Winter DLC Speculation

But again, associations are subjective. As the recent conversation around the Twilight pack shows, some people associate raccoons with zoos, others with rubbish bins.
Well yeah I was just generalising. Every animal association is up for debate as everyone has different ways of seeing what an animal 'belongs' to.

The tundra pack concept really does nothing to excite me, unfortunately. Walrus, muskox, wolverine, even for the most part even arctic hare just do absolutely nothing for me, and they'd mostly be difficult to realistically fit into most zoos below a certain latitude. If we do get an animal pack centered around colder biomes, I'm crossing my fingers for mountains. It would still do little to scratch my biggest roster itches, but at least I'd be happy with some combination of spectacled bear, Pallas's cat, and takin.
Very much this for me. I'm used to getting packs with only 1-3 species that I find useful, but Tundra could easily have not a single species kept in local zoos (like the Arctic Pack did, which this would just be the animal pack version of). Mountains sounds a little more appealing given it could include species from a greater range of climates and latitudes, but unless it comes with a yellow-footed rock-wallaby, aoudad or Hamadryas baboon (none of which seem likely except maybe the baboon) it also sounds like it'd be of minimum interest to me. The rock-wallaby in particular is the only one of those animals that ranks high on my wishlist, and it's probably the least likely.

I've still got my fingers crossed that the next pack includes a few species from warmer climates - I just hope getting more than 2 animals per year for both Australia and South America isn't too much to ask.

It isn't home to the only uk herd of wild reindeer for nothing. We have the harshest winter weather and heavy snowfall annually despite really being a low mountain range
Didn't know there are Reindeer in the UK. Do they belong to their own Subspecies or are they the same as the Reindeer you can find on the Mainland?

I believe it is the same mainland reindeer. They are not actually from the UK at all but a 'reintroduction' of sorts. Back in the 1950s a Swedish herdsman visiting Scotland donated some of his domesticated reindeer herd to the cairngorm mountains. So they are not wild exactly but roam the mountain range freely with about 150 of them.
We used to have our own species of reindeer in Scotland but sadly they were overhunted to extinction about 800 years ago

How different that is. I would cut off my right hand for such a pack (not really, is meant more figuratively)
Walrus, Musk Ox, Snowy Owl and a Hare in one pack? This is really something that could bring me into complete ecstasy and makes me cry for joy like a little girl.

Btw ❤️ Love for all the Hare support ❤️

Why people putting Hamadryas in mountain packs when Geladas are right there lol Hamadryas are desert/grassland animals.
Because Hamadryas baboons also occur in montane regions (up to 2,600 metres), and while they’re not as specialised for alpine living as geladas are they’re still the preferred baboon species by a lot of people. They also require rocky cliffs to sleep on rather than trees like many other baboons, fitting the mountain theme.

I've also wrote a Concept for a Mountain Pack once:
  • Gelada (this one would definitely be my Favorite)
  • Alpine Marmot
  • Rock Hyrax
  • the Himalayan Monal seems to be popular among other Players and more Birds are always nice
  • a second Species of Goat or Sheep (Barbary Sheep, Bighorn Sheep, Cretan Goat, Bezoar Ibex)
  • Yellow footed Rock Wallaby
  • Yak (either wild or domesticated but I'd prefer the domesticated one)
  • maybe the Lord Howe Island Stick Insect could be used in this Pack (just take a Look at Ball's Pyramid, the Island where the Species was rediscovered⛰️)

Just realised another animal I’d really like to see if we got a Mountain Animal Pack is the lesser/puna rhea - not as common in zoos as the greater rhea, but they’re not super rare or anything either. Getting a rhea here would avoid them competing for space with emus in a grassland/dryland pack later on.

I’ve only ever seen Lesser Rheas in captivity. I think they seem to be common in captivity, even if not as common as Greater ones.

Yeah as I said they're definitely not rare, mainly in Europe (443 holdings for greater rhea and 54 for lesser according to Zootierliste). However, I've heard they're extremely rare or even absent in American zoos. Neither are kept here in Oz, so I've got no bias as to which one should be chosen.

So what? 🤷‍♀️ It doesn't matter if they often appear in zoos. I think they are great, I would like to have them and would like to play with them.
Yes of course, I only write why I would prefer wolverine, because they are not common, but you can want them. I am sorry.:giggle:

It's ok, maybe I'm a bit too emotional on the subject 😆

You're from Germany too, aren't you?
Do you know that they have Arctic Hares at the "Zoo am Meer" in Bremerhafen?
Unfortunately I can't find a picture of the entire enclosure

To be quite honest, hares are something I want even less than want birds. Not because they aren't awesome animals, but as far as I remember they are incredibly hard to keep and get stressed out easily. And I already see Frontier making them a walk through exhibit animal because someone confuses them with rabbits and I hate when people mix up hares and rabbits and it's absolitely ridicolous how often that happens here in germany. I get high blood pressure just thinking of those who call their domestic rabbits "Hasen", sheesh.
Not gonna riot if we get hares, but absolutely will riot if their habitat is walkthrough.

I'd make them a habitat animal where guests can enter, not a WE. At the Houston Zoo, we have (rabbits or hares, not sure, but can't get your blood boiling, Swjos) running all over the place, wild
