A Guide to Minor Factions and the Background Sim

Thank you to commanders Gr3y and Anoobis for your replies. I can understand percentages not adding to 100 because of rounding, but I have an example of one system where the total comes to 89%. I wanted to have some opinions before sending off a ticket, so thank you again.

That definitely looks like a bug.

The BGS definitely rounds the influence to the nearest fraction of a percent. This can be seen by observing a system with zero player activity. A change to influence can ripple for a few days as the BGS gradually takes the rounding into account and tries to balance at 100%. So for a few days it can add up to 99.8 or 100.2, but will eventually settle at 100.0.

Ohh what system is only showing 89%

We have noted one with a constant -2.5% missing influence. We believe it may be main storyline related.

Oh, there is a long tradition of systems like that. My own system adds up to 93.7, and it has been like that since forever.

In my case, I was told by support that there actually is a faction not showing on map - then one of the new engineers turned up in the system. So there might be something hidden in your system too.

Hey,

Quick question. Does anyone know who gains the inf when using the Bounty hunter broker in low sec systems? Is it the port owner or who ever issued the bounty?

In so far as I have observed - all bounties handed in through the Interstellar Contact option does not affect influence for anyone.

Superpower Fed/Alliance/Empire bounites help the owner of the station where they are turned in normally - but if you use the Interstellar Contact it does not.

Minor Faction Specific bounties turned in normally where they have a presense should usually help their influence in that specific system - but again, that Interstellar Contact is where they are not and it will only help your rep.

It's in the system map, and closely matched by the right-hand panel

Look for a double line in the system map properties like this.

If you see it, That would explain a missing faction.

Test system report for Wanted kills;

I slaughtered somewhere between 20-30 Wanted ships within the res sites in the test system.

System population; 1,286
Faction A; 64%
Faction B; 24.8%
Faction C; 11.2%

Influence did not change from cycle tick.
Reputation with Faction B dropped from Allied to Friendly due to kills and not handing in bounties. I managed to recover influence once I did hand them in today.
Bounties worth approximately 3.3 million were turned in from the work.
Influence remained stable otherwise, and a Pending Famine state for Faction A went live today.

I have another plan I need to focus on today, but will continue the harassment in this system for a time and see if anything happens.

A little update for anyone concerned;

Test system remains the same still.

Faction A; 64% - recovering Famine at the moment.
Faction B; 24.8% - went through Boom, in a conflict in another system and is recovering Boom currently.
Faction C; 11.2% - Currently Boom, started a few days ago from work in other systems.

I have continued to periodically kill Wanted targets - mostly pirates pulling me over in the system - and still not showing changes relevant in this system. On a side note, I have on occasion purchased items from the market in this system and the influence is not changing. It appears safe to state the influence change is only at the point of where the items are sold to.

Question about lockdown.

Lockdown shuts down every station owned by a faction, regardless of which system. Does it matter which system I turn in bounties to try and shorten the lockdown?

I've often wondered that myself. I suppose it comes down to whether or not the hidden buckets like 'wealth' and 'security' are system-wide or faction-wide. It would make more sense if they were faction-wide, but using sentences with word 'sense' to describe the BGS is always asking for trouble. ;)

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that the "Boom" state bucket needs to be increased a lot, or on the whole just be a lot more difficult to occur? It's pretty much the defacto "None" state these days... before most states expire there's usually a Boom state pending, and if a faction is in a None state, it's usually either Boom pending, or in a conflict in some other system.

Not that I hate the Boom state, just think it happens waaaay too often...
