Still tootling around on... <checks>... Waraswarre A 1. Not because it doesn't have any materials, but because it does. It's not the abundant richness of Kappa-1 something something, but with a little time taken to understand the landscape, it still has a lot to offer.
As tempting as it is to stick to the open plains where you can floor the accelerator; that's not where the resources are. Everything, everything in Odyssey is about the geological activity. Hunting meteorites is a mug's game, what you want is the rough terrain with the steam vents and/or lava, because that is where the minerals are. Find yourself one of these, and it's like a Horizons PoI. (Body dependent. Some are better than others. Which is bodies in general, I guess.)
It's taken a while to get used to Odyssey's way of surface prospecting - not least because there don't seem to be any guides - but if I have one overriding thought, it is "trust the world gen". Do you have at least 2x geology on this body? If not, leave, go somewhere else. If there is 2+ geology here; look for it. Are you on top of geology
right now? If so, you can probably already see radar pings; if not, drive until you find some. When you run out of pings, continue in a known direction; I like going towards the local star because it's a clear marker point. You will absolutely encounter
something, it's just a matter of what and when.
I do like that with Odyssey, there's really no particular need to relog and reset instances. You're probably not finding big enough clusters to make it worthwhile trying (sometimes you might though!), and there's usually another cluster just a couple of clicks in any direction.
So far on this expedition I've gone from nearly empty to nearly full on several T1, T2 and T3 materials, while having backed up a solid reserve of tungsten and ruthenium. I am pretty confident that with some trading around, this will last me for quite a while. And I am definitely sure I won't get stuck for limpets again like when I ran out of iron a few days ago
Also, this was in no way related to how much beer was consumed during this long, long road trip.
Honestly, I don't know what happened. There's not even a rock! I blame a steering malfunction
At least my ship found a good landing spot this time. Some places it gets really stuck and tries to set down on the other side of a canyon and I have to drive way, way away to make it choose the obvious flat plains behind me. I do think smaller ships are probably better for this task. I imagine a courier or dbx would always drop on top of you, unless you're trying to give it problems.
