Update 11: let the complaints begin....

When I tried FC interiors on someone else's carrier (which had all services installed) I sat down at the bar (so far so good) and then wanted to interact with the bartender - not to order a drink, I'm not a crazy person, but to open up the menu - couldn't do it and had to get up first to do so.

Now, given that you can't do anything at all when sitting down, I have to assume that this was by design and not a bug. I wonder whether they ran out of budget here as well.

Thing is, many of the ideas being discussed aren't even all that revolutionary - a lot is just QoL stuff that people can already do in other games for years (like sitting down and talking to an NPC for example, or interacting with a screen that's on your desk/next to your seat). So I don't really get that defensive attitude of slapping down suggestions that wouldn't actually cost a lot in terms of asset creation or designing elaborate gameplay mechanics.

For sure, there are some small QoL features that could do with happening, and I'd love to see the barman made actually useful. But again, not the point being made.

I've been thinking about this for the past few days now, but it's probably the time to say goodbye to any of the more fancy ideas and suggestions anyways.

FC interiors - and the various other bits and bobs that have been added within the last 10 months or so - are (imo) a pretty good indicator of the level of quality and scope that people can expect going forward, assuming there will be any major DLC (free or paid) over the coming years.

I'll keep an eye on the stream tonight, obviously not expecting much at all in terms of what's coming next (even though now that U11 is part of the status quo it would be logical to move on to that), but will try to read between the lines to see if it's worth persevering with this game or not.

Depends if you need hope and a community as part of the game.

A few days ago, I decided to think about being inside the game when I thought about elite. Very familiar, and quite positive compared to the things outside the game which are full of resentment and woe. Even annoyance when you read the patch notes etc.

Just thinking about only the game makes me want to play it :)

Being able to go straight to the bridge from the hangar would be cool!

I was a little bit disappointed, although not surprised, that you can't see the landing pads on a Nautilus class carrier. It would have been nice to have windows at the rear of the concourse area.

If so, let's keep this 👇 thread UP

Hope is probably the wrong word - I played the game so extensively I'm craving for new things to get involved in and to do.

U11 disappointed once more on this aspect, and I already expected little given I'm not an FC owner currently - but I had this RP idea in my head namely making a decent amount of credits selling leftover EDO mats which could go some way towards getting my own FC, once I had that I could then build a business of trading with EDO mats (i.e. give me an actual reason again to collect those and thus visit settlements again, and also helping out other players as a side-effect).

Given how FDev implemented the mat trader/bartender (basically a straight copy/paste of the commodities trading market, but with even more severe restrictions regarding price and volume given the base values) that idea is now dead in the water. So I'm back to do the exact stuff I've been doing for years and I ask myself am I still enjoying it?

The answer used to be yes but things have really gone stale, and the next meaty update is months, maybe years away.

Ahh the old dead in the water idea. Happened to me a few times, im probably not the best to ask because in most cases i just drifted away (having a huge blacklog).

With odd, because i've had so much trouble running it, i've sort of been delaying the moment of doom.. At the moment all i have to accept is i can't run it. As its getting better, im slowly starting to fathom that somehow, in spacelegs what i wanted from the beginning, there is zero content for me. Im walking away with upgraded lighting as the only certain positive. Its been years though, not worth being strongly bothered about it i guess.

At some point, the development support becomes more of a 'this it it, its what they can manage', rather than they're holding back or its something temporary, so the most positive thing to expect is to focus on whats there, and ignore marketing.

I had a very intense EDO focused period where I played the game daily for several hours, to get my 3 suits G5'd and engineered, and some weapons (none are higher than G4, but that's more than enough to roflstomp even High CZs). I no longer see a reason th visit settlements because CZs play out in the same way and it bores me (the experience isn't as visceral as flying a spaceship, and the gunplay in say CP2077 is much more intense, fun and involved in comparison so I stick to that instead), and mats wise I don't need anything anymore. Missions don't pay out well either so to make credits I have to revert back to ship stuff, which has been stagnant for years now. I can't really see them flesh out any of that, so that leaves me with a choice, do I keep playing the same old stuff or do I move on? U11 has gone a long way answering that question to me, and that's ok one way or another.

