"Distress call" is one of those random generated "unknown signal source", containing various ships asking for help ( i tried some threat 0 ones, ranging from asking for fuel or help salvaging something etc.). Higher threat always imply require fighting then.Sorry, what is this?
Thanks.

I reacted because it is a good question. One could say, that I like the fact that you are asking questions. Elite Dangerous has a steep learning curve. I've been playing for over a year and I still learn new stuff I didn't know before...Reactions by: Tyres O'Flaherty and nemolomen :
Sorry Tyres and nemolommen, but what are you agreeing to: "My question: "What is this?" ?"
If so, does that mean you don't understand either?![]()

Thanks, but:
1. How do you hear them?
and
2. Do you "pick them up in Solo Mode as well as Open?"
It wasn't me! Honest guv!Reactions by: Tyres O'Flaherty and nemolomen :

While there have been times I wished I had night vision on my suits, I find I can get by without it, usually. And another thing...
Why are so many of my mission objectives on the dark side of the planet? I mean, it's almost as if some divine being knows I have no night vision mod on my Mav suit.
Oh, I do too normally - once I've struggled with such things such as "which way is the bloody settlement from the landing pad?". I then run around like bat with it's eyes poked out until I come across some indication of a crate or something. While there have been times I wished I had night vision on my suits, I find I can get by without it, usually.

I'm sure there must be something that says "civilisation is always north of the landing pad". Or something.![]()
Funny. Back around Update 6, their lights were completely off for a couple of days. One could say it made things VERY interesting.Actually, as much as I dislike scavs - after all, it takes one to know one hehe - in the dark, if you're at a settlement, you can at least see their torches which helps.

Yeah, you can't land too close anymore. Went to a settlement a few weeks ago and when I got out of the ship, it was already being shot at...Maybe you could try what I used to do before I had NV.
Switch on the ship lights and land it facing the settlement. I sometimes land it real close just so I could have decent lighting.
I dont know how the latest update lets the AI react to it for hostile settlements, back then it was usually no issue.

When, approximately, was that?BTW, I am not sure if it is RANDOM or it was a bug, but there was this 'Kill 17 Scavs' mission I had to do where I think most of them did not have their torches on. I ran around and around and around and around waiting for the arrows to appear on the mini radar to find all 17. Didnt have an SRV with me that time.
Anyone encountered this 'feature' before?
Don't have Odyssey yet (as VR player, there's been little pooint so far), but ISTR that ship weapons with a blast radius (i.e. dumbfire missiles) were a thing for that. Is that still the case, or did FD balance that? From my testing, as of the last update, scavs on site will see you and aggro your ship from quite a ways out, especially if you approach from high above.
However, they will not actually run much past 300m from the settlement. I land my ship 400m or more from the base, and it never gets attacked. I can also retreat there to resupply if necessary, and they won't follow me that far.
If you find that the scavs are already alerted when you arrive, you can just sit in your ship for a while and they'll settle down. Or you can run around the edges and pick them off, which is what I usually do.
