Community Event / Creation The Buckyball Racing Club Presents: Back to Pareco (Magic 8-Ball Championship, Race 1)

Finally managed to shave a few seconds off my time in the last session before closing! Still 12 stops but now round in 20:55 for the regulation Cobra. I've got better at crashing onto the pad, and boosting out of the mail-slot, and even approaching the right landing pad. Now I just need to string all of that together on the same run... ;)

And I had a quick look to see what next month's race is all about. So you have to destroy your ship at the last base and then drive halfway round the planet; have I got that right?

So here's my fastest run, and if I can find a decent freeware video editor I'll try and put together a crashes and bloopers reel. There's a lot to choose from!

I have to say that the first race in the series has been a resounding success and bags of fun. I did better than I had hoped in unlimited and slightly worse than hoped in regulation, go figure eh.
Have the thank MalForTheWin for an excellent race throughout. Loved It.

Now the race is over I will let everyone know that my issues yesterday came from losing my father in law after a very short illness. Just 26 hours in fact. We knew he was very ill fairly quickly but just did not expect that. The racing this weekend was a wonderful distraction but it did put me off my A game a bit. I would like too thank everyone for their kind words.

Hopefully next race I will be more on form.

Fly hard brothers (and sisters of course)

My very sincere condolences to you and your family.
I lost my mother last weekend and I found the race a great distraction as well.

Don't know what to say. Never know what to say on these things.
My condolences.

So, so sorry to hear that.

Can only offer man hugs, take care

Damn, sorry to hear Draig, my thoughts are fully with you. I have lost mine a month and a half ago, and it's a pain that doesn't relent. But as you said, every little bit of distraction will do, but Elite in general, and the Buckyball and its great community in particular, make for a much needed moment of respite. Hold tight and carry on, this too shall pass. o7

My condolences to both of you.

Thank you AkenBosch and my condolences to you too

Condolences from me too to @Draig Seren and @Fish172 and @AkenBosch and everyone who's lost someone dear to them - there are no words, but I hope that Buckyball gives you some (no doubt) much needed distraction in what must be incredibly difficult times. Our thoughts are with you. ❤️

And thanks to @MalForTheWin and to everyone else who took part for making the first race in the Magic 8 Ball championship such a rip roaring success!

When I came up with the idea of the 8 ball championship it felt like something of a last ditch attempt to keep our niche little corner of the game alive. I was genuinely humbled by the response to that initial call for support (with all 8 race hosting slots filled in a matter of days).

And so it is that, although this is the end of the first race, it is only very much the beginning of a championship that will see us through to September. We have a really fantastic and diverse series of races coming up, kicking off next month with The Aquarian Job which is one of my personal all-time faourites. Here's a little taster (from the first time we ran this race) of what's in store:

For now tho' we just need to sit tight and wait for the final "Back to Pareco" scores - and I appreciate if that takes Mal a little bit of time - checking and collating all the times is no mean feet so we just need to be patient. Once the final scores are posted I'll give it a day just to make sure everything's correct and final and then I'll post the first championship leaderboard update (a reminder that 1st place will get 10 points, 2nd gets 9 points, and so on down to 9th place which gets 2 points with everyone else who took part just 1 point ... with separate championship leaderboards for both Regulation and Unlimited class).

o7 and fly fast commanders!

Condolences, best wishes and a big hug are a part of what I can offer you from so far away. But what we all can offer is comradery, support and distraction. This community helped me through some very dark times, and it's very nice to see that even 5 years on from that we can all carry on pulling for each other and helping out. The fact that it's often done without anyone realising they're specifically helping, makes it even more special I think.

Fly Fast o7

So much this! Thank you to both, Alec for, well, just being Alec and single-handedly carry the BRC forward and blasting its loud advertising horn through every channel possible, and @MalForTheWin for making this first outing a resounding success. Just look at that Regulation scoreboard!

What I did was put (in huge 72 point writing) the list of stations in order, and put it on my 2nd monitor... also I used the nav panel filter so the only thing showing was stations.
I did the same as I do with landing pads. Wrote them down on a piece of paper, on one line. And then looked at it before, during, and after I had selected the next station :D

It's great to see so many names on a Regulation board.

Am I the only one who mentally chanted "Crown Asire Webb, Phillips Neville Garden, Crown Asire Webb, Phillips Neville Garden, Crown Asire...." for a couple minutes, and then just went with it? My techniques are slacking, I'm not the meticulous racer I once was...

If it helps, I managed to figure out Openshot after watching a 15 minute tutorial. It didn't work very well, but I was able to use that to figure out Shotcut, which works fine. Hardware decode seems to work too.
I will also be putting together a crash montage to embarrass myself.

Thanks for organizing this.

I didn't want to end up as mad as Alec, so I decided that chanting was probably not a good idea 😅
