Drew Wagar's Thoughts

I'm glad you're back to your usual positive, open-minded persona. Anyway, I would've put some first person combat on my wishlist. Why not.

I'm a very positive person actually... and I always try and stay open minded.

Just not particularly positive about the current and future state of Elite is all. 🤷‍♀️

My disappointment in that is equal to Drew's in many ways, but glad that some are finding enjoyment in it. It's no longer my game though... if it ever was. Such is life. An FPS is anathema to what I think of as Elite, and another reason I would never have backed it if I'd known they were planning on taking the game in that direction, but you live and learn. Don't trust anyone, would appear to be the lesson here. And particularly don't believe anything that people will tell you to extract sizeable chunks of money from you, especially if they're selling a promise and a dream.

Strolling around a settlement taking out the inhabitants and taking a load of stuff is more satisfying than in probably should be lol.

One of my favourite parts of Odyssey is walking around a settlement on eggshells, because the whole place might turn feral if I sneeze. The guards, the occasional Omnipol... they're all frightening and forbidding in a good way.

Better still, if it's a lawful settlement there's no way I'm killing anyone, so I really do have to take my time and be really careful.

And that's something I love about visiting settlements.

No matter who you ask, you'll get more answers than you asked for is my point... which, judging by your last sentence, you probably agree with me on that.
I'd certainly not be arguing against it, just read through pretty much any thread on the forum and the same topic has many stances displayed!

Interestingly, exploration in Odyssey doesn't require anything extra bar a suit (even stock is perfectly adequate) as everything else is already on the exploration ship as 'standard' equipment.

There is a vast variety of Flora, interesting as well as boring bodies to explore (exactly as in Horizons) and the same old galaxy with 400 billion stars to visit...

It's a problem since either 7.0 or 7.01. I wondered why my limpets all committed suicide by ramming the asteroid, until I noticed by selecting any (and this applies to all mats that spawned as part of mining) raw mats they were out of my reach i.e. inside the boundaries of the rock. The only workaround in EDO is to put all raw mats on your ignore list... but since I need them for engineering I switched to EDH because there it works just fine (famous last words). I could reproduce it each time I went mining, in different locations, and have seen others here mention it also.

Edit - this was in metallic rings only, I wonder if it's not a problem in icy ones. Haven't mined in those in ages.

Yes, it's a problem in ice rings. I had to put all the raw mats on ignore here as well.

Yeah, which really needs fleshing out and adding depth to - so there aren't 400 billion near-identical places to visit & a relative handful of 'flora' to stand in three places (for some reason that nobody has ever adequately explained) and scan.

Odyssey is such a train wreck though that it's going to be years (if ever) before any of that is addressed, based on FD's current progress.

The universe may be infinite, but I am not... and life goes on whilst they continue navel gazing. Other games come along too, and whilst they may not be "Elite", they have more about them IMO.

I think it is hilarious fun... Others, naturally, will think otherwise.

Isn't it great that we can hold different opinions of what makes fun, fun?
heretic!

The strange thing is, if you asked ten E: D commanders for their wishlist or vision of what the game ought to be, you'll probably get at least 25 different answers, but I can't imagine how any of them ever said "We need a shallow FPS in E: D".
It's definitely the 25 different answers problem for the game, I think. And if we were in a world where hundreds of groups were making different Elite-like games that could be solved more happily.

I was amused last week to see someone post - entirely independently - one of the ideas from the original DDF which never actually made it into the live game into the Suggestions forum ... and get a pretty unanimous "why would anyone want that?!" in return.

Mind you, I know at least a couple of people who think the point the Elite franchise got too far from its roots was with the FE2 release, which they considered to be basically a completely different game just sharing a few models and names.

Perhaps Galnet had the right idea - "It's about camels in space"

Of course other games come along, nobody is forced to play ED, or any other game, thankfully...

The strangest thing I find, is that people who admittedly have not played the expansion (there are a few posting their observations of the DLC who have only ever watched youtubers!) or just walked away from the game to play other stuff, continue to participate in discussion, strange. But not unexpected.

Hmm. I was in the kickstart too .. but I thought - if anything - people think there isn't ENOUGH being done with elite-feet so far in comparison to what they imagined back then. Even Drew, from what I know.

When DBOBE spoke about big game hunting for rare rhino big toenails (the only valuable part of the beast apparently and a senseless waste as a result) can't say I ever imagined big game hunting .. from a ship??

Yet, here you are in the thread "Drew Wagar's Thoughts", not discussing Drew Wagar's thoughts.
Strange.
But not unexpected.
That's fine though. I'm ok with that ! ! !

Well, admittedly it's even stranger to awkwardly claim ownership over a game and the direction the developers are taking it in. Or how being "emotionally invested" somehow makes your opinion superior to others.

The long tradition of reading people's comments with internal bias & getting it wrong, seems to be still going strong though.

I do laugh because the forum for years asked for feet and when it came all you could hear was NO NOT THIS!!

Where did either of this happen though? Drew was very (almost comically) explicit stating it was just his opinion, just speaking for himself, and that he has zero impact on anything, least the direction of the game and didn't take issue with that either... and since I brought up the 'emotionally invested' point earlier I feel obliged to address your second remark also - I can't see how either mine or anyone else's emotional investment makes them feel their opinion weighs more than those of others.

Maybe I missed something here?

It wasn't Drew, it wasn't you, but like the mod said, we should move on.
