Community Event Calendar Now Live!

The enthusiasm for the events calendar disappeared quickly.

Does it mean there are no events (until Lavecon) or there are events and no-one is using the calendar?
I've been using the calendar for the monthly Buckyball races - only problem is that we tend not to know the full details of the next race (or have its race banner image ready) until about a week before the race. For the first few I sent in a draft version and then contacted support to get it amended later on. Part of the problem is that I/we already have our own communities and various places where we communicate news of upcoming events (this forum, Discord, reddit, twitter, facebook, Hutton Radio, Lave Radio, etc, etc) so the community events calendar is just one more thing to remember. I absolutely salute the initiative but fear it may well fall into disuse.

Enthusiasm how? FDev feature it during it each stream, and groups post things that they've organised
Wasn't featured on the last stream 'cos there wasn't anything happening. I'm guessing it won't be featured today either!

So we are back to the old debate again.

When there is no news should they say nothing or should they say that there is no news to tell us.

This is different of course as a lack of events starting now is our fault not theirs.

To be honest my only real issue with the event calendar is that, having created an event, we don't get some sort of link or token that allows us to edit it directly. I guess that's partly technical and partly a trust/moderation issue where they wouldn't want us editing a previously approved event to turn it into something unsavoury (which of course some people would inevitably do). People eh? They ruin everything.

Hey Alec is it true you want to drive around a planet to see how much is the limit of the instance? Where can I see your progress?

Hi Deio - yup, I'm currently halfway around Col 359 Sector BE-Q c6-0 7 b (total circumference ~2500km).
I'm posting regular updates on twitter and also uploading bits of video to my Youtube channel.

Here's a short clip from today ..

It's a beautiful planet so I'm also posting quite a few screenshots over here.

It's not actually an instancing test, this is my 5th planetary circumnavigation in the SRV so I already know that it can be done (quite something to drive in one direction for a week or so and end up back where you started!). There's actually a whole forum thread for the Planetary Circumnavigation Club (believe it or not there's a whole load of other commanders who are more or less as crazy as me!).

This is my first circumnavigation in Odyssey tho' and that was the point of this one. I just want to give the new planet tech a real go and see how it compares with Horizons for long distance driving and exploration. So far (with certain reservations) I've been loving it - truly breathtaking at times, particularly the way the atmospheric lighting and sky colour changes changes over time.

Are live streams (like todays) not mentioned on the calendar for some reason or have I missed something?

I think the calendar is just for events created by us players that we can take part in, the stream was produced by Frontier.
