Patch Notes Update 2.3 The Commanders Beta - Changelog

Why decrease mission stacking to 3? If you can limit it by type, why n not just limit all types to 1 at a time and increase rewards substantially? The problem is having to stack at all, and while 3 is better than 20, why not just fix it entirely where one mission is all you can take, and all you NEED to take because each one is individually rewarding, not just 1/3 of the intended reward...

Why shouldn't I be able to stack missions? When I go to the store I don't make separate trips for every darn item, or even every separate task. And my local postie would not be impressed if he/she had to go back to the office for every item they had to deliver. If I want to do a round trip then why shouldn't I be able to stack as many missions as I like?

The problem is not stacking - it is incomplete or, dare I say it, poor mission design. Time constraints should be more realistic (as they used to be in the old Elite games) and if I get ambitious and on take too many missions then I might fail some. Planning was required in the old games. Get caught out by Hutton? Fail some missions and learn to plan better. Move on. And the same skimmers fulfilling multiple missions is just poor design. Better to fix the mission than to limit stacking. That is like putting the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff.

Everything in this patch notes list is great - EXCEPT this. Limiting missions to 3 is limiting the game play and hurting the game. The solution is to fix the mission system, not stick a bandaid on it.

Did we get bookmarks for points on planet surface? No mention of it in patch notes, but I'm hoping... :D

Nice job on everything else!

Haven't posted here in a long time, but just wanted to add my thanks to Frontier Devs for this big content patch, even if it's missing the long sought after multicrew as of yet. I know a lot of people aren't happy about the vanity cams and whatnot, but I love the expansion of the visual spectacle in the game they allow. The new stations, atmospherics, huge changelog and stuff.. I just love that the game is getting fleshed out, and that Frontier are playing the Long Game as such. I can also see where microtransactions will come in to play more in terms of ship-visual mods, and Avatar stuff.. but that's perfect since it doesn't affect gameplay, and for those of us that love visual customisation it's a great personalising of the game. I had stopped playing the game for months, but restarted just this last few weeks in prep for the content drop,
and I'm delighted that the game is being made less cold and empty feeling with NPC visual characters - just having a chatty fighter-pilot from the last update has been great to help that reduction of lonely gaming!

So after checking with a few people I've found out that your ship name doesn't in fact show up in the target/contact info for other players at all.
I can't be the only person that's a little disappointed by this if it's intentional and not a bug. What's the point of giving your ship a name if nobody's going to see it? I know you can get nameplates, but should you really have to pay for something so simple? And that only works if another player gets close enough to see it anyway.
If nobody's going to see it, we might as well go back to when we would just give ships names in our heads.

I think it might have something to do with this statement in the change log:

"If it's not our ship and they have no name plates, then we don't know the ship's name"

So, what? They're going to force us to buy nameplates in order for our ship names to do anything at all? Kind of a cashgrab if you ask me.

This is a highly impressive changelog. One change that does need to be made soon though (and I've submitted a bug report a few months back about this) is that the galaxy map and system map don't render properly on ultra-wide monitors :( #PleaseFixSoon

I am not sure as I haven't tested it myself, but this is what the statement appears to imply.

I guess it will be controversial for some if that's the case, but you can still send your ship name manually via the comms interface.

Fundamentally it probably fits into the cosmetic category, since another commander doesn't require to know your ship name in order to play the game and doesn't get any advantage from knowing the ship name.

Well, yes, but nobody flies the latter two... ^^

I don't know about this. I mean OK, you might be limited to how many fighters/gunners you'll be able to have, if you don't have one of the big five but on the other hand, owners of these ships will be looking for crewmen. I don't see much argument for allowing sidewinders to carry fighters for example, 'just so' you can have crew .. so a bit of a non-starter, to wish a ship had more seats than it does (I wish Sidewinders could carry massive hardpoints. They just don't).

So, what? They're going to force us to buy nameplates in order for our ship names to do anything at all? Kind of a bulls**t cashgrab if you ask me.

Your Cmdr identifier will still show though? (Throw in, imo)

Then I'll say again what I said before, what's the point if nobody sees it? We might as well go back to when we would just give ships names in our heads.
If this is intended to work this way then it's such an obvious cash grab attempt by Frontier.
And sure, it's not essential to know another commanders ship name, but I'd like to be able to see the names other people have given their ships, it'd make it more interesting seeing other people rather then just being like "oh hey, there's a commander flying yet another asp/anaconda that's indistinguishable from any other"

Although (as far as I can tell) you will be able to see other people's ship names, if they have their plate. So ... ?

Yeah, if they have a plate, which you have to pay for.
I don't think you should be forced to pay for something like that, especially when this feature has been something that people have been asking for for a very long time now.

I don't mind paying for this stuff, as it's helping both to support future development of the game, but also supporting an independent (and above all, British) games company.

If you like you can look at it this way. The big companies such as EA etc. charge £30 or £40 a time for the types of updates that we're getting for free! Couple that with the fact that we've not had an annual season pass in the last twelve months that we'd be expected to pay for, and a few quid for something here or there becomes extremely good value for money :)
