Winter DLC Speculation

To be quite honest, hares are something I want even less than want birds. Not because they aren't awesome animals, but as far as I remember they are incredibly hard to keep and get stressed out easily. And I already see Frontier making them a walk through exhibit animal because someone confuses them with rabbits and I hate when people mix up hares and rabbits and it's absolitely ridicolous how often that happens here in germany. I get high blood pressure just thinking of those who call their domestic rabbits "Hasen", sheesh.
Not gonna riot if we get hares, but absolutely will riot if their habitat is walkthrough.
I may be one of those people who mixes up the names 😅 . Although that's in regard to wild rabbit/hare. My spotting system : big = hare or small and fluffy = rabbit

If I'm not mistaken, hares have larger ears than rabbits, right?
For example, yes, but that doesn't fit with some domestic rabbits.
What itches me about the constant confusion is, that european hares are endangered in germany while european rabbits hardly are. They also have completely different needs regarding to food and yet pet owners treat their pet rabbits like they were hares...
Rabbits will run away pretty soon when you approach them. A hare will crouch and jump away in the last moment. Hares also have much longer legs, especially hind legs.

Mountain animal pack could be interesting for sure. And I'd also appreciate a cold weather animal pack. I just don't really know what kind of animals would be in it. Musk ox and a hare for sure (arctic, snowshoe). Other than that? I don't know.

Mountain animals however, I DO know what I want:
Takin species (prefer the golden)
Small mountain cat species (Pallas cat, Andean mountain cat)
Southern viscacha
Mountain hare
Spectacled / Andean bear
Chamois / Wisent
Asian highlands antelope species (Chiru / Tibetan antelope, Saiga)

That would be 2 predators (SA finally gets its bear, and we get a small cat species either from the Andes or Himalayas), three ungulates (the largest goat in the world, an Asian antelope, and either an extra Alpine animal or one that lives in East European mountains), a rodent (viscacha), and the first lagomorph. South America would get 2 or 3 additional animals which is really nice. Also an extra animal for Europe, and three animals from central/north Asia.

That's good to know. We have hares in the country (based off what you said they seem to be hares), and I always got them confused

Not bad, but I'd replace the vizcacha with a chinchilla, only because you added the hare and the 2 animals will look similar at 1at glance (of.course, vizcachas have longer tails, am I correct?)

Generally, hares are larger, longer ears, longer legs, longer face, overall more 'elegant' looking. Rabbits are smaller, shorter ears, shorter legs, a round face and overall a more cobby round body.

Ok, wait, maybe they are rabbits after all. Ahhh, I just woke up. Lemme get some yerba mate 🤣

I like southern viscachas better because they are far larger (50-66 cm long excluding tail, and 4.5-8 kg), chinchillas are cute but far too small for my liking (22-38 cm long, and 0.5 kg).

Asian highlands antelope species (Chiru / Tibetan antelope, Saiga)
Chiru aren't kept in zoos (which is a real shame, they're my favourite caprine) and saiga aren't highland animals as far as I know, preferring flat open steppe. I'd replace them with the yellow-footed rock-wallaby, rock hyrax or a baboon/gelada for the sake of diversity (your pack already has two bovids).

I’m definitely for a wolverine. A desert hare or Arctic might be neat but it’s hard to choose a hare over a musk ox, dromedary, Hamadryas baboon, or even a roadrunner would be more exciting.

Was so confused when a Friend mentioned that she has a Hare as a Pet and I asked if she means a Rabbit. She insisted that it is a Hare and of course on the Picture was a Rabbit.
Also heard once that Hares are hard to keep in Zoos (at least the european ones) but at least some Zoos seem to keep European Hares though. But even though I would be fine with either a Hare or a Rabbit, I would prefer the Rabbit a bit more because you can also have Groups of them just living outside of the Enclosures and if Frontier would ever start to include Animals that almost look the same in one Pack (Reskin of course additional to the other Animals) we would have the Chance to also get domesticated Rabbits which could be kept in Petting Zoos for which we definitely still need new Animals. Don't know if European Rabbits would be suitable for Petting Zoos or not. Does someone know if they are kept in a Petting Zoo somewhere instead of the domesticated ones?

It's ok, maybe I'm a bit too emotional on the subject 😆

You're from Germany too, aren't you?
Do you know that they have Arctic Hares at the "Zoo am Meer" in Bremerhafen?
Unfortunately I can't find a picture of the entire enclosure

They look pretty nice in their Summer Coat. Would be nice to get those in the Game.

I'd make them a habitat animal where guests can enter, not a WE. At the Houston Zoo, we have (rabbits or hares, not sure, but can't get your blood boiling, Swjos) running all over the place, wild
Don't understand why they should even consider putting them inside a Walkthrough Exhibit. They can't climb and the Barrier doesn't need to be very high (at least for the domesticated ones). I think Walkthrough Exhibits should be mostly reserved for cold blooded Species and flying and gliding Animals

A Tip to better differentiate them is the Fact that Rabbits usually live in Groups and dig Burrows while Hares are solitary and don't live in Burrows

I’m usually for most animals but I’m finding it really hard to get excited over the thought of hares and rabbits in a zoo game. Surely there’s got to be more exciting animals to stick in a zoo game.
I agree completely. On an unrelated note, should sloths be habitat animals or walkthrough exhibits?
