2.3 exploration payouts + visual guide

Good work CMDR. +1 for you.

Having recently returned from a 14 month exploration trip (I set off ahead of the Distant Worlds fleet), it's slightly bitter news though. I wish those kind of payouts would have applied to all the data I collected on that trip! :(

We're not doing this for the monies!

Don't worry, though... One of these days... So many distant worlds left to explore... ;)

I'm out in the black, and have decided to stay where I am until the patch hits.
While the credits aren't why I'm out there, they help, and if these numbers are to be believed, I'll wait.

I am curious what the "highest payout" after this update will be for all of us. We will probably get 3.000.000+ in the first week, but will there be a system which value is more then 10.000.000 credits?

Ten million? Probably not, unless you have the LYR bonus applied, in which case it would be possible.
Your highest payout statistic will stay the same as before though (before you sell any new data in 2.3, that is), as it counts the highest payout you got for a system data sale so far.

True, but it still helps. :)
Would also have almost certainly made me hit Elite as well. I was disappointed to only get 4% into Pioneer from that trip, too.

I'm just about to cash in a sagg a trip worth of scans, do I have to wait for 2.3 to drop now or do scans have to be made after 2.3 to get this increase

It was said only scans after the patch drop count.
But I wouldn't want to be wrong, and cause you to lose millions....

Just done a quick calc and a system out near Beagle Point I've just found was worth ~3M.

2 x WW TFC
1 x WW
4 x HMC TFC

So 3M+ is pretty easy.

So I'm going to hunt Terraformable Metal Planets on my way from the Core to Colonia after the patch... nice.
Yeah, now that all terraforming candidates are quite valuable, paying attention to the habitable zones of stars and what's in there will be more profitable than the previous "if it's blue, scan it" approach.

Also, about highest payout: while very rare, systems with four ELW-s are possible, so with a first discovery bonus, that would net at least five million credits. (Assuming there's enough other valuable stuff in there.) If you multiplied that by three for the LYR bonus, you'd get 15M Cr, although personally, I'd say that that shouldn't count.

And if you're not using ED Discovery yet then it will calculate the habitable zone when you scan a star - can be displayed on screen (with all the other scan info) as an overlay to the game as well.

Only takes account of a single star but pretty accurate for most systems...

still a bit confused here

Yep. Another term would be: detailed scan (with DSS) / scan (without DSS) / honk.
what do you mean by "scan without dss"? the "scan" that occurs at 10mn meters or something, when landfalls and salvage sites becomes visible regardless of DSS?

It is possible to do a normal surface scan without having a Detailed Surface Scanner installed in your ship. This is what is called Level 2 scan in the statistics. It works the same as if you have a DSS installed (targetting a star or planet and then point your ship towards it until it has scanned the body) except that you get less data and also get less payment for the scan (a DSS doubles the value of the scan compared to a normal surface scan without a DSS). It is a common misconception that you must have a DSS installed to do surface scans and get first discovery.
