ObsidianAnt: Frontier - What The HECK Is Going On With Elite Dangerous?

I'm not nitpicking. I completely disagree with your assessment that a commercial games studio running streams from a manned and fully fitted studio could be considered to be not professional. And you can tell the difference now they have returned to the studio.
I'm speaking of entertainment value. It's informative, and can be entertaining at times, but it's not professional streamer quality.

And no, they are not professional streamer. There job is CM. It's what they are paid for. They are, indeed, professional CM.

OA is a professional youtuber. He doesn't do a CM job. He does a good job at youtubing. That's why he gets more views.

Also, to be fair, OA is a lot more entertaining than the CM to watch on stream. Not to throw shade on them, but they are not professional streamer and all. It's not as easy as a job as you might thing.

I guess the CM team would instantly gain a lot of fans if they would start bashing on FDev 😂

I other news, i kinda hate myself (j/k ofc) for the fact that i really like OA voice pitch and his phrasing and cadence.
I may not agree with his content or the tabloid way of presenting the content, but he does have a really nice voice

Edit: however i disagree that the CM team is not entertaining.
Arf is really up there, Bruce and Zac too - but they have a really hard job these days.

So the CM team has to keep the ship running, and they're trying.
It sux to be in their shoes now, but they are doing the best they can given the circumstances and they do have my respect for that
I absolutely would not want to be in their shoes. I barely want to deal with myself on a daily basis as it is, although if I were paid to deal with me maybe it'd be different lol. I do see your point and kind of envision it as there being information the CM team wants to share and information they're allowed to share. I believe they want to share more with us than they're allowed to share at the moment. So, what we have is the silence due to their hands being tied as far as content updates and development plans. They could, however, still engage with the community. I mean Zac tried with the whole mining ship build and then it all fizzled out. Sure there are a lot of other non-related posts over there, but if he engaged with the ones who replied that would be a positive sign. I assume they're still receiving a salary, so even if it is budgetary concerns it doesn't cost anything but their time (maybe some sanity) to engage with the forums on topics you can discuss.

You are absolutely correct: When a publicly traded company is not getting sufficient return to maintain a project, funding gets pulled.
Consoles were probably pulled because EDO development was already over budget.
Planetary tiling issues required too much effort to correct, so, by inference, would cost too much to put right.

Frontier is a business, and fallible, EDO's release, and subsequent 11 months of 'fixes' is costing them revenue, the project is probably on very thin ice today, and the temperature is rising! ;)

Who was it that said... I think it was Erei, or Fizzatron. Somebody said that it was probably something to do with certification. I think they're on to something with that being that I don't think it was necessarily Frontier's decision to pull from the new consoles. I think maybe the platform holders told them they couldn't go back on their word to launch on the new systems. It was either both or nothing because of the light it would cast on the platform holders. But they cannot come out and say that and the platform holders don't really gain anything from saying something.

Yes, there is a notable difference in the new presentation, they have certainly moved forward in their revamped studio.

Indeed, you have your own preference, as do others. Entertainment is individual, isn't it?
And no, they are not professional streamer.
True, they are able to produce content without having to consider if it will generate enough clicks to pay their salary.
There job is CM. It's what they are paid for. They are, indeed, professional CM.
Indeed they are!

Obviously he has a following... But only by producing content that will keep the clicks coming will they continue to follow him.
As long as you are happy, that is all that really matters, isn't it?

Indeed they could be more active.
But it seems they cant.
As i said in another post - they are no longer Elite CM Team (if they ever were). They are Frontier CM team and they do get involved in other projects (maybe more profitable)

For example Paul is involved in the Warhammer forums section
And Arf did a lot of voice overs for Warhammer trailers

I'm pretty sure they're really busy behind the scene

Well, i do think he managed to trap himself with that.
The moment he stops bashing ED a lot of his followers will move to a more bashy channel

But i also think there is no danger for that to happen 😂

What we forgetting most of our discussion time, is that Fdev gathering more money then ever. And as I mentioned back in the days, you can clearly see where they’re focus is. I mean it’s clear a license for JW or F1 or warhammer costs a lot. And as I mentioned before, they should clears up their companybio because, they aren’t interest in long time building. They proof this with elite in the best possible way. Is in the meantime the advirsement dissapeared? For the consoles? No it isn’t, so you can speculate, is it to wring the last money out of consoles or is it because they working on each level at speed of snails.

so I will go and play other games have a nice evening guys. Perhaps we see us in other forums.

