Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

It depends on scenario. If I'm picking flowers I will so I can recall it without having to backtrack.
Haha, this is so funny. This is when I don't dismiss it, because I target my ship as a way to tell how far I've gone (for exobiology, distance matters).

Lately, though, I've been using MattG's cool plugin that pops up a message when I've gone far enough away from the last sample -- that's a nice feature.

Do you CMDRs dismiss ships after deploying SRV?

In the current patch there is no on-foot warning message for "Ship under attack" - hopefully it will get fixed in U9
So if there is any chance of a danger, i'd strongly recommend to dismiss the ship.

Even when not landed at a settlement but simply in a POI is better to dismiss it if you have any bounties.
I had System authorities dropping in my POI and they did scan my landed ship, since i was clean there were no further issues, but if i had a bounty...

The universal one, if I heard correctly, can be a size 7. That might prove useful in my miner but I wonder how much less efficient it will be compared to the singles. I have feeling that, while these mutli function controllers may be useful, it may be outweighed by their comparative performance.

We shall see!
There's a discussion (including class overview) over in DD: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/multi-function-universal-limpet-controllers.594605/ . For my explorer Dolphin, they're pretty much useless as I can't sacrifice the size 3 slot. For the my explorer Krait Mk.II, though, the "Rescue" version could add the Fuel Transfer limpet an little extra cost.

Back from my exploration journey, I decided to see if anybody needed help with unwanted scavengers. Maybe things changed while I was gone and the world had become peaceful, like out in the black.

Of course not!

The place is swarming with scavengers, causing problems, leaving trash and dead bodies everywhere, ignoring actually taking anything and just wandering around unpowered bases for no apparent reason!

This cannot continue! They must be cleared out!

And I'm the man for the job!

Or, at least, one of the men.

A minor one.

But I have a shotgun, so...I'm in!

20 vs 1. It went well. For me. :p

I just picked up my first shotgun two days ago (G3 but no eng IIRC), can't wait to try it out...

It's my favorite of the hand weapons -- two shots center of mass, point blank, takes out most anything. Three shots for some of the tougher ones (or if you miss once!).

It's risky because you have to get close up, but as long as you don't get surrounded and hide behind cover when you can, it's very effective.

It does have surprisingly long range if you aim down the sights (which tightens the group). There are times I use it that way, but mostly I just run up and shoot from the hip :)

Mine is G5 now, with extra mag capacity, stowed reloading, and audio masking. I still haven't decided on the last mod. It really doesn't seem to need anything else.

How is the damage at range? Less I would assume...

My MO up to this point has been to use Exec/L6 (occasionally SRV) from a distance since I'm terrible in FPS in general.

I don't grind engineering just pick things up as I go. Someday I'll have enough mats to do something with.

I didn't grind, per se, but I did target certain mats to get from mission rewards if I could. I really enjoy the missions so it was no problem for me. I have done quite a lot of missions, though :)

Yes, it spreads out significantly after a bit. Aiming tightens the spread quite a bit, though, making longer distance shots more effective. Still, across a large room is about the limit. Definitely the closer you are, the better :)

I could upload a vid from today's mission, if you'd like to see it in action. There was one kill I kinda want to upload anyway, because it was so funny. Maybe I'll just upload that, hehe.

I recently started taking missions for mats when I find them. Especially if they're in the same/current system. Really depends on what I'm in the mood for though. I like to do a little of everything and that way i don't get bored with doing the same thing all the time.

I've seen it used in other vids, but all from close up, which I'm averse to as I usually die quickly...

I died a lot. A whole lot, at the beginning. Not so much now. It's mostly about learning how the NPCs act, and how to avoid being out in the open with several of them after you. And if your shield goes down, you gotta run for cover ASAP, jumping and weaving as you go, until it comes back up!

I'm generally very bad at FPS games, but this seems more like an RPG type of combat. Anyway, I'm doing ok at it now.

I've gotten better, but I don't think very fast on my feet, or anywhere else for that matter. My BIL OTOH gets into CZ and he's all flying around like a flea on dog washing day, killing NPCs like no tomorrow...
