Ahhh I love this game sometimes. Back to the fleet carriers we go -____-

Depends what you class as "expensive". I paid 3.5mil cr for 16T of Osmium from a fleet carrier. I'd much rather pay that tiny amount of money than wait four weeks for powerplay cycles

Credits are easy to come by.
Osmium needs mining iirc. And one engineer requires a one time 10 units of Osmium

These ones requires 16t for each module while discounted. I would assume the price will raise up to 26-27t without discount. For each single item
And the materials, while g1 and g2, are not few either.

Wow. I'd read the reports of fragments getting stuck, but this is the first time I've done any laser mining since. It's horrific!

I thought it was just me, burning through collector limpets like there's no tomorrow! Something is definitely wrong indeed. The only rocks I can safely mine are the ones that don't move

So conclusion so far from adding these engineered mining beams as extras mining beams...
Mapped laser mining
Adding these lasers can Go past your collection rate of limpets so unless you lower cargo space to adds another limpets collector these are no use...
If you were not running an efficient build already, they can max out the collectors resulting in faster time per hour... but only because the build had inactive collectors...

Res site combat RNG mining
Depends on if you were carrying too much combat firepower to start with... and you could add these class 1 to move firepower over to mining...
You could also boost and run away, then you can carry more class 1 mining lasers to increase collector pick up rate and leave combat weapons behind... If you fit 2 or more, you can use them instead of Prospector limits to detect the rock type. Then fire prospectors only at point-blank range…

Non combat RNG mining... This is where they shine...
Deep space RNG mining in big large ships and RNG Hot spot mining... Using a medium ship lowers collection rate when laser mining now, as less hard points will result in lower speed collections...
Prospectors are slow... Light is faster... Equip 2 class 1 eng beam lasers or more and use them as mining tools and as nearly instant chunk removal from rocks, this is way faster than waiting for the prospector limpet to hit random rocks to find out what class the rock is..
Disadvantage is it is going to be a new mining system to some players... Going to take time to relearn this new system..
But Completely RNG mining is increased in collection rate due to not needing prospector flight time from longer ranges instead they are only fired from point-blank as you hit the rock at the max speed you dare with the shield stopping the ship this is done to get the multiplier all propectors apply to rock content...
All the other options that you use to decrease time to next rock are still used that does not change with these, just that they're way faster than prospector showing if the rocks a dud for laser mining...

They won't make a bad RNG run good as the RNG will still create a low yield, but the bad yield won't be as low as it was as you will speed up...
The mining analyser average system is not built for the scrape mining system it only uses the prospector data and as you only prospect good rocks the averages spike falsely high...

Each fragment you scrape off without first attaching a prospector means you lost out on several more fragments (A-rated increases yield by 3.5x). So you will need to mine more rocks to fill up.

The other disadvantage that I mentioned before is that smalls are slower at producing fragments than mediums. Slowing you down even further.

Extra lasers not less... you have the same 4/5 mediums + all the small you can fit on the large ships remaining hard points...
with cutter its 4 mediums with 2/3 small..
with corvettes it 5 mediums + 2 small..
With anacondas it 5 mediums + 2 small..
Theres no reduction on big ships...

Sorry if this has been clarified already (I've read the thread, it's touched on but I'mstill unsure) but are the mats costs to buy the laser from tech brokers currently discounted? I.e. do I need to grab some before Thursday or pay a higher mats price if I wait? Hope not in a way as the current mats requirements are pretty steep. Luckily I've still got some osmium lying around in the FC from my one and only Colonia trip.

Nothing in tech broker is discounted...
the 3 items are full price..
Engineered DSS required to probe rings..
Engineered Mining laser
Engineered FSD for python/krait mining ship jump range... ( Realy need this as their range sucks with full cargo )
All full price in mats...

Ok for those who are looking for some:
LTT 198 - Zetian's Recall

A laser costs:
20 Arsenic
24 Rhenium
28 Phosporus
16 Osmium
