What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

I have to come up with an idea for a ringtailed Lemur habitat for Amity, but haven't yet. I still wanted to play though.
So, my best friend (not a PZ player) keeps telling me how much my german "low budget" zoo Tierpark Murmeldorf is close to her heart. But I'm stuck with Murmeldorf for at least 9 month now. With the expirience I make with Amity in mind, that a defined end really helps my brain, So I jumped into Murmeldorf and pre-planned the whole go-around and all animals and places for the habitats.

The best part is, that Murmeldorf will house Cranes and Small Clawed Otters, so I can enjoy them a little faster. :D Will switch between Amity and Murmeldorf now, pausing the open end projects that currently overwhelm me. As much as I love this game, after all this time I'm still trying to figure out how to stick to a project and what works for me, I admit. But looking at all the cancled YT series of Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo I might be in good company ;)

I admire all of you who are working on a single project for such a long time. I wish I could - but am also looking forward to my now "defined end" projects.

I just did a very gross/ simple Franchise zoo, made with no love or care but just to survive the early game and make money. Complete with a floating monorail and all.

Looking good - i like the monorail track over the path - suits this monorail single car weird seating version. Interested to see your supports for the monorail - so many designs come to mind. The El in Chicago perhaps and their fantastic support structures could suit. Look forward to more. . . :)

Me too - i love building mainly and when the zoo gets too massive and play is hampered by too much scenery - i move on to next Zoo/s - your aerial shot was extremely high - but makes sense with the huge planned path system - very exciting . . . (y):) Looks like a very big Zootacular amity extravaganza. :D

Built and scrapped a snow leopard habitat about four times.

Need to get my groove back. I want to start the Asia section before I go back to Africa with the new lechwe when the DLC drops. I'm imagining a sort of "mountain cats" area with the snow leopards and Siberian tigers, but realistically I need two enclosures for each (one for the male, one for the female/cubs), which is where I'm struggling a little. I also want both enclosures to be quite mountainous which is challenging.

I'm also going to do an Asian waterways area with the new otter, Indian rhinos, and a crane habitat with an Asian-style restaurant overlooking it. I thought about including water buffalo as well but I'm also thinking about making my lechwe habitat a mix of lechwes and Cape buffalo, so it's a toss up (I don't want both in my zoo).

Finally, I'm thinking about doing a Borneo House with the orangutans on one side and proboscis monkeys on the other ('house' is a bit of a misnomer - the enclosures would be outdoors, with indoor viewing), loosely based on my local zoo's Great Ape Centre (gorillas on one side, siamangs on the other - used to be orangutans but they were on lease from Auckland Zoo and they haven't been able to source their own, so the habitat was given over to the siamangs instead).

Today I've been redesigning my island Zoo - doing another version after looking at crowd lemmings and traffic problems all around the Zoo and playing around with restaurants and giraffes - I built a semi-aquatic restaurant - Bistro aquaticus species, family Eatalotus.

And also added pink rocks? Kinda goes well with the oxidised copper . . .

The eternal dilemma: do I start a new wetlands now and get the entrance etc build so it's ready to go as soon as the DLC drops ... or do I wait in the (admittedly very, very, very low) hopes that we'll get new maps?!

Thank you :) It's not Amity though, it's Murmeldorf this time. (Typicall German Tierpark, just with some exotioc animals as placeholders for things like racoon and wild boar). I plan to do the same for Amity though. Plus is, that I can build a habitat in the middle of the zoo if I feel like it and not have to check off what's next on the list. Hopefully that will keep me from having yet another unfinished project at the end because I lost steam.

I had this problem with a Tiger habitat in Unity. Also scrapped four times. I don't know what that is with cat habitats, but they give me almost as much of a headache as everything with a swimming area. (Yeah, I know I planned a zoo with a lot of swimming area...)

Definately share screenshots, even if the work is not done yet!

Oh my gosh, your Island Zoo looks awesome! Love the classical style with it, reminds me of my favourite place.

Prepare. If we get new maps, they would have probably say it already and if everything fails you can buleprint your entrance and move over.

It always baffles my mind that people are able to focus their attention on just one project. I currently have two "big" zoos that I'm working on and constantly switching between each other, but have abandoned at least ten different zoos in the past. Sometimes I liked certain habitats so much that I blueprinted them and transferred them into a different project, but it often happens that I just don't "feel" a zoo anymore and want to go for something different instead. I have yet to finish one zoo, but I'm optimistic that I will soon get my long-term project done that I've been working on on-and-off for at least 1.5 years by now! I'm playing that project with 10-12 FPS in paused mode, but hey, at least I can still open the file. :D

20220403122559_1.jpg

This is what that project currently looks like from an aerial perspective.
I haven't showcased it on the forums yet outside of a few habitats in this thread, but I'm loving how it all comes together right now that I'm already at 38 habitats and ~300 animals total!

My main to-do list right now looks like this (posting mostly for personal reference):
  • connect the entrance building with the rest of the zoo (built the entrance only very recently and haven't decided yet on whether to include any facilities or plazas in the area)
  • complete the South America section (in the top right corner) with the inclusion of my beloved capybaras
  • finish the primate section on the top left corner (japanese macaques are still left, but I want to wait until the update drops before designing their habitat)
  • finish the Tropical Domes (they can be seen in the top center); will probably relocate the Giant Otters here and put the Asian Small-Clawed Otters in the original otter habitat in the entrance area of the zoo)
  • finally build the African Safari/Savannah in the space of the top left - will probably divide this into two-three different habitats
  • build a Red Kangaroo habitat at the top of the map, right at the North Entrance
  • possibly include one more feline - I only have clouded leopards and snow leopards in this zoo, so it would make sense to include another one. I'm really undecided, however. I have not included any big-ticket animals in this entire zoo so far (no lions, tigers, elephants, rhinos, giraffes, wolves, not even bears) and kind of want to keep it that way. Lynx, cheetah or cougar seem like good options, but I'm not sure where to find more space for them.

