Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Btw what prevents you to be dishonest in SC, say give me money or I blow you up, you get the money, and then blow victim up?

The theory is there is meant to be a reputation system and with a bad boy rep you'll find doing some things harder/impossible because nobody will trust you. On the other hand, CIG have promised bad boy gameplay, and anyway, the gankers won't give two figs about having a bad rep and will wear it as a badge of honour.

Follow up to my earlier screenshot.

I like what they have done with the place, and while this is NOT exactly what Pyro will look like, they have said this themselves, the Dying Star AC Map is Pyro, or a small part of it.
So i do see it as a bit of teaser, i think the overall look of it is close if not exactly like Pyro, i think Pyro real will be like this but more refined.

So, i have two criticisms of the new Dying Star map, #1 the lighting is over saturated, #2 the volumetric stuff is over the top, its too thick, in the clouds you can't see more than a few KM infront of you, at best.

Other than that, it looks great.

I dunno.

As a dog fighting arena, not liking all those little tiny asteroids.

That was in free fly mode, dog fighting might be in a different location, i might have a look at that mode later, seems a bit odd to me to be dogfighting around that huge station with all that thick soup around.

They have been identical between free fly and battle royal, cant see them making different versions.

Flying around big stuff is fine. Dodge behind a big asteroid etc to avoid fire or whatever.

The little tiny ones just going to run into. Too much other stuff going on to pay attention to things that small.

When you are attacked by real pirates, if you comply you have chance to loose far less than what you loose with a self destruct. Watch the video in my last post.
If the pirate ask you 20% of the value of your cargo and let you go when you pay, it's better than loosing all cargo+ship+equipment+hassle of respawn at hospital.
Problem is that in every MMO I’ve ever played, starting with Ultimate Online, which had “freestyle” PvP, “legitimate pirates” have always been outnumbered by “psychopaths” by about 50 to 1. Unless you’re the type of player who’d try to kill them in return, it’s best to assume you’ll be killed either way.

So far, there’s only been one MMO where there were enough “legitimate” pirates to make complying with them much more likely to be a fun experience, and I doubt CIG has the courage to use their rather unique solution to this age old problem.

I cannot not LOL at the notion of "legitimate pirates". Like, if a person decides that the source of fun for them is going to be taking it away from others, it already says all about that person.

When you've done cargo mission hundreds of time in ED, you are not going back and forth ? How exciting is it ?
Psst… here’s the funny things about games. People play games they enjoy, even when it may be repetitious or boring to others.

Let me compare and contrast two games I enjoy: Empyrion Galactic Survival and Space Engineers. In EGS, space travel is fast, requires hands on piloting, as well as situational awareness. In SE, space travel is slow, consists of doing nothing but traveling in straight lines, and is better done while reading or watching TV.

I very much enjoy EGS’s space travel, but don’t enjoy SE’s. In fact, in SE, I’ve always preferred to operate on planets, even though it’s much more efficient to operate in space, because SE’s surface vehicles are well modeled, and thus enjoyable to operate.

Games are pretty much “excuse plots” to repeatedly do ultimately pointless things that you find enjoyable. Just because you take pleasure in a particular activity, doesn’t mean everyone does. When it comes to ship interiors, I’d rather skip them whenever they’re not relevant to my gameplay. If “piracy” is frequent enough that interiors are actually relevant, then the chances are good that it’s too frequent enjoy said “piracy” in the first place, due to getting my gameplay frequently getting interrupted.

“Piracy” is a bit like spiced food. Some people prefer their food bland. Others prefer to build bonfires in their mouths. Some like to push their limits quite frequently, while others might try it occasionally and then once again swear “never again.” And then there’s the jerks that think it’s funny to unscrew the lid of the spice shakers, so that the next person will have their meals ruined. The trick to a successful “restaurant” is to offer a diverse menu that caters to a wide number of people, and keep the jerks out of the kitchen.

Top voted comment on the roadmap round up, also look at the reaction emotes to the OP, the sentiment has shifted to dismay or frustration with CIG, which is a very good thing.

Same for SC. The game in 2021 have also a wide variety of gameplay loops you can mix and match.

Ah, yes. Well, i know where that particular conversation leads to when discussing things with a SC backer.

You end up with lists like this:

Walking around stations
Walking around ships
Walking around caves
Walking around planets
etc.

I've never been able to have a reasonable discussion with a SC backer when comparing gameplay loops, it just tends to get silly. So i'll just nod and smile at your post.

As always, wait and see what something ends up looking like in game. Pyro might not arrive for another year or more yet.
