A Guide to Minor Factions and the Background Sim

Yes, I know the factions involved in the conflict can get influence from other factions if said factions lose influence, because lost influence is bled into the rest of the factions of the system. I do not agree that it is now an open system and doesn't have any special rules (if that's what you guys are saying), because in 2.2 I have been able to reduce the once controlling faction to 1% in a single conflict, bypassing every other faction, and the sums of the influences of the factions involved in conflicts I've monitored remains more or less constant.
This might be the case if the factions outside the conflict received no input to change their influence levels. Under such a condition it's possible that the conflict is closed.

But we just don't know for certain.

A quick question for the experts among us:

If both an expansion and an election were pending, and both became active on the same day (because the expansion has been triggered two days before the election has been triggered), when would the expansion actually become active? In the tick when the election ends? Or one tick after that? Or in a completely different tick?

depends on the succession in which the BGS algorythm picks up system and calculates those states. no definitive answer possible imho.

- you could be granted with a zero tick expansion, if the algorythm sets expansion active first, and the elction after that.
- you could have to wait, till the tick after election is over and out of recovering state, before expansion goes active.

Your faction isn't required to have any assets. It will only go into a retreat if its influence drops to 2.5% or lower.

The 2.5% doesn't apply to a faction's home system. So your faction won't retreat from the first system you started in. This didn't used to be the case.

In fact it was the case from the day the retreat mechanism was introduced. Beforehands there was only "kick" mechanism to remove native factions from home systems that was linked to the external expanding faction, not the internal retreating faction. It is true, however, that at the end of the day results were similar.

Has active phase of expansion been changed form 5 to 6 days?

some are reporting 6 days expansions, others 5 days expansions. my personal obverservation is: expansion needs to be active 5 ticks, the expansion happens on the 6, and the state shows recovering the day after. ...

Thx!
Expansion was active on 6 Dec 3302, so already active for 6 days. Today's tick will be day 7.

Good luck, it seems a bit random at the moment although that could be said for many things related to the BGS right now. [smile]

Yesterday was Day 7 in expansion for us. Put in a bug report (not for the first time lately) [haha]

Agreed, seems like a bug. We have a pending conflict that should go active today. So this will end expansion anyways.

I'm not sure about this, not having enough data since 2.2. Keep an eye on things. Does the expansion remain pending throughout the conflict? We have seen conflict delay expansion rather than remove it altogether. As I said we couldn't confirm this is 100% accurate yet. A lot of weirdness with states since 2.2.

new answer in the linked thread :D QA and BGs is always fun.

Won't complain if the limit is 7. Once we have a couple of systems we can use the war/civil war trigger if we decide to expand again.

I was beginning to think if we don't expand in the next day or two I might find my friends list very much shorter and my IP address permabanned from the teabaggers forum.

Would have to look up the data if we had this happen. Gut feeling says it just delays the expansion.

does the expansion cycle speed up if u spam expansion missions ?
I don't think so. It just counters the daily influence loss imo.
