What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

I'm meant to be building habitats for my grizzlies and snow leopards but I got distracted. It's just pixels. Why is it so darn cute?

Finally started the Construction of the Entrance Area in my New Zealand Zoo. There is a still empty Enclosure for Kiwis and a Exhibit that will (hopefully) be the Home of Tuataras someday (but Giant Wetas would also be ok🦗). The Kangaroos also already got their new Enclosure already which looks really nice. Might show some Pictures but not yet🦘

Continued my New Zealand Zoo before going to Work. I've made a Exhibition with Eggs of native Birds. I've Put Eggs of Paradise Shellducks, New Zealand Falcons, Keas and Kiwis in there. I also wanted to exhibit a Takahe Egg but unlike the Eggs in the Game, those are spotted so I couldn't do it. We definitely need smaller editable Signs for Exhibitions like that.
Sadly my favorite Kangaroo died but of course I've added a Memorial for him and it made me happy when a Guest mentioned how they've seen him when they were younger. I've also gotten a new male and 2 new female Kangaroos were born and multiple others will also be born soon. Just hope the first female Kangaroo that was ever born in one of my Zoos will also get pregnant before it is too late. It would be so nice if her Baby would have the white Coloration of its Grandfather.
Not really happy with the Kiwi Enclosure yet. Maybe I can come up with a better Design while I'm working 🤔

I played a lot lately, just didn't share my progress. For februrary I'm changing up my morning routine and play an hour before work, instead of writing. I'm looking forward to this and hope, at least two of three zoos will be dlc ready when time comes.

Jeez, you must be disciplined! I don't know if I were able to make myself work after playing in the morning! (Or to write so early. Only thing I'm capable of is drinking coffee and reading.)

I couldn't agree more! Especially now with my new computer, it has reached a whole new level and I spend so much more time just watching the animals. The red pandas are among my favourites, too. But I must also repeat that the cuteness of the fennec foxes is almost unbearable

After finishing my alligator habitat (forgot to tace a picture) last week, I made a little forest for the fallow deer. I'm really happy they are walkthrough now! Besides that, I spent my evening with animal management and breeding. The zoo is really going well right now. Next is either a food court and possibly badgers or ibex next to it, or aardvarks on the other side of the zoo.

"Well, I wonder which animals they keep in here."

XD I want that in my newest Zoo ,,I wonder which Animals they keep in here" while a giant male Kangaroo is starring menacingly from behind a Bush. Already happened for a short Moment that a Guest was inside the Enclosure which is especially weird because Part of the Enclosure Barrier is made of the Path Barrier so absolutely nothing should be overlapping there

The new part of the zoo is more themed and you can find more animals form India and South East Asia, but first you can get some food and drinks and enjoy a couple of exhibits.

Then you can admire the slowmotion jumpers, also known as clouded leopards. The habitat can be seen from both sides and I just imagine that there's a roof on top. Building it with the current mesh pieces is complicated and not fun, so I just pretend it is there.

I'm freelancing, so for me not working equals not earning money :D That's probably one of the reasons I am disciplined with work. And doing something creative before work (even though my work is kind of creative as well) really helps my mood. But I can assure you I lack in discipline in a lot of things. For example, I always only write the frst draft of a book but can not manage to sit down and edit so it is publishable. Still have to work on that.

As for what I'm doing in PZ today: I spontaously decided to end the Kingdom in Unity for now and let the path transfare into the wilderness after only three habitats. After buiding so many palace buildings in Golding before, I guess I kinda grow tired of it. :D Now I am working of overcomming to doom myself for using shelter blue prints, believe it or not. I mean, they are there for a reason, why are us creative people always so hard on ourself when using something that someone else made?

This morning I continued my work in my newest Franchise, The Wetlands. Working more with null barriers and a more creative use of actual barriers, though I'm still a beginner in all that, it's all just things already made. It's going to be a mostly tropical/aquatic zoo, with a few other animals thrown in. Right now we have Giant Otters, Meerkats, Komodo Dragons, Galapagos Tortoises, Alligators and Giant Anteaters. And a pre-designated walk around Capybara habitat that will be surrounded by other habitats that are not walk around. (Please bring us the Capybara soon FD! I have no less than 4 preplanned habitats already set out for them in Franchises lol)

Also, please forgive the undecorated staff buildings, I'll get to that eventually! Finally, noting the ship steering wheel on the shop shells is not mine, but from the workshop and I'm very appreciative of it!

