Using head-tracking for aiming is definitely a lot more painful than people think it is. None of the currently available solutions are nearly accurate enough for that, including the OR. (Unless you include the current iteration of SC's autoaim.) Actually, the view lock that is now in AC would help in that regard, but then why bother with head-tracking in the first place? Besides, head-tracking should really be used for situational awareness. Restricting it to aim takes a lot away from a game.
Also, modern fighters do not use head-tracking for aiming. Modern fighters have nothing to aim. You don't "aim" missiles, while the guns are last-resort weapons, and accurately targeting them at combat speeds/distances requires a lot more precision than head-tracking can deliver. In fact, I don't think a single kill made by US jets has been made with the guns since Vietnam. (But I could be wrong, for those rare edge cases.)
What your probably thinking of is the helmets being developed for the F-35. These are not for aiming, but rather for the exact same thing you would use head-tracking in SC for: situational awareness. It has a bonus capability of being able to lock targets based on pilot input, but for the most part it's just there so pilots aren't limited to using the HUD that's only in a forward-facing location.
So bringing that to SC, if we wanted to go the whole "SC's combat is based more on realism" route, then every combat-capable ship would ditch guns/lasers in favor of as many missiles as you could stack on the thing. (Except maybe larger ships that can fire large, aoe rounds.)
Also, Mr. Nowak, if CR was wealthy prior to SC, and wanted a fancy car, wouldn't he already own it? Company money shouldn't be used for personal purchases, and if some employees are being paid enough that they can purchase fancy cars, then perhaps the budgeting on this 250+ person studio is just slightly out of whack.
And forgive me for bringing this up mods, but I am rather curious about the rumors of CR having a cocaine habit. It's been brought up repeatedly for a good number of years now, and I recall some folks posting a picture of CR with a bong in this thread previously. (I had assumed it was shopped, but now I wonder.) Does anyone know what's up with this? (Again, mods, I apologize for bringing it up, and if you prefer that it not be discussed, I'll understand if this last paragraph disappears.)
