Allow the VR '2D screen' to be disabled?

Dear FD team,

That would also be my biggest wish for FD to offer the 3d function as an option. For sure.
As a SW developer, I would also estimate that this should be quite easy to do because from the SRV or via shoulder camera, this is already possible. I think you don't have to program much but just turn it on.
That's exactly why I think it's a shame that the stereo view in the VR goggles should not be possible, because in my opinion it should not cost so much. In addition, I'm always a little nauseous when I'm walking too long in ED.

I think this is a political thing, because then the framerate would also drop drastically. Probably especially in the buildings. But see for yourself: It works with the shoulder camera or from the SRV. You just have to think away the SRV. The whole code is already there. I think this is just a simple mark or '#define' in the code. I am pretty sure this is a 3-day solution.

If it was "easy" to do, don't you think that they would have added it?
They've had a lot of priority stuff to fix and improve since Odyssey launch

And fair point, it may not be that easy for reasons we're not aware of.

I think the framerate in settlements would have been terrible for most users especially if they implemented it before the various optimisations they've made to Odyssey since launch

I think they should just allow it as an opt-in with the clear indication that you do it at your own risk (low framerate). That really shouldn't be a big deal. So by default the flat screen as it is now and who really wants it so the stereo view. That would be my biggest wish.
I was yesterday after the end of the Thargoiden CG times again on foot and I can not play that long. So after an hour I get a little sick to my stomach. In the stereo view this does not happen to me.

Agree very much.

They'd tell us to do one along with poor console players, if it wasn't for the fact that the implementation done 10 years ago still luckily works today for cockpit and SRV, and of course all the new fruit of Oddity still works in flatscreen. Doesn't mean people like me want to play that way, so we don't ;)

They said ED was built from the ground up for VR, they lied. They said it was for the consoles, they lied, What else are they going to lie about? They didn't tell us no VR in ODY till they got all the prebuys they thought they were going to get. Till VR support is taken up again I will spend no more money.

When did they say that? edit - the bit about "ED was built from the ground up for VR"

Check out way back machine where they were trumpeting VR support from the ground up. This is from 2015, just scroll the screen down a little where it's titled "Made for VR" (once it loads, it's a bit slow sometimes)...

So, if it was true, where the hell is support since Oddity came out if the game is built to support VR...?

And if it wasn't, shows what a bunch of liars they are drawing people in.

I suspect the latter.

I've sent a crap ton of cash FD's way, Alpha backer (£200 for that privilege), bobbleheads, voice packs. But can't play any content that I've already paid for in Oddity in VR in 3D because the devs they have nowadays didn't give VR a second thought.

I never questioned at the start when VR support was around even during Alpha that it would be depreciated- I bought into ED because it worked excellently in VR.

But what we have today is a 3rd-hand thought from FD, so that's a 2D screen and a grey background. Whoopy-fricking-do.

Just pointing out, the page that was dedicated to VR is here:

And this is what I don't get with FD: they show us a galaxy explorable in 3D and it looks terrific. They then hobble that awe with no regard for VR in Oddity at all, and had to give us the grey letterbox once sufficient stink had been kicked up in the forums, or we'd be having to remove the headset in order to continue on foot.

Thanks a lot FD having taken all my hard earned cash over the years, really appreciated... (y)

Regarding this topic I have found out a new behavior since last NVIDIA grafic driver update: When I return to my docked ship in the shipyard from walking by foot the framerate drops down divided by 2. I think this is on switch 2D view back to 3D view in VR. A lockout-login procedure to the main menu or a hyperjump will resume the old fps rate as before.
Steps to reproduce:
a) Stay in your docked ship in the shipyard and note the FPS in VR (~40fps on my side)
b) Leave your ship to get a walk by foot
c) Reenter your ship and note the FPS in VR again (<20fps on my side)
d) Start your ship and jump to the next star system, the fps rate is as normal again

This can be prevent by using the 3D view always also on foot

Tom
