This is a review I recently wrote and its a shame, it had so much potential and still does.

I thought you wanted more depth in gameplay mechanics?
Really.

So you think, getting ganked in an asteroid field by NPC's, in gas giant's ring hundreds of light years away from the bubble. Just because you have logged into the game, is meaning depth of game play.

Sorry, but I disagree whole heartedly. That is just sloppy programming and should have been written out of the game years ago.

Why are you logging out with fully mined cargo in a ring?

100's of LYs from the bubble is equivalent to saying across the street.

Can't say I've ever been ganked by NPCs outside of the human space. But anyway, if you want to mine in peace maybe go more than a few footsteps away from civilization.

Have you actually tried Horizons 4.0 yet? Just curious.
Nope, as it doesn't offer me anything I'm interested in. 🤷‍♂️

I'm more likely to buy Odyssey on a good sale (and I mean real good) than I am to download free H4, since at least Odyssey provides a few things I'd actually like to at least experience. Because of the way Steam works, Odyssey would be a separate download than H4, despite both being basically the same code, IIRC.

So for now I continue to enjoy H3.8 when a good CG comes around, like the one we just had.

A King - Admiral is player who has ranked to the top in both the Federation and Imperials. Meaning they have ranked up in two factions that hate each other's guts and have some really big wars in their past.

It is the equivalent of me ranking up to the top rank in both the Rebel Alliance and Empire in Star Wars. Because according to some, that is perfectly fine and makes for excellent game play.
I'm ranked up with the Federation (not especially high). I've barely touched ranking up with the Empire and the only reason I'd do so, is to unlock Permits.

I'm mostly an Independent pilot anyway.

Then you have no idea of how big space is.

1) How many star systems are in say 300 light years of the bubble?
2) How many bodies/fields are in said system?
3) How many trillions upon trillions of square miles for a player to drop out in to is said system?

I don't think there is enough space on this thread page to take in to account the number of 0's after the first 0. to fully appreciate how small of a chance of finding someone is. It very possible to hide very easily in the bubble in systems with big populations, as space is quite... Well... Astronomically huge beyond your comprehension.

I am an Independant pilot as well, as I am still waiting to join the Alliance after 8 years (y)

Au Contraire. Evidently you don't not understand how big space is. If you think a couple of hundred light years is far away from the bubble... ha ha ha ha!

How the NPCs find you even inside the bubble? I don't know. Its a video game and I understand the game mechanics. Its how the game works so you can actually meet up with some bad guys and play a space game. Otherwise it would be a very very lonely and boring game.

Basic Game Mechanic:
  • Inside human space if you are on a mission or carrying cargo in human space - pirates find you
  • Far away from human space there are no NPC pirates.

Anybody who has played this game for more than 10 hours has figured out this very basic mechanic.

That's the thing though. Elite isn't boring and there is still stuff out there to find. Perhaps more than in our own reality. I very much doubt there's Thargoids out there. There could be a Guardian type race though.

And I never said our galaxy isn't teeming with life. It may well be. However, I'm also fairly sure most of it isn't. Stellar Forge uses real data and proceedurely generates Systems. Yes a lot of that data has been updated a bit since it was first implemented but it's still a pretty accurate 1:1 scale version of our future galaxy.

From the brief bit of information we've had about Starfield, it also looks like their 100+ ProcGen Systems will also be pretty dull to explore. Yet I'm still excited to explore them!
The Thargoid's and Guardian's are scripted events. They are not something that occurs dynamically.

But I am glad they are in the game and happy to see people getting enjoyment out of it.

My concern is not with scripted events, but rather lack of depth in the core mechanics of the game.

What?

And, I don't have problem with pirates finding me with "mission" cargo.

The problem is when they interdict you 20 times when you are trying to get to your destination. Pirates and Trade go hand in hand, the problem is the "20 times". You see, the vast majority of trade missions go to systems with security. The problem for pirates, is securtiy. That is why in every book, TV, Film, game, real life, you only get one chance to get the goodies, 2 if your lucky, As security would be all over you/them like bad rash in next to time.

I have no problem being interdicted once or twice, it's the fact that by that time, they would have more worries to think about than my cargo.

That is why I consider it so poorly done and lazy and adds nothing to the game but frustration.

Quite so. The Bubble itself is about 200ly across.

I'm currenty 200+ly out from the Bubble and there's a populated System out there. I've been mapping Systems within 50lys from it and there's plenty of NPC ships about, as would be expected that close to a populated System.

But you wanted more gameplay depth but now you're moaning about the exact thing you want.

Yes it's frustratng to be chased around by the same NPCs who are after you. Yet at the same time, if the Mission you took on is only a few jumps away, you can easily outrun them and hand in the goods for the Mission.

If they're doing it 20 times, it means you're not focussing on the Mission and instead doing something else and ignoring it.

When you take on such misisons, it's imperative to get them done quickly to avoid all those interdictions. Just be lucky too, that it's one ship and not a fleet.

Getting frustrated because you don't understand isn't the game's fault.

Good moment for cliche phrase: git gud.

Edit: Elite Dangerous has lots of flaws and problems. But a player's inabilities is not among them. Critisciing a game because of a lower level of skill and/or understanding makes them sound silly.

Nothing is shut off, I hate the short sightedness of people ono this forum. It's all about them and not what is in the best interest of the game.
I commented on exploration part. And when it comes to that, okay my exploration ship can jump roughly about 60 ly, per jump. Jump and preparations taking about 5 mins, it makes 12 jumps in hour. 720 lightyears per hour. 7200 in ten hours. 72 000 in four days +plus some hours.

What kind of thing falls apart under four days? I mean IRL tech can clock thousands of hours before really failing.

My 'Home' system is 700LY from SOL, not a single pirate to be found in any of the rings i mine, even then i don't consider 700LY very far out, its like 15 jumps to Bletani where my bubble base is in a half decent trader.
Interdicted 20 times is a bit of a stretch mate, most i ever get is 2 on a 20 hop route in my trader cutter which can easily take out any wing of NPCs, but lets face it you can evade NPC interdiction's with your eyes closed in anything but an overweight T9.
