Unpopular Pack that You Would Buy

Thought about this a little recently.

What are some DLC themes you think would probably be unpopular in the wider community that you would want anyway?

The two obvious ones for me are the New Zealand Pack (kiwi, little blue penguin, NZ fur seal, takahe, tuatara) and the Japan Pack (tanuki, Japanese sika, Japanese serow, sea otter, fire-bellied newt). Not to mention a host of single-family packs, like a Primate Pack, Ungulate Pack, or Carnivore Pack.

For me, I'd probably buy a Primate Pack, a Latin/Central America Pack, and a Sonoran Pack. None of these are that unpopular though IMO

I'm afraid I'm that weird customer that would buy everything, so for me there is no "unpopular pack". I might pass on an all exhibit animal.

What I promote would be a primate pack. But as you say, maybe too specialized. On the other hand, aren't birds too?
I would buy a "bat pack" with flying foxes , vampire bat and whatever other bat species they might throw in there.

I would buy an "alternative models" pack with improved Camels, Bisons, Lions, Tigers and Jaguars. And probably a bear pack with spectacled bear, sloth bear, eurasian brown bear and whatever.
I have a thing for goats and sheeps, so would also buy a pack that include only them. A second europe pack...

Pack I would think twice before buying: Petting zoo pack.

I think I would buy nearly every pack. I am the opinion that all species are unique and they deserve it to be in the game of Chören by the developers. Non aviary birds would be very great in my opinion for example. There was never a promise that we get aviaries but I can list more than 7 birds which we could get without aviaries. The only pack I would not buy is an extinct animal pack because I think Planet Zoo is the wrong game for them.

Small World DLC:

A DLC with only exhibit animals. I can pass on tarantulas and scorpions, but snakes, lizards, frogs, newts, salamanders, gimme them.

Another series of unpopular packs:

Carnivora (Canine) animal pack
  • Maned wolf
  • Red fox (gray is preferred, but I think red is more common)
  • Tanooki (aka, raccoon dog)
  • Bush dog
  • Coyote
  • Culpeo fox (zorro)
  • Mexican gray wolf
Carnivora (Feline) animal pack:
  • Caracal
  • Ocelot
  • Bobcat
  • Jaguarundi
  • Amur leopard
  • Serval
  • Fishing cat
Primate animal pack:
  • Black howler monkey
  • Vervet monkey
  • Coquerel's sifaka
  • Lion-tailed macaque
  • Hamadrayas baboon
  • Rhesus macaque
  • Siaming

I must say I would celebrate all of these packs and I think a primate pack could still be possible. But of course, I understand that these packs could be a bit boring for most of the players.

This is what I'm talking about, of course.

Packs that you think the majority of people would find boring, but you really want.

An Exhibit Animal Pack is a great example of that. A large section of the community is against exhibit animals in their entirety, but I would definitely buy a full DLC dedicated solely to them.

I'd like a reptile pack. If it was an animal pack, it could easily give us all the habitat reptiles we could possibly need, like the Nile Crocodile, Perentie, and African Spurred Tortoise. Maybe it would cost slightly less than a normal pack, say, 7$ USD, and give us a 5/3 split of habitat and exhibit reptiles, especially since most of the animals included would be clones with little remodeling required.

Honestly it'd be really difficult to come up with a pack of real, living animals that I wouldn't buy.

That said, some of the ideas I've tossed around in my head that wouldn't go over too well with the general public include:
  • North America Animal Pack 2 (I don't think most people would scoff too badly at the black bear or raccoon, but when I'm secretly wishing for coyotes and bobcats you know there's going to be trouble)
  • Felid Pack (absolutely trivial to come up with 7 that I'd still love to see - leopard ocelot serval caracal sand fishing Pallas is the first set to come to mind but even then those are just the cream of the crop, not to mention the bobcat I already mentioned)
  • Canid Pack (not as clear cut as the cats but I do really want to see tanuki, bush dog, red fox, bat-eared fox, gray fox (yes, three foxes), black-backed jackal, and even though I don't have strong feelings for them people sure do like their maned wolves... also the aforementioned coyote)
  • Antelope Pack (it blows my mind when people say we have enough or even too many)
  • Primate Pack (honestly this one would stand the best chance of winning people over, I think)
  • Domestic Animal Pack (I don't think this game will ever be truly complete without actual goats but we could also use alpacas, kunekune pigs, ankole cattle, domestic waterfowl, turkeys, donkeys, even slot the dromedary in here if need be)

I really like this thread, because if we want game support to continue for a long time, there's going to come a point naturally where Frontier is supporting only the hardest core fans (hard corest fans?), and we need to be ready to continue to cheer Frontier and bypass the naysayers. It's also a bit tough to answer, because popular/unpopular can mean so many different things. Are we talking actual Sales? Reviews? Realism? Least controversial? Most consensus building? Loudest complaints from one part of the community (including my own part of the community - HA!)?

