Community Event / Creation The Buckyball Racing Club Presents: Back to Pareco (Magic 8-Ball Championship, Race 1)

An update as we go into the weekend. A few major shake ups in the boards yet again!View attachment 292242
I remember back at the beginning of the week wondering if 15 stops in regulation was even possible, and being pretty damn pleased with my 14. Now, even with 15, I'm down in 8th and Sulu is 9th! With Sgurr tantalisingly close to 16 and Shaye already on 20 in Unlimited, it's clear that this race is pushing people to achieve truly extraordinary things. It's absolutely mind blowing stuff!

Hoping I might get a few more runs in over the next couple of days but damn ... I thought I'd hit the limits of my ability about 3 days ago.

Tried 5 runs in the last hour and a half, ended up aborting all of them. Too slow at docking, or smashing into the station. A run that was looking good I was actually tricked into thinking I had requested docking, as the pad number lit up just as I requested but I didn't realised I'd actually then cancelled it and didn't notice the lack of docking request granted message 🤦‍♂️ And then the last run the last 3 stations I went to leave all held me at the landing pad, after undocking, and wouldn't let me move for 3 seconds. So I'm taking that as a sign...

Anybody else had something like this happen?
Not like that no, but many strange things happen in Pareco that I wouldn't even bother trying to work out how or why. I guess that's what you have to expect from a system with at least two Comets in it :D

Isn`t it funny how life kicks you in the teeth and just as you get up goes in with a 4 x 2. I need a very large alcohol

Now I'm worried, did I crash into you and not notice?
Nope! I think you were working on something at at either Neville or Phillips (or could’ve been Webb for all I know) when I was making my runs. I did get distracted while checking out who was that hollow rectangle, though. ;)

First run submitted, 14 stops in The Nomad in 21:10. So not great (I could definitely get at least one more stop just by not missing the slot at Crown every - single - time), but not as bad as I thought I might be in a Asp-X, as this isn't the ideal race for my favourite ship.

The time would have been about 20:35, if I hadn't messed up my boost into the medium pad at Asire for the final landing - shooting straight past the hanger block and having to turn around. Combined with various other mistakes, this makes me hope that I can manage 16 stops if everything goes right, which is all I managed in an unlimited Viper last time we were here.

Great fun was had, I hope to have time for a regulation run and another unlimited attempt tomorrow, but I've got some IRL stuff to sort out, so might not happen.

Thanks for the cockpit letter tip @Alec Turner, there's no way I'd remember where I'm up to without them.