Also, I haven't yet shared my progress on my Sydney Zoo, but it's....grown. More to come on that but here's an overshot of it.

I don't have pics, but I've been continuing on a South America section of my New Orleans-inspired (though I've become pretty divorced from source material) and moping about the lack of latin american animals. Also built a small nocturnal house, but it (predictably) only really works at night, and has only implied habitats and a few exhibits right now.

Oh look! I started a new zoo...again...I just kinda felt like building in the desert for a change so here we go 😅

Not much to see so far but I like the little bus stop I build, which is something I guess.

That's beautiful! I have to ask, since all your photos are super detailed and realistic looking, are you using ultra settings or it is something through ansel (I think that's the program name). I know my game pretty much dies on ultra settings, so I don't really know how it looks. But if it's like your photos it looks amazing. Hoping with my next computer that I hopefully get some time this year, I can play on ultra.

🙃 Reminds me of myself. Still didn't build even a single Part of the City around my newest German Zoo, then I've started the Construction of a gigantic Bottlenose Dolphin Tank in my Marine Park and started the Renovation of the Crocodile Enclosure there and then a few Days ago I've stopped working on all 3 Projects because I really wanted to start a Zoo in New Zealand (where 50% of the current Enclosures and Exhibits are just implied)

Even though a Glass Roof in a Desert seems to be sadistic, I absolutely love how it looks 👍
I really like that Palm Tree from the Africa Pack and I want 2 of the Species from it in my New Zealand Zoo, so maybe I'll buy that one next. The Palm Tree is also planned to be added in the Giraffe House of my german Zoo.

Today I've really enhanced the Look of the Kiwi Enclosure (still not that happy with the Barrier in the Front. The Glass is doing that weird Thing when the Sun shines on it) by adding more Plants and Rocks. Two of my Wishes also got fullfilled. The Kangaroo that I wanted to become pregnant got pregnant and her Baby is white like my favorite Kangaroo that passed away

Thanks! It's a combination of ultra settings and reshade that makes it look like that. I think I use that programm for pretty much all my games where possible by now, it just makes everything look that much nicer and in PZ case also less blurry. That's actually one of the main reasons why I started using it. You can also adjust the colors and tonemaps and a whole bunch of other stuff, it's pretty cool.

I know right? I can't keep working on one thing and instead end up starting over and over again xD

And I imagine it's reflecting glass (which we sadly don't really have ingame) so it's not acting as a giant magnifying glass lol
I already have some other roof ideas in my head for the actual buildings in the zoo, that aren't just a rain cover, and there's definitely no glass (or very little) involved there 😂

@Nioell Thanks for that insight! Maybe something I can try to whenever I do get a new rig. But really your photos are always just super fantastic and really stand out.

I wasn't happy with the snow leopards' habitat so I rebuilt it and it seems to have paid off. They've had two cubs and the male is having a great time jumping into the pond from the nearby rocks. I've not witnessed this behaviour before and was really impressed with the way the game produced a huge water splash when he landed. Ok, so the movement is clunky because of the squared hitbox but the other details make up for it.

What a cool picture, @sockeyejo !

Well, that's probably the reason why I wouldn't like to be self-employed (and why I might never manage to publish a book either). Getting off-topic, but I know how hard this is - good luck with your projects!

About your last zoo-related point, I've also started to use more blueprints lately. Not so much for shelters, but for buildings and decoration. There are so many beautiful creations, why should we not use them!

What I did today: I was in the mood for a custom billboard and decided to make one for my "BintuXperience", a walkthrough binturong habitat. The actual building dates back to the release of the South East Asia pack and there is a shared outdoor area for binturongs and sun bears. Inside the building, only the binturongs can enter through a little opening in the wall, so that they get close to the guests. Thanks to the hitboxes, the bears don't fit :D Only disadvantage is that I placed the habitat entrance in the indoor part, so whenever a sun bear is dropped by a vet or gets boxed/unboxed, it is stuck inside and THEN the guests will of course run :D But it is no problem to just quickly put them over into the outdoor area manually. I'm still somewhat proud of this habitat. The screen informs the guests about that experience and offers some instructions about how to behave on the path. After placing it down, I found a typo of course!
