A Guide to Minor Factions and the Background Sim

Exactly.

Just be aware that one thing has changed significantly. As goemon pointed out from the 2.3 change notes, now if you cash in superpower (alliance, fed, imp) bounties, the bounties are distributed among the factions allied to this power. This could benefit you if your faction is a different superpower.

Thanks for highlighting this cmdr, bigtime.

Couldn't it also tank you if your faction is the odd one out in a system? Influence gains have to come from somewhere.

edit: and yeah, the systems I'm watching have all seen very unusual changes.

I'm a bit worried about this one. I mainly support an independent faction, which won't get any benefit from this change. Independents will likely suffer quite a bit in busy systems, particularly with the buff to the BH effect.

What's the change in the BH effect ? Anything apart from the superpower claim distributions I mean

Increased bounty effect.

For influence only or on the lockdown bucket as well-- to help thwart all those rebels and protestors...and English Bobs P

Patch notes says it's just influence. Same with murder. Hopefully it's also the lockdown effect that is changed. BH didn't have enough effect on lockdown, yet murder had too much.

All this shadow government like activity with the BGS can get a little, well you know. Give us clear rules and action effects and lets be on with it finally FD

One can flip around buying meds and food etc and then land and really have no game feedback as to what effect it had and the current condition the MF state is in. Hourly updates would at least offer a good guess compared to daily.

Hunting for bounties to prevent lockdown...do we kill 1 and return or stay in the field and really clean them out? If kill one and fly back...why?
Isnt the intent to remove entities that break the rules or just fly and dock fly and dock

Having experience of heavily trafficked systems (1000 per day) with wild swings of influence both during conflict and peacetime I would have to disagree in relation to a hard cap. Traffic in the thousands with the associated activity can cause dramatic swings. CG related systems often suffer from it, as do massacre/skimmer grinding systems. This is most readily apparent when a faction state activates that negates a particular activity (e.g. Election negating BH effects). If you're afflicted with traffic, pray its working for you!

There is a practical limit to how much a single cmdr/small group can do in the space of a tick, so in operational terms the above distinction is largely meaningless!

It is the case that the larger the population the harder it is to shift and requires significant ongoing effort to reach a particular goal.

edit: I would have to double check our records but if I recall correctly I saw a drop of at least 25%.

Edit 2: Goeman's post above may also account for such changes as an alternative theory.
I was only talking about conflict actions, i.e. shooting up ships in conflict zones and cashing bonds. Nothing else, hence the word-heavy sentence I wrote with lots of redundancy. I've recently been pushing a communist faction in a civil war. The action is more than 170kls from the primary, so few people bother to make the journey and I'm pretty sure I'm the only person participating. I tend to play as a law-abiding CMDR as I can't really be bothered with the extra hassle of being interdicted when I'm doing something else. The swings each tick have been exactly the same, except when I went on a bit of a murder spree to test my Python's shield mods - that introduced influence effects outside the warring factions, which resulted in more movement.

Good news, we seem to have been rolled back to influence values and system states as of Monday's tick.

the question remains whether we get a tick today based on Monday nights efforts.

Just logged in and seen influence numbers concur with April 10th.

Confirmed here too. I was online 5 minutes ago and influence in my current system was 50% or something weird. It's now back to where it was at 70%.

Also worth noting the election which had ended previously is now active again. So will be interesting to see if a tick happens still.
