Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Before you start, be aware that the mouse does not do anything in the cockpit, you have to use the "focus" keys to move around the menus and make your selections:
I think you can set mouse headlook to on under the headlook section in ship control options. Trouble is, it seems to get rid of the mouse widget if you do...

... but it still doesn't "do" anything. Lots of people (me included) are used to having an interactive cockpit - point and click - ED's "UI Focus" system catches out a lot of newcomers, particularly if they come from a flight sim background.

The imperial fighter is cute.

BTW, the lasers on the fighters seems a bit more powerful than those on our ships?

Even with those fixed pulse, I can see 1% armor lost per shot on my target, not to mention the beam!

Despite looping around the far side of this triple-geological, one-biological planet... I have still not found those elusive bark mounds. At this point, I'm giving up.

At least some of the terrain gen was pretty cool.

Also, the geology was really quite generous today. Lots of high grade materials, very few cobble. Even included a couple of clusters of metallic meteorites, loaded with technetium, niobium, and germanium. A short drive quickly generated a respectable quantity of stuff, so at least my time has not been wasted! 😸

Hey, Mr To'f. I just read a hcs voice pack email saying the have a new welcome home message for the FC owner when landing on their own FC. Part of the hcs voice pack set ups. For those that use them.. 👍👀

I hope that wasn't from yesterday morning.

Well I received that email today and it contained the following section:

Singularity Update for Fleet Carriers Elite Dangerous.
With Elite having reached Patch 11, and new services available "on foot" for those that own, or visit carriers, the voice packs now have an available update to bring in a few new commands and udpates to some existing commands.

The voice commands for Carrier Services when docked in Odyssey have been updated to allow you to correctly ask your crew to "take me to carrier management" and "take me to tritium depot", as well as the existing commodity markets.

We have added recognition by your crew when you dock at your OWN fleet carrier, welcoming you back to it too – Just to make it feel that little bit more like home or a safe haven. This is a really nice feature and we hope you like it :) - And don't forget, to check for updates, use the following voice command:
"Protocol override customise my settings" - Then hit 'CHECK FOR UPDATES"
HCSVP - Lead developer, David Pearson
I have not tried it yet - still grappling with WARTHOG bindings

Just tried it out - never noticed anything but then again the parrot did swear a lot when I requested docking. Obviously they couldn't alter the "Carrier ATC" but I thought they might have stuck something on the ship's crew response. So it looks like a mis-timed April Fool (it was received on the 2nd).

The screenshots in that guide indicate that it could be around 3 years old, it is possible that changes over that time have reduced its efficacy.
....Took a day off from the combat grind to work on imperial rank.
According to the guide I'm following, it should take ~90 minutes???

3 more ranks until the cutter :)

If I manage to keep going until the rank of King - Will you all address me as 'Your Majesty' :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
As aRJay suggested, that guide could be out of date.
I grinded my cutter initially via data courier missions, when you see the ranking speed start to slow down, then switched to burning station rescue.

Rescue missions is surprisingly effective imo, and have good $$ return. So I guess you might want to take a look.

Thanks I'll take a look. (y)

I've noticed each time I go up a rank, the next is already at 100%
I've been stacking 20 missions each run (Data courier) and even dropped ~10+ Mil in donations to give rep a boost.

What's slowing it up is the time until the next Navy mission appears.

Wow. You must've been grinding hard to accumulate that much faction!

Took a moment to bask in my new paint jobs. Think I'll need to come back to a station to really see the full effect though, lighting is very harsh in a vacuum.

Also, third planet in this same system with "bark mounds". They don't exist. I swear they don't exist.

Yep - Missions are really fast to complete :)

Ah, the classic rep grind route. Been there myself; there's so many fleet carriers it's comical.

This is ironic.

Back before Odyssey, before Exobiology, I took quite a long exploration trip out past Colonia and back. It seemed like every biological I found was Bark Mounds. They were everywhere. I tried blowing them up with lasers and multicannons, but they were impervious. I came to the conclusion that Bark Mounds were the dominant life form in the galaxy, and would eventually take over.

I guess that has changed :p