I never did have much interest in the fps aspect, and was disappointed when the first leaks appeared about it, so I don't have a single ody engineer yet. I did pick up some G3 weapons and suits and tried out the theft missions, but found that I am just really crap at it! That is still the part of ody that could be interesting, and I was really hoping that update 11 would help with mats (I am buying mats at Tom's Cabin in Eravate at top prices if anyone wants to pay a visit lol)

I have a compulsive streak and figured I may as well give it a fair go but then really needed to complete them - did a lot of missions so got quite familiar with how that aspect of the game works, the flipside is I know it too well now and the AI poses no more challenge once you know how to solve the puzzle of achieving your mission goal. It's also surprising that despite the 27 (or 28?) layouts you quickly recognise them and know exactly where/how to get the alarm disabled etc.

I wish there were more reasons to visit those settlements, but once you've reached your end game in terms of EDO engineering/gear there's little reason to... and that's where I'm at now. I would suggest to take your time and break it up with ship gameplay as that will delay the moment above. If missions paid better I'd probably be more inclined to do the odd mission now and then, but it's one of the worst activities when credits are a focus (and those very much are for me as I've been saving for a FC).

I agree that any future content additions seem to be extremely limited in scope. I don't want to start the pointless "100+ developers" discussion again, but I do wonder. I know most of the "coders" were probably occupied with performance and console port issues, but what have the 3D artists been doing for the last ~year for instance? FC interiors seem to be made up of ~90% preexisting assets (and why shouldn't they), but that loader for the new protection missions can't have kept them busy all this time. We haven't had a new ship in ages for example.

Exobiology is another pet peeve of mine. Frontier made it a whole new career but it's severely lacking in gameplay in my opinion.

When developers keep highlighting a sit-down animation for the biggest update since Odyssey's release, it should give everyone a clear indication of what scope to expect for future updates.

Good question - my theory is they're sharing devs/artists across IPs and Elite has been drawing the short straw for a while. Can't think of any other explanation really. As for that loader... I had a closer look, it's just a static asset by the looks of things, and even then it seems very half baked - some really weird semi-transparent black texture left inside it unless that's supposed to model something I can't quite recognise. Surprised they even mentioned that explicitly in the build up - a bit like CDPR announcing a new rubbish bin model in Night City.

I always thought they were going to replace the dropped minigame, but doesn't look like it. I guess holding a button for a few seconds is good enough in their view. 🤷‍♂️

That, but also... and I'm sorry towards the Positivity Police but ... in first person at least you don't even see any body parts of yours i.e. it's just a straight on-rails camera move, not quite what I'm used to in other games, but it would be fine if you could at least do anything while sitting down, other than sitting down. I'd probably be a bit embarrassed though to list that as a headline feature.

I think they did an overall great job with Fleet carrier interiors! Some quirks and numbers to iron out, more livery options would be nice, But overall really good! I look forward to more content like this, hopefully ship interiors are being considered.

Some people, especially in such a divisive game like Elite Dangerous, are always going to find something to complain about though, and if they feel that way, are entitled to voice their opinion.

I don't have a fleet carrier (seems a bit like cheating to me, or like, undermining other aspects of the game – to each their own), but I think them getting interior spaces is a move in the right direction at least.

Personally I wouldn't mind a period where FDev focuses on improving frame rates, lighting, bug fixing, and QoL features, while not releasing any new content at all... Possibly in addition updating networking/instancing, engineering, PP and C&P.

Can't you say the same about the station concourse? All of this could be replaced with menus...

I assume that the effort for ship interiors will be much greater, as each ship requires an individual design. Or does anyone seriously want such an off-the-shelf IKEA solution? I say: No thanks. But apart from the long development time for the FC interiors, which is completely incomprehensible to me, there is nothing really new to see, nothing that doesn't already exist in the settlements and the station interiors. Everything is recycled! Whereas at least the consoles have a meaningful purpose otherwise, with the SC it's hardly more than decoration. Ok, as someone recently taught me: pure RP-fluff.
Actually, I don't really come with an opinion to be honest. I want ship interiors, but the whole ever-reoccurring discussion about it is kinda useless.
I just found the fact funny, that we went full circle with the arguments... People scream for interiors for ages, then we get an interior and it's been criticised with the same points the devs came up with when they said why they think interiors are not a good idea. :D

I think it's possible to distinguish between the idea itself and how it was implemented. People mostly complain about the latter, not the former.

Ok so I get home to my fleet carrier and start my wandering around finally ending up at my commander's chair
Sit down... side screen swings around....
And I cant interact with it.... what an ideal spot to put the fleet carrier console.....

<<off down disappointment avenue
I find that the barman not offering all materials (foot and ship) as a player to player market is a shame and missed opportunity to start fleshing out a player to player economy.
