Perhaps I'm too naive, here, but I think that at some point these little creases will be ironed out.
After the initial bemusement for these little inconsistencies, I let them go (ofc, different level of personal tolerance involved here), not because they're fine, but because it's a disservice I do to myself over an aspect I have no control upon, while there's so much I'm enjoying.

I see them as little niggles: not ideal, but inconsequential in my broader picture.
And they might be amended at some point, perhaps sneakily, when (if?) the major firefighting ceases.
It's not like I'm getting into a state of uncontrollable rage when I hear the 'magnetic boots' line, or walked past the 26 day sign in the past. Or the pizza box. I do roll my eyes though because avoiding these would be such easy wins, and they're still in the game after 10 patches, and with FDev's track record of leaving broken or poorly designed things in the game... well.

So I guess it's less about "why is a bug in the game" because that's easy to answer, but more the question of "why did they think it a good idea to place a single pizza box, in exactly the same noticeable spot, without any hint of variety, and into a zero grav environment?", and I think that highlights a much more substantial problem than little oversights here or there, that was a deliberate design choice.

Even the 'normal' space environment is affected in terms of immersion breaking stuff (i.e. things that worked fine in the past, though those are normally bugs) - I've seen some pictures of solar eclipses planetside where the star shines through the planet, or asteroid rings become partially invisible. In isolation maybe not a big deal, but these really do add up to the extent that FDev could probably be able to spend the entire year on fixing these little issues without bringing the game as a whole forward in any shape or form. And this week's update/patch will no doubt add new issues to that long list, as per FDev tradition.

As for firefighting, I'd say they've exited that mode around Christmas time and have since resumed to BAU.

Sigh, update 11 is (if things go as planned) coming tomorrow. I really wonder why some people must still found something "old" to complain about instead give it little break now and tomorrow complain about new content?
It is like any other game activity, if you don’t keep in practice your skill level drops.

It's caused by the futile hope that the next patch will finally address at least some of the long standing issues (plenty to choose from, and different people feel strongly about different things), knowing full well in the back of their minds that not only will it not fix those, but add new issues to the list, which have a rough 50/50 chance of not being addressed for another several weeks or even months.

But all is not lost dear Martind - each time that happens, those evil naysayers and doomsdayers who only come here to hate on the game and absolutely not because they still love it become less and less vocal due to the inevitable attrition this disapointment causes, leaving the eternal optimists in peace and to themselves, because constructive criticism (which, when repeatedly ignored, eventually turns to snark unfortunately) is clearly overrated.

It's a slow and perhaps not very noticeable process, but patience, young padawan.

You have a clear idea of what you are looking to get out of the game, but I think you are confusing a desire for verisimilitude with a desire for realism.
...... I learned a new word today! Anyone else here had to look up 'verisimilitude' ....? Cheers Riverside. (Genuine comment )

Update 11 - honestly not a big draw for me personally and I only hope nothing gets broken with up11 release being my realistic reaction.

As for the 26 Day count or the pizza boxes and other similar aspects, I just choose to smile at it (if even) and move on.
My reaction to these last pages of this thread is, as we surely do, to acknowledge Voltaire's 'Perfect is the enemy of the good' observation.
With all it's imperfections, we continue to have a space-sim experience that works really well.

I hope we can scavenge for pizza slices in the empty boxes. But will the pizza be magnetic?

Ha! .... would you really ?

Yes, I also think the gravity inconsistencies are due to gameplay, maybe it really ought to be retconned and anti gravity added, but then again it really is only a game. Still walking on 0.03g planets seems unrealistic, I also see no mini thrusters on the suits pushing us down, and the same goes for drinks, plants, litter, hair, etc.. But on the other hand they've managed to solve unconsented commander PvP combat in the stations, and also thank god no bunny jumping commanders in the concourses! :)

Hard to make a game that is 100% realistic, and maybe it would suck if it got too realistic.

Personally not a big deal as I do understand some of the reasons and do enjoy EDO.

As someone who plays in a chair festooned with HOTAS, button boxes, 2 tablets running GG and Icarus Terminal, a mouse one one side and a mini keyboard on the other I admit to being into my immershun. The pizza boxes and rubbish and the 26 day rotation were/are a minor annoyance more for the laziness of their inclusion than anything else. I remember in the early days of Odyssey mis-jumping onto a power building in a settlement and the wall texture was reused from a lift with the weight and number of occupants in clear sight, haven't seen it since but you know...WTH and while I'd like to see stuff like this removed/reworked ( lets have a variety of lore based graffiti and scuff marks on the walls instead) there are far more important issues that should be solved first.

