Modes Almost Two Hours in Open (first time)

See the thing is about a computer game is, it isn't a job where I have to learn new skills - it's a game, a distraction from real life.

When you've spent a shift watching a 17yr old die on the side of a road because of some idiot reckless driving, or help an Ambulance crew patch up a victim of domestic violence then get your boss chew you out because you're not fast enough with the paperwork or because you parked in the wrong parking bay that morning;

Then you don't really feel like coming home to be forced into learning new skills.

You want to meta the game, fine you go for it. But regular people use games to relax and unwind after very long, stressful days. We don't want or need you or anyone else telling us how we spend our free time.

I could almost hear the violin solo you had in your head as you typed that.

What concerns me more is FDs lack of acknowledgement for a PvE mode. 50.000 players (circa) relying on player driven groups. Ridiculous.

Yes it is very concerning. I hope Mobius never retires or gets fed up with ED. I still think Frontier have high hopes that Open will at some point become the next big thing.
I wouldn't know, as I will never play in it :)

OT: I used to play Open mode OP, but other players often got in the way... not fun for me either, so it's Mobius or PG FTW!

Takes to Open in the most notorious ganking area outside of CGs, refuses to wing up with others or interact with them positively when directly offered to him, kicks the hornet's nest quite deliberately, proclaims there was no positive interaction and it brought nothing constructive to his game.

2/10, and one of those points was awarded for simply being able to write well.

Wow.

First off, I decided to try open where I normally play. I wasn't interested in trying a CG, as I have tried those in Mobius and got turned off by that experience.

Second, one cmdr appears, tries to get behind me, a second cmdr appears, both acting suspicious and then I get a wing request. No o7, no 'Hi' or anything. I found nothing positive about the situation. YMMV.

I've not a clue regarding the "kicking the hornet's nest" comment. To what are you referring? I said, that I did have a positive experience with the FDL driver, but it was not something unique to open. I can get that kind of experience in Mobius. And no, I don't enjoy getting ganged up on by other players. Some folks like whips, chains, and ball gags, but I'm not one of them. ;)

Wasn't looking for points, but thanks anyway. :D

Well said Sir, virtual rep++. :)

Oh, and to those who see my op as a open vs. mobius thread, or bgs manipulation, or a complaint of any kind:

It is none of those. I was simply relaying my one experience in open. If you got more than that from my post, either my writing skills need some work, or your reading comprehension does.

Have a good day. :)

Just like my post, the point was ignored completely.
Hence why they've gotten more out of you OP, none of it being the point.

But that is to be expected when all they can muster is a new "Wasn't killed in open" thread every month.
And pretend open is some sort paradise we should all be in.

Modes were here from the kickstarter and are here to stay, so we can all choose to play how we want.
if they cannot grasp that by now - they never will.

There isn't a Mobius/Solo/PvE fanatic agenda going on, but there is a PvP agenda.

Riiiiight...

More people have been pushed to Mobius by PvP'ers / gankers than anyone in the group has ever recruited.

I also have no agenda in that regard. I played in the Mobius group twice, both times it was so busy in the areas I was playing in I had to jump out and load my own PG.
So for me, the Mobius group is too busy for me to be able to play.

In fact, I think you may have mentioned Mobius more times in the past 2 months than anyone else.

This is also what's most shocking to me, as well. They've at least 50,000+ people who clearly demonstrate the need for such a mode... and years later we're still waiting.

The PvP community would have you believe it's FD's "silent consent" that ED was meant to be a FFA type game, but silence does not equal consent. Others will quote Sandro out of context with regard to Open- but that doesn't mean FD doesn't agree that a PvE mode would be beneficial, either. Then we have the speculation as to the "death knell of Open" if a PvE mode were introduced... to which the clear rebuttal is perhaps if it were to die because of such a mode, then all the speculated interest in PvP apparently ISN'T as "powerful" as people make it out to be.

