it. so we know they will pay cash. but damn your conjecture game really fell short on this one.
