Development has really sped up, its all coming together 3-5 years from release.... 3 years ago.

Guy put a remindme on it, parent poster now deleted their account. I wonder what they now think.

I just thought the vid was well made and funny ¯\(ツ)/¯

But you come up with whatever consensus you like buddy ;)

(Personally I think F4 exploits are a weak point in both games, and nobody seems to have a decent solution right now.)
About combat logging. The goal is to have the ship remain present in the server a long time after you Atl F4 or log off in bed outside of hangar. No vanishing ship while boarding.

Don't know their plan for the avatar but for me, if the ship stay on the server, the avatar should also stay.

Nice. Then the solution is always self-destruct. Sorry for those who want to do legit piracy, but the the bad eggs will make sure you never want to chance it.
Self-destruct will cost more and more in the future as the stability/permanence increase in the server.
For long, autodestruct costed almost nothing because CIG was not able to provide enough stability to put a cost on it. Too much bugs destroying your ship, they couldn't put the real price on material looses.
When the server's stability will be sufficient, with medical gameplay penalities + cost of loosing armor + ship + equipment + cargo + missiles they have all the tools to not make you want to self destruct.

Maybe it will, maybe it won't. It hasn't happened yet so we don't know how it will be.

But one thing that is irreplaceable is time, that is the most valuable asset every player has, and for some, a self-destruct or combat long might be preferable to sitting around waiting to get shot or possibly held hostage or whatever they think up. I mean, if they have you and your ship, you're not going anywhere. Its ripe for griefing.

It's just gonna drive players away.

Yeah, if the penalties are too harsh people will get annoyed.

Its one reason why i don't like the whole DoaS business. I get attached to my avatars, i don't want to have to start a new one (even if i get to keep all my assets) just because of death in a computer game. I guess i can recreate the new one exactly the same as the old one, but then why not just let me keep the old avatar?