Like others here, any pack with animals in it is a must buy for me. I'm actually not even convinced that the single-family packs (primates, ungulates, reptiles, felids, canids) or specific regional packs would actually be less popular in practice, presuming that they each included the most popular examples of their kind. I guess it depends on what is meant by popular. Sure, the reviewers might not like them, and there would surely be some who complain. But I'm not convinced that sales for such packs would actually turn out to be less than other packs. Even an explicit all-clone pack would probably sell well if they manage to include all the most popular and requested clones.

And I think a domestic/petting zoo pack might actually turn out to be even MORE popular than some of our other packs, even if there are some reviewers or zoo specialists who might complain. Because I think that casual players who maybe aren't on these forums as much would totally eat that up!

I would definitely buy an exhibit animal pack! Although I'd love to see it could include a few more animals than normal, given that they're (presumably) easier to create. (I'm presuming that most of the updates to the mechanics would need to be in the associated update).

I personally would love a cetacean pack. I understand all the ethics concerns. But the zoo I grew up with when I was a kid (Indianapolis Zoo) had an oceans section that included dolphins, porpoises, whales and sharks, and I would love to be able to have these in game. And while there might be some who would boycott such a pack, and probably many who would complain or review poorly, I still have a feeling that it would end up selling fine in actuality.

A few packs that I'm not requesting, but would probably buy, include a recently extinct animals pack (say the last 500 years, so it could include the dodo), as well as a prehistoric pack (they could just import the species from jwe2), and even an alien/cryptic/fantasy pack. But again, these fall into the category of "I'd buy them if they came out", but I don't think these should be a priority.

For me personally, one of the hardest choices would be if they decided to do a scenery only pack, with no animals but only building pieces. I'd probably break down and buy it anyway, since I'd want to support the game and could probably justify it to myself that I'd end up using some of the pieces if I had them (which would probably end up being true).

I've even seen some suggestions of a ride pack or transportation pack, but to be honest I'm not sure if I'd end up buying that one or not. That may be too far for me.

By contrast, a plant only pack would be an instant buy for me, and probably many others on this forum, but might not do as well with casual players?

You have some great ideas there - to this point specifically, I guess it's just a 'feeling'. For example, the New Zealand Pack I've proposed. New Zealand isn't an area of the world that gets much attention (which is good, IMO, but anyway), so a lot of people don't quite realise what we have to offer. Of course a lot of what is quintessentially New Zealand wouldn't appeal to a lot of people around the world, either, such as Maori art, NZ architecture, and so on.

We have a term here - Kiwiana - which refers to things that can only be appreciated by New Zealanders.

So, I know that a proposed scenery pack dedicated to New Zealand alone wouldn't be hugely popular. The animals might be, but the rest not so much.

Similarly, with animal family packs (primates, ungulates, etc.) a lot of the time when they get proposed the general complaint is that they lack diversity. So a lot of these packs won't be hugely popular (though primates has steadily risen in appeal as a theme, I think).

A scenario pack! And not the timed ones! I'd love more scenarios, or the ability to design our own scenarios. I like the challenges. I struggle to build anything when I'm faced with a big empty space, though I have loads of ideas, I'm just not great at building. But I love the management and challenge of the game, and looking after the animals/welfare etc.

And actually, I'd like a petting zoo/farm pack. I quite like how some zoos have a children's corner as it usually is called, with goats, pigs and sheep, maybe cows, donkeys, and some smaller animals - chickens, ducks, rabbits, ferrets etc. I sort of have it in my head that a low budget zoo might have started off as a working farm, but had to diversify, open to visitors. Fallow deer, badger, peafowl. Keep the farm animals, maybe once they've grown a bit include a small reptile centre, a tortoise, otters, beavers, maybe flamingo, llama, lemurs, wolves. It's kind of based on something similar near to where I live. Used to be called Hoo Farm, now Hoo Zoo, and it's pretty much what I've said. They've got some cool animals - fishing cat, foxes, emu, rhea, etc. And a walkthrough animatronic dinosaur section!!