It's a fact. Participation and numbers for just Mobius as a PvE-group show that a PvE-only mode is not only desired, but it should be available. The only question becomes how such a thing is implemented, to which I've said before FD has acknowledged their ability to control "friendly fire" with the Wing system in any mode- so all they'd really need to do is add an "indefinite" timer to this method for a PvE-only mode.

the simplest thing about the open environment, is you just never know what's going to happen exactly.
Umm you do... Some toxic idiot will try and needlessly destroy you for no in game reason or outcome... That's exactly what will happen... Repeatedly... :)

Going to be interesting to see what "Notoriety" does to this...

Open or not, it all depends on your personal choice, and that's fine. I myself prefer Mobius and other PGs. I definitely was open to more risk some time ago, but SDCs sad 'SpicyBois' thing (they didn't manage to kill my FAS, but still) and spending some time with the bunch hanging around at Obsidian Orbital led to the ultimate question whether this really is the kind of fun and company I'm supposed to have | keep in my limited spare time. And it's not. I still play Open now and then, and I have an iEagle that's perfect for scaring folks at Shinrarta when I'm in the mood for it, but then, I just don't care about what the current meta might be or constantly optimizing my FdL to top-notch level and all that. To each their own, PvE still gives me enough even after nearly 3000hrs, and that's my game & lifetime, not anybody elses. YMMV.

And in the end, it's all vain glory anyway (Kohelet).

There is nothing wrong with a developer choosing to include a survival PVP mode in the game architecture.

IMO it is lazy for a developer to use a PG mode as a viable PVE game mode.

Clearly, there are players that enjoy PVP / PVP survival game mode, and players that enjoy PVE game mode. These threads would not appear (other than valid BGS arguments) if an authentic PVE server / mode was available.

I am convinced FDEV likes all of this person to person conflict about modes (which occupies a substantial portion of the forums). The endorphin pops about name-calling and incomplete game architecture keep people connected to the game. I am being manipulated right now to write this response by FDEV. Silly me.

The "need" for a PvE mode was talked about back from the very start, long before the Mobius Group ever existed.
So it's worse than you think, as Frontier were told back in 2012 we would want/need a PvE mode.

For me personally, the real kicker is; "The Wall of Information" isn't just the defence to the mode system, it is also the excuse to not add a real PvE mode - because we can do it in a PG, just like Mobius has.

And rightfully so :) ... just keep your utopian dream inside PG where you can have rules which you want, without the need for FDev to alter the game basic behaviour. It mean no two different rules for two ships firing on each other: player vs npc or player vs player. (It doesn't sound friendly, I know, but it is my personal opinion about such request)

It's ok, but the fact is, that your choice had only one expectable outcome. CGs in Open are open arena, if you will stay in exposed place too long, you will be attacked. Play in open (not been PvPer) is about chose a tactics which will limit the risk and increase your chances for survival. It can be also seen as a challenge.

Some people simply find that to valuable and enjoyable, too.
It has nothing to do with your job.
That's kind of an underhanded insult, isn't it?
It sure looks like you are trying to assert that people who enjoy a challenging video game, must not have a challenging career.

What's up with that?

It's not like these video game challenges are all that visceral in the first place.
You can c-log after all!
You are not your CMDR.

I know people who work in mental hospitals, physical therapy, EMS, Police, Fire and so on that go and do Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu after work.
Have you ever tried something like that?
There are tons of folks that train for things like Ironman, and have full time stressful jobs and multiple high school kids.
What about them?

And you're here talking about avoiding video game challenges because of work stresses, and insinuating a whole bunch more.
Seems a bit much.

Ah...I wasn't in a CG. Not sure where you got that?

My bad, sorry. This amount of cmdrs (and behavior) is typical for CG. I've did some search and found that system you were in is only 11,9ly far from Shinrata Dezhra, this explain yours experience. Shinrata being the most visited system in ED (if stats on Inara are correct) and it mean that there is also high chance for all different kind of interactions.

Come on, it's about his personal attitude towards how leisure time should be spent after a long day, and I can very well subscribe to this.

You may haunt Open as long as you want. You just cannot expect everybody wants to join you there. It's another kind of sandbox.
