So they were already talking about that. I was hoping we would see some of this stuff in the core mechanic changes there were talking about.

You almost lost me with your last reply I'm afraid, there is plenty of risk everywhere. "It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door"

And anyhow, the joy of Open is not knowing how the other Cmdrs will act when you meet them.

But as to this line, they are indeed looking at it and you will see some of this stuff in the core mechanic changes but, that was never 2.4. Core gameplay updates follow 2.4

We're off to Hutton Moon! And we've followed Mr Spoon, Hutton Moon!

I can't believe 2 people have made this reference and yet have not changed it to:

We're off to Hutton Moon! And we've followed Wotherspoon, Hutton Moon!

Just wanted to give a quick thank you for the work on the player journal and companion API. I was very happy to see those included. o7!

Im sorry man but the risks in solo and private modes are no where close to risks of open play. Or people wouldn't be complaining about it. Or combat logging anytime there is a threat.

And was it after 2.4? I thought said it would be during this 2.4 patch. My bad.

Welp. Here is hoping for the best.

What we really needs is a PvE mode so that the poor and tireless group admins managing the insane number of players across probably about 7 groups on the 3 platforms can have a breather and actually play the game instead of managing the groups.

I normally agree with you Alex, but a PvE mode is the last thing this game needs and I very much hope it never happens. A true C&P system is what's needed and with hope and a fair wind next year will see some significant changes in that area.

Nope sorry, the risks are exactly the same. You don't lose anything extra from being killed in Open, whether that's through misadventure or through being blown up.

Yes it was after 2.4, and a true C&P system is something that I really hope comes in soon (well after exploration mechanic updates obviously). Start off simple, when your bounty hits a certain level disable all docking at starports of that faction :D Make piracy/smuggling truly rewarding, I love being interdicted by actual pirates at CGs.

*Edit*

Actually I'm being slightly disingenuous as I did forget that some of the rebuy/bounty changes are in 2.4, sorry.

Im sorry the risks arent the same. You can stay in private group and not have to worry about other commanders attacking you for your cause. You can attack another player owned faction through a private group with no risk at all. If I were to do it in open, I would have the chance of being shot at.

This is all about giving the incentive for open play.

If its not risky. Then why did this guy say this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnYXTh4TCVo Hes certainly going out of his way to pvp to me. With no risk.

I was hoping Fdev would finally be addressing this. Because its in serious need of game balancing.

An update about it at the very least.

Funny I thought that NPCs shot at you too ;) You certainly can't pretend that you're guaranteed to know that someone's attacking your player faction, or that you would even be able to find them to stop them in Open. You are also misusing the phrase PvP there.

Anywho, this is getting a bit too much into the whole mode discussion. Feel free to go over to Hotel California and carry it on there. Updates about what is coming next year will be announced at the Frontier Expo.

No prob we will end it after this. NPC's will never outsmart a human player. EVER. You know it. I know it. They also dont have the same type of engineering we do.

This is also frontiers bus to drive not yours. They need to explain what exactly is supposed to be going on here. Its gotten way out of hand as this game has progressed.

Well, ive been on forums my whole life. We all know why that thread exists. And its why you're trying to push this conversation there.

This has obviously been a problem for a very long time.

NPCs don't HAVE to be as good as the best player ED is not that kind of game. What they need to do is play their role properly and be good "enough" to provide a fun and convincing game universe.

Playing their role properly is something they are improving ....... I do agree elite ships need to act a bit more like elites, WITH some high end gear. Remember tho. Lorewise elite ships are rare beasts indeed

It exists to stop people detailing every thread into the same pointless discussion. End of.

Getting back to the Beta for the moment, anyone else having issues downloading? Cleared and deleted all files and virtual caches - the primary download option starts, I'm getting a good download speed (~20mbs) but after a couple of seconds it dies with a file validation error (at '...\AppData\Local\Frontier_Developments\Products\PUBLIC_TEST_SERVER_64\Win64\0f\f91bb647b6806b8666914da6ffe5e0ec9e08b5067' - dear lord! :D ). Using the 'alternate' download option, the launcher starts to send at 800kbs, and receive at only 200kbs, whilst syncing files. Why on Earth is it sending that much data? Is it checking every individual bit that arrives by sending it back to the server? o_O

*Edit* And looking at what the alternate download is doing, it the same '...5067' and '...5067.part' files, both 1kb long, swapping places over and over again in the directory. Weird.

Went quick and smooth as butter for me brother. :( Hopefully it gets ironed out.

  • Fixed a small dot that appeared next to the throttle pin on several ships

OK, I'm impressed. [up] I'm very "detail oriented" and that incorrect throttle pixel has bothered me ever since I started playing 2 years ago. There are many more important bugs, so I never submitted a defect report, since it was only a minor cosmetic issue.

Thanks for fixing it!
