Anniversary animal speculation thread

So, last year we got the wonderful black-and-white ruffed lemur.

This year, we are likely to soon get a new anniversary animal, and following the logic of the lemur it should be something similar to a base game animal.

Here are the potential candidates I could think of:
  • American flamingo (from greater flamingo)
  • Arabian Oryx (Gemsbok)
  • Asian water monitor (Nile monitor)
  • Brazilian tapir (baird's tapir)
  • Greater rhea (from ostrich)
  • Grevy's zebra (Plains zebra)
  • Masai giraffe (reticulated giraffe)
  • Any macaque (from the japanese macaque)
  • Sumatran tiger (bengal tiger)
  • Wisent (american bison)
And some animals which are similar but not really as close as I'd expect for an anniversary animal:
  • African spurred tortoise (any tortoise)
  • Nile crocodile (slatwater crocodile)
I'd personally prefer the arabian oryx. Any mor candidates? Which of these you'd like?

What I would like? American Flamingo.

What I think we would get (If we would get an anniversary animal that is) ? Dromedary Camel.

At this point the dromedary is very popular, still I would prefer the flamingo as it:
1) is from SA
2) is a bird
3) is an SA bird and we got no birds from SA at all.

Wisent! I see no other way for them to get in.

The Arabian oryx would be nice too! Some Middle East representation is always welcome.

I absolutely don't expect another anniversary animal, but if one does happen, the American black bear has my vote. Other choices I'd be happy with would be the American flamingo, Masai giraffe, Grevy's zebra, Brazilian tapir, and of course the dromedary.

My vote goes to either the European Bison or the Sumatran Orangutan. Both of these species are ones that would go some way to fulfilling my personal wishlist!

Masai Giraffe continues to get my vote. Highly recognizable and iconic zoo animal that's in the base game and for which we have no alternate choices for (without mods of course)

I'd be happy with an alternate breed (if that's the right word) of lion, another highly recognizable and high profile animal in the base game, but at least we have other cats to give some variety. I know it's not the same but it's a step ahead of the giraffe.

I'm not certain we'll get another anniversary animal but if we did there are plenty of options. Ones not mentioned previously could include the roan antelope, made from the sable, the green peafowl, made from the Indian peafowl, or the Northern giraffe (encompassing two of the three most commonly-kept giraffe subspecies in Europe - the Rothschild and Kordofan) from the reticulated.

One that I've thought about for a while and come out liking is the Chilean flamingo. The American flamingo is more different in appearance (much bolder in colour), but it would have pretty much identical biome requirements. The Chilean flamingo, on the other hand, would have a couple of different biomes that would make it feel very different - taiga and desert as well as aquatic, grassland and temperate. They have much lower temperature tolerance than the greater flamingo and can withstand temperatures down to about freezing point. In Europe, they are the second most commonly-kept flamingo species behind the greater. They would also fill in a big gap in the game's distribution map, being most common in the southern tip of South America.

A couple of pictures of Chilean flamingos in the wild - I would love to be able to see flamingos that can tolerate a snowy environment:

I think the Dromedary Camel is very likely. Why?
  • Highly requested. (119 votes on the meta-wishlist)
  • Minimal remodeling and retexturing required (aside from the hump)
  • Would give us a habitat niche we don't have much of right now (African desert)
And for those of you saying that we won't get another anniversary animal, I'm sure Covid played a role in us not getting one for the 1st year anniversary.

I really still doubt we end up with a anniversary animal but if we do I think it will be a direct reskin which essentially is what it’s supposed to be. The black and white lemur was a direct reskin of the red ruffed lemur. A reskin isn’t really a animal that shares the same rig. The wisent, greater rhea, and Brazilian tapir all would need editing as they look different from their game counterparts. Even a good Sumatran Tiger done the right way has noticeable differences from the Bengal. We could still get them I suppose but I’ve always thought of a reskin from the old zt2 modding days and zoo tycoon 2013 as the same model but colored differently as a more accurate representation of the animal it’s supposed to be.

I think it would certainly be an animal similar to a base game one, but, didnt the BaW ruffed Lemur recieve slightly model changes? Mainly the beard was added as the Red Ruffed lemur does not have it. So slightly changes could be possible. A dromedary out of Bactrian Camel is still possible I think.

Yeah I believe you are right the red ruffed lemurs ruff seems to end in the chin area as to the black and white having a complete.

I suppose these animals could be possible with a little work or the camels for sure. I’d still expect a perentie, zebra, flamingo, or giraffe tbh. You never know tho with it being a anniversary they could surprise us with a entirely new model but only time will tell.

I’m with you buddy. I’m open to anything tho. I think this was the Sumatran tigers reaction to the Bengal being chosen instead.

I honestly have know idea. Maybe the release of the next pack my help by eliminating some possibilities? Dromedary Camel is my best guess, but I really am not confident.