For me, it's not a big deal either. It's not the (non-existent) physical implementation, it's this silly and completely superfluous "warning" that goes against the grain for me. I don't mind that the game is not a simulation, but I hate it when it pretends to be one. But with such a tolerant clientele, I'm surprised Elite hasn't drifted into NMS waters long ago.
It's interests me that NMS is now the often referenced especially after it's turbulent beginnings. It's on the up apparently (I don't play, not my bag) by all accounts offers a lot of fun. I hope ED never drift in that direction. The ED experience already stands alone and has oodles of potential.
ED has been the pack leader ,though, since EDO, it's lost it's lustre with many. Yet it remains our last best hope for a sim-esque space experience (albeit with plently of 'license' thrown in for gameplay mechanics reasons). There is another big headline title of course but that's in a reality of it's own LOL

Provided a game supplies play that I enjoy, the 'inconsistencies' are easily ignored... (These days I notice the difference in rubbish quantity, it is quite fun! But ignore the fact that 'no gravity' doesn't have it floating all over the shop, and that I can run in magnetic boots.) the crazy thing is that I can be playing and 'lose' several hours of my life completely 'immersed' in this 'inconsistent' game and my versimilitude is totally unaffected.

Perhaps as I have said before, and will no doubt say many times again, I play to enjoy myself, it works for me. (So picking holes in the obviously awry things doesn't interest me in the least)

Being a bit of an 'old git' gamer - I've never bothered about 'inconsistencies within the game', 'immersion' etc. AFAIC, the game is whatever it provides.
It's not there as something to be analysed, it's a game, take it for what it is, and you may find you enjoy it more, rather than the spreadsheet mentality, looking for little inconsistencies here and there.

Anyway - I'm off to enjoy the game (apologies to who ever that offends) - think I may doing it whilst wearing a pumpkin head helmet, and snowman body :) (If only you could get those in game too !

I keep on wanting to pick up papers, step on pizza boxes to see if they crunch (even just kick them out of the way), etc.. :)

Personally I'd think retconning anti gravity might go a long way to explain the behaviour. After all they apparently managed to invent a new hyperdrive and refit it in most (all) ships in about 10 years time. Walking on a low G surface might also be explained by anti gravity as we could conceivably all house a unit in our backpacks and no one knows how anti gravity would really work. They could save the magnetic boots for an eventual future 0G environment.

But if you read the ED novellas, the magnetic boots seem deeply anchored in the lore..

In fact I read Reclamation just the other day, and magnetic boots featured prominently. BTW, if you like space opera and you'd enjoy reading a scifi book which is firmly anchored in our beloved game, Reclamation is a fun read!

why do you actually play this game then, from all space games i know Elite has the most scientifc believable physics for me. one can always complain that a game does not meet his expectations but then he should consequently stop playing it rather than complaining all time.
i´am very happy with this game and still hope that frontier has used the long patch11 development time to release a relative flawless patch.
I play Elite because I enjoy the flight model (though even that has gotten worse in EDO vs EDH), and the reasonably coherent Stellar Forge.

I don't really want/need 100% accurate physics - I could get that in KSP from what I gather - same goes for realism; I can enjoy NMS as a game no-problem despite it's particular style and arcadey controls and lack of physics. It's an immersive and fun game in its own right, because it's internally consistent and doesn't try to explain why things are as simple as they are, or why space is green/blue/orange instead of black.

Elite's USP is a believable sandbox in the form of our galaxy, that's why I still play it, despite EDO. If I want to play a fun and engaging game, there are indeed better options.

Riverside's post from the last page sums it up perfectly so will leave this here also.

You have a clear idea of what you are looking to get out of the game, but I think you are confusing a desire for verisimilitude with a desire for realism.

Agreed with everything, but how has the flight model gotten worse in EDO? Care to elaborate?
People have reported that ships handle slightly differently in EDO.

I can't really say myself, because I've been using mostly different ships in EDO than I did in EDH.

It's hard to describe, and it's subtle, but thrusters seem to be weaker somehow.

At first I thought it's input lag, but others have noticed it also and EDO performs ok (read: mostly hit 60fps with stuttery interludes). I used to be able to accurately slap a Cobra 3 without much slowing down onto the landing pad, now I constantly overshoot. It's more noticeable with smaller ships.

When I play Horizons (and it's been a while now, I still need to patch it) ships feel "tighter", "snappy", "lively", "more direct", if you know what I mean.

In EDO, flying feels less engaging and more like a chore, while I can't get enough flying even an E-rated Sidewinder around a space station. I should really give Horizons a go again to see if this still holds true or not.