Thank you - just having fun - the building in this game is so AWESOME - and good to hear you are Amityising the other Zoo - Murmeldorf will be a monster size zoo - really look forward to seeing your progress - always inspiring to see other peoples ideas and designs :D
Where is your favorite place? And what does 'Typicall German Tierpark' mean? - not familiar with the word 'Tierpark'.

Hi Councillor - your park is huge - could we see some closeup shots too - would be great - it looks really nice from the air.

Tierpark is basically the German word for "Zoo", although it would be more accurately translated as "Animal Park". :D

I will definitely do so! I've wanted to do it for a while, but I don't want to flood this thread with too many pictures and if I create a thread in the "Your Creations" section, I kind of want to be able showcase the entire finished zoo at that point haha.

But I do want to share two pictures now - first, what a sight! Imagine casually walking along the path and then being treated to the image of this absolutely massive unit of a moose right next to the viewing area!

And then, this is probably my favorite habitat I have done: a little palace for the Red Pandas. It took me such a long time to build (plus several rebuilds, because damn, why does almost every beam in the game have to be climbable?!), but I'm so proud of how it turned out.

The grass in the first shot is awesome - I'll have to try that. Your Zoo looks great - pity about the Frame rates though - that's what gets me and then i start on new zoo and theming - which is always fun :D I was too lazy to Google the word - it's late here and getting tired, thanks though, G

Thank you! I have to say the same thing about your Island Zoo - it looks so unique and unlike anything I've seen being built in PZ so far, and there are so many interesting and great designs on the pics you shared!

The frame rates really do make playing it an annoyance at time, but hey, I can't complain since I'm playing on a laptop that isn't even that good to begin with, so the fact that I even got to this point of the build stuns me. Granted, I play without guests and if I put the graphics at anything other than low it instantly crashes the entire game, but it's doable for now haha!

My favourite place is Kappeln. It's a little town near the baltic sea in northern germany. And yes, as @Councillor said, Tieroark is another word for Zoo. It can be used for any zoo, but is ususally used when the zoo is quite embedded in nature, like in a forest. You basically combining going to a zoo with visiting nature. Most Tierparks are relatively low budget and keep regional animals and those that are easy to keep in german temperatures without big inside habitats or much heating etc. Everything that is in the european pack and most of what is in the north america pack would be typically "Tierpark" animals. Some of the Arctic packs as well, like reindeer and Dall Sheep.

Usually the regular low budget Tierpark builds with a lot of wood and theme only a little.

Trying to lay down the map for Amity now. :)

Quickly Binged before bed and looks so pretty - will look more tomorrow - thanks for chatting and the info and have a great day everyone, G

And this is it, the last habitat that I'm building in this zoo is ready. Welcome to the sea lion habitat!

Reminds me of my Marine Park. Will be so nice when I someday have the North America Pack and can replace the Grey Seals with Sealions due to the hot Temperatures outside. I can't come up with a proper Design though for the Building that will house the Grey Seals and King Penguins afterwards

😍 I absolutely love it. Sadly I'm not that good at landscaping outside of Enclosures, besides Forests

Really nice 👍

A more arid looking Enclosure with lots of Rocks for them would be nice. Maybe with a big Tree on one Side to spend some Shadow

Oh my gosh, I have this same problem! I struggle with basically all large carnivores because I never feel like the habitat is "grandiose" enough for them-- especially big cats!

Unfortunately I forgot to take pics, but I was working on Montego Bay Zoo yesterday.

Using @coatifan's advice, I built one of the weirdest buildings I've ever done: no roof at all (except the restroom for obvious reasons and 1 enclosure). This little area features black-and-white ruffed lemurs, all named after sodas (Nale: Pepsi. Female: Shasta. Baby: Root Beer).
Next to them, a family of aardvarks. Bob is the male, named after great reggae singer Bob Marley.
It also has some dung beetles and goliath frogs...

When I finished the build, I saw that where I had my antelopes and flamingos, it was disgusting. The build was barf emoji. So, I decided to fix it.
I built a brand new flamingo enclosure, much larger, right across where my odd building is (the nice build, not the terrible one). Moved the birds there, much, much better.
Then, I rebuilt the antelopes in the same spot they were in, including where the flamingos used to be. Everything looks amazing. Time later, though, with 15 antelope in there, there was always someone stressed, particularly the wildebeests, so I thought: "Nope, not doing this. Goodbye". Now it just houses sable antelopes (my favorite antelope) and Thomson's gazelles (better, that way there's less mess and more room for all).

Ok, let's move along. After the remodelling, I just knew I needed lions, not because I like them (I kinda dislike them for what they are, killing young, killing hyenas, stealing food, but many species do that, I guess). I needed lions because they seem to be symbols in lots of Jamaican things. So, I built a nice enclosure for them, not very big, enough for a trio. This build also features a restaurant with a nice view of the lions (not that guests will see them because they prefer ice cream.) The build also houses some giant tiger land snails.

Anyways, onto the lions. It's gonna serve as a breeding program, hopefully. The big male is named Ziggy, after Ziggy Marley...

Anyways, that's it for now.

I'm planning on moving to the other side and doing Asia (to expand where I have my dholes), adding an Indian rhino, not sure what else. Maybe hybridized tapirs? It'll be a first