He produces much more content that isn't ED these days. Provided he continues to deliver content the other audiences expect (praise, derision, whatever is flavour of the day) he should keep his head above water. Remember that youtube feeds streamers some very useful statistics of who is currently following what, so content might be tailored along the same lines of other successful streamers in order to stay popular.
But i also think there is no danger for that to happen
Sadly, I am in agreement, all we have had recently is information on what Frontier is not doing, without a turnaround and something positive being fed to players (more positive than a nod to U12 , for sure!) the general 'mood' isn't going to change, more likely worsen.

is that Fdev gathering more money then ever

Do they?
They finished the first half of FY2022 (June-November) at a 1.3 millions pounds loss.
I'm really curious how the full statement for the entire FY2022 will look - i do hope they get back on the positive side of the cash balance and they also enjoy successful launches for both Warhammer and F1 Manager... since that means DBOBE might redirect some of the funding to Elite (yea, i know wishful thinking 😇 )

Since I pointed at OA and CM streams comparison ... I think the main problem is that CM streams simply are NOT informative. During five streams was there only one usable info moment about "ongoing work on Update 12" ... sigh. They may be perfectly proffesional, have paintjobs rewards etc (I think they even may give ED for free), but still imo if there will be not info content, then they simply do not have any real chance to rise amount of views and reach to more players. Why? ... simple, players know this game much better in most aspects so why to watch someone else playing a game which you know better? I'm quite sure they know this well too, but with tied hands is hard to pull out miracles. They (CM) have access to sourcess which no streamer can have like devs, plans, future content, internal details about game content decisions. If they are denied of this, then tough luck.

It was me I think. I said that anyway.
If they did fail cert, then no Odyssey on consoles. It's not open to discussion. It would certainly explain why they can't even have the client, without DLC. Even though the FPS impact on odyssey content would probably be too minimal on consoles to be noticed and it would have left the door open for potential DLC release or just updating consoles like PC.
Also, it came roughly for the 1year anniversary of EDO release and it would have been a good PR move all around. Not to mention the end of the fiscal year and all the DLC sales from consoles.
Would also have explained the silence we had at the end of last year, as they waited for it for a "good news everyone" that didn't happen.

OFC it's supposition, but still.
I think you misunderstand the meaning of professional.
I think you misunderstand the concept of CM vs Streamer.

Whatever, you are right, the ED CM team is the rising star of Stream entertainment on twitch for sure. People do love them. Kinda tired of people nitpicking on just for the sake of arguing.

I've played for +7.5 years and over 7,300 hours. Even back when I started in October 2014, Obsidian Ant was making great videos.

Been playing for as long as you, although not as many hours! (wozers). Obsidian back then was a very different youtuber, he seemed more interested in actually telling us mostly about his exploits in game, tutorials etc with reasonable descriptions such as "Mining Guide & Tutorial", "The Anaconda in Virtual Reality" or "Witch Head" etc.

Nowadays I suspect he probably barely plays enough to use images as backdrop (not necessarily a bad thing, after the most likely hundreds if not thousands of hours he must have played there is not even need for an excuse to stop playing a game, any game, so props!), nevertheless he keeps doing videos about Elite. Although some of them have now somewhat different descriptions... such as "End of the Road?", "Its Days Are Numbered?" or "Elite Dangerous a Sinking Ship?".

... would you rather people lie and 'let things be' or tell the truth and try to get issues resolved?

There was a time where OA just made videos as he played the game to tell us his views and experiences in it etc. Nowadays it is a pity it seems he needs to resort to click bait to get some of his videos through. It is clear he is not interested in Elite as he was years ago and that is ok. If he wants to continue making Elite videos despite all that, hey, knock yourself out. I may be in the minority but I think in my case I personally would probably start watching some of his videos again (not just about Elite) if he either stopped the disappointing click baiting or perhaps when he decides stopping making videos about a game where he clearly has lost interest in. But hey, that is just me, and click bait sells so I hope it works well for him.

Fair play. I agree with you for nearly everything although I'm not fussed about what he calls the videos. I've seen other's expressing that point as well and for it to be expressed, it's been on peoples minds and that's totally fair enough. Personally, I don't mind what any of the content creators call their videos. Usually if it's anything about Elite then I'll watch it and give it a like to support everything Elite wise o7.

But titles/thumbnails are bad, or something
