2.3 The Commanders

I actually think multi-commander ships would rock; but they need to be much bigger, far more self-sufficient.

Capital ships?
Or outpost traffic control?
Maybe taking passengers requires paying attention, who knows they may be asking for food and beverages the entire trip and ask for a refund if they're not treated like kings.

Drifting away from the concept of really big ships:
One person commanding mining lasers and limpets while the other is fighting off pirates?

Except that they've already said they have no intention of doing this.

As far as i remember, that's incorrect: they said it won't be a thing for 2.3 (and probably not any time soon), but they didn't say that it's a thing they don't WANT to do sometime in the future.

Multicrew will be just. A pilot and 2 assistants that can just take the small fighters or the srv you got in the main ship. I doubt something more complex. Saddly

I don't think so, they will have something to do even if its very secondary, we all like star trek and star wars, in these universe the team are always contributing in the ship (repairs, power managing, shield managing, turret control etc...)

Anyone else hoping they can design their own NPC crewmates like we shortly can do in commander designer?

Except. We're likely to end up with ships crewed by the cast of baywatch.

Probably end up with a crew that is similar to the captured Vorta that is controlled by a neural stimulator seen in this video:

You will enter your ship in the morning and there will be Keevan or Bob or whatever your crewman happens to be called and it will be repeatedly walking into the wall. Actually that would be hilarious so I hope NPC crews are added. Would be more funny than the ramming that used to happen plus I think NPC crews would be useful once all the bugs were worked out.

I want an ingame encyclopedia ; that goes into full detail of all the lore in the elite universe.
From how ships are built to all the way to what corporation builds toilets

The main thing I want answered about multicrew is ...

How will mission rewards be split? Progression toward Pilots Federation Rank? Will it be possible for someone to login to the game, join a multicrew, walk away and DO NOTHING while the main pilot takes the 'crew' through the galaxy exploring? Will the entire crew gain rank toward Exploration even though they have little or nothing to do?
What about the flip side of that.

I leave how to balance it to FD, but I bring this up as an example.

Does each commander lose the full credit value of the ship and cargo if it's killed? If they're getting the reward of a 4x powerful ship, it better be that way. You know, balance and all that.

I had a suggestion here https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...ing-Elite-Dangerous-Crewmate-for-more-players that could help players that don't have friends in Elite.

The idea is nice, but the question is - does anybody will want in his crew a newbie player which doesn't know the game and eventually doesn't know too much what to do or how to do things effectively? Also, generally for any "random" matchmaking - does anybody will want a random player crew member, risking that he will (for example) intentionally shoot with turrets off the target, to troll the ship owner?

My guess is that multi-crew will work best with friends and random matchmaking for it is not necessary (may eventually cause more troubles than benefits). At least I am pretty sure that I do not want PUGs on my ship... ;)

Also think about this, lets say ok I want to get to MC with my two friends that p0lays the game- one of them is on his way to the core, another is exploring the outskirts of the human space - I don't think they will get to my location just to fly MC ship to some res sites.
MC sounds great but honestly, how many ppl will really use it for long? Some close "clans" maybe, but average Elite player will have issues just to assemble the crew.

I think the new AI has shown that not everyone is an effective pilot, and out of those, not everyone cares to learn, or even feels they can... The multi crew may help some of those people find that they have a better time playing as a bridge officer. Give them a place in the game again.

Those struggling the most with piloting their ship, may benefit the most from the new multi crew. After all, the AI has shown a lot of people aren't the ED space pilot type... Maybe multi crew will give the game new life for those struggling the most with the new AI.
