Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Like ship combat I grow to savor the on foot combat with time. I had not done ship combat either when I added Odyssey at patch 11, I think 4 months ago.

But I thought that solved the problem of playing too much because now you can change it up and go for a stroll and stay in Elite!

My favorite load out is my quiet footsteps blue maverick suit, with the executioner and a P-15.

My last adventure - 2 days back, prior to some frivolous but recuperative easy trade money yesterday, I took 4 VIP groups on local sightseeings. And I do like to take them first so they got to see it before they die if so. This was the first time I blew it (passenger+ground combat tours) and here follows the exciting tale.

The mark was way at the opposite end of the settlement, and I was getting pretty good jumping the SRVs over the obstacles and containers. I landed in an alley right in front of the mark and shot him without getting out, after briefly consider running him over. Either way, I had to not do what I did and try bounding away over obstacles again through the settlement. See, it is rocket science.

Now, I'd hardly complain I definitely made my bed on this one. What really sticks in my craw those is those passengers got a free sightseeing tour then canceled their contracts when I demised!

This does not compute.

That's why a carrier is so handy-dandy, you've got all your ships, cartographics and exobiology nearby. I'm still thinking about getting one, trying to stay old school.
I've got about 2.5 billion in the bank. I just got a bit burned out on mining and wasn't up for more bounties so I figured I'd go back out and explore for a while. I'm glad I did.

That's what I really love about this game: there's no grind. You get tired of something, go do something else. There's just so much to do, and I haven't even started on foot missions.

But I'll be getting into that hot and heavy in about 6 weeks when I get my new GPU.

If they are blowing down on you while you play, in one of those rooms, you may still count the fan install time as Elite-related, Marvin
The man cave in the basement where my gaming computer and desk is already has a ceiling fan in it and its own dedicated air conditioner. I'm replacing all the fans in the 4 bedrooms on the 2nd floor, so although it's an excellent thought, it was not Elite related.

I'm going to have to make up for the slack next week, to be sure. ;)

You can make pretty darn good money exploring (as you will find out), I made approximately 750 million credits on my last visit to astrometrics and cost me 25%. It would have been over 1 billion without those fees. Oh well, it's worth it.

Other influences having abated for now, I decided to do a little exploration... not necessarily by first choice, but because months ago I logged out a significant distance from the bubble and near this lumpy moon. Still, the urge to return to civilization isn't that strong yet, might as well see what's down there.

Turns out it was some rather pleasing snow bamboo. Snowboo?

Less photogenic, but more lucrative were a couple of systems with terraformable water worlds and HMCs. Once again I find it interesting that flying just 20-30 jumps beyond the bubble (in a fast ship) can get you to unexplored territory 😸

Although it does seem like about 20-30% of systems here (at least the G and F stars) have already been tapped, many of them were honk-and-runs. Which makes no sense to me because this isn't on the way to anywhere in particular. Still, perfectly good for sightseeing and gathering bio data. Didn't get the discovery on this one, but nobody had ever bothered to map or land on it. Ringed moon of a ringed primary. PRUA DRYOAE PJ-Y D1-3 3 C, for the interested.

Just around the corner - or a little further in towards the gas giant, an ammonia planet with many different bio signals. Honestly by this point, I just take the easy pickings where I first land and then move on, but in this case that was a pleasing 4/7.

EDDiscovery seems to be struggling to identify the scan value since last dock... but it's showing me yesterday as 18 million. Which should be enough to get through to allied with a faction of choice. I will snoop around the local area a little longer, then maybe head back and turn some of this data in.

I have however just noticed a body in this system with no atmo, 1 bio and 3 geo. I've been down this route before and never found anything, but I guess I will have another try and see if I can find that old school vacuum life...
