Am I getting too old but is the new content too difficult to access?

...

The way it typically goes down is that I get to the Titan on pretty much 100% health, fire the pulse analyser, find the human extraction points, deploy my cargo scoop and collector limpets, fire the extraction missile, successfully release a batch of pods ... and then get detected and fired upon. At that point I have to abandon the pods AND my collector limpets, retract the cargo scoop and start boosting off around the back side of the Titan ... all the while cooling with the beam to stay under 10%. I sometimes have to do about three laps of the Titan in my efforts to shake off my pursuer. When things quieten down I then start the process again (now on about 60% hull). Typically the same will happen next time (getting discovered just as I'm about to start collecting pods) and once again I'm running for my life round and around the Titan. If I'm lucky I may eventually end up with a few pods on board after several attempts but with about 25% hull remaining, at which point (because I'm being pursued again) my only real option is to menu log! I really HATE that the game pretty much forces me to do this (it's either that or just die after all that effort and accept that my game session has been a complete waste of time and contemplate whether to try again tomorrow with seemingly little I can do to improve my chances). I would gladly accept that I need to "git gud" if only I knew what exactly it was that I was supposed to get good at! And yes, I've watched Cmdr Mechan's video but his quietly sitting at the Titan doing his pod mining is not the behaviour I observe.

...
This is has been my experience. Huge hurdles to get in there and then apparently luck on if you get roflstomped on entry or occasionally you do get do so something.
Most of the time it is precious time wasted and time is the only real commodity we have.

My first attempt a few days ago ended up being blown to bits after collecting 17 pods. I shall try again after the CG ends but I'm just not very pleased with how the hunters can still agro on me even when I'm below 20% heat.

How? The Titans arrived in December.
December isn’t that far away now. We’re in October, approaching the halfway point to the month. Although I’m primarily referring to those initial captures around each Titan’s 15ly radius. Which I wouldn’t be surprised to hear if they accounted for most of the missing populations, with possible exceptions to make at Indra and Leigong.

Point is more that a whole bunch of people have probably been stuck on the Titans for a good while. So I’d be very surprised if they were all just being kept alive while presenting nothing but a waste of resources to the Thargoids.

Oh boy, I don't know how you do it. 😅

I went there when I was unlocking the Thargoid Pulse Neutraliser, I'm pretty sure I'll never to there again. I think my highscore was 16 interdictions on the way to the maelstrom. That gets pretty annoying pretty quickly, at least for me.
I don’t seem to get that many, even going to Maelstrom Hadad once, I don’t think I went above… what, 8?

Maybe I rank less highly on that ‘Thargoid aggression meter’ because I haven’t been shooting them for a few months. Been no less of a pain in their backsides despite tha, though, I’m sure.

And speaking of Hadad, I pity those who would have to work it in order to clear matrix systems surrounding it.

I’ve just spent an hour and a half of wasted life. Over the weekend, I’ve been trying to do some pod rescuing. I was able to do four attempts in that time. Here are my results ....

I am an established old-guy player with a fully engineered fleet and carrier, bins full eng mats, and billions to spend. Credits, prep, & equip not a problem.

When visiting the bubble I can't be bothered with the Thargoid war. It sounds like more of a hassle for prep, stress, & game bugs with each update with not much for gameplay reward. Help save humanity from extermination? I feel no attachment to the bubble civilization presented in this game. What is my motivation? And the F*n around time to participate (based on my perception) is just not worth it. I can't be bothered to spend several hours researching an aspect of the war to participate in, gather whatever materials, build some specialty ship, and then zip in to get destroyed repeatedly for minimal reward. And then have this all change again in a month.

I suppose I'm happy to just fly around, build an occasional ship, and kill some pirates. 1 hour gameplay sessions, happy, low stress. (y)

You and I are seeking different gameplay, and the great thing is that Elite Dangerous caters to both of us.

As for old-guy gaming, one of my daughters got married last week and the other bought a house. I still remember installing Morrowind on their PCs when they were about 6 and 8.

Right, this too. Similar experience. Constant interdictions that don't kill me but whittle me down to when I arrive I don't have much buffer to deal with. Also, lots of wasted time.

I can understand that... I was ill prepared to withstand 8 interdictions and hyperdictions the first time I did a pod rescue from a combat aftermath. I made it back to the station with no pods, 9% health and had to reboot a couple of things along the way. I was really upset. But I decided to try again after a break, this time I was successful and got a 22 million credit pay day at the end of it. I started enjoying the challenge. Now you're lucky to be intercepted and 30k a pod payout is not worth the time/effort.

Which is why I don't have any intention of going to the Titans... Having to endure the constant interceptions and nibbling away at your hull just to get there... You can't really fight if you're trying to get to the Titans and there is no real defense against the Glaives other than take considerable damage while taking them down. Their speed, along with the combinations of the lighting attack and caustic missiles, of which there is no escape or mitigation, means they are very formidable. Which is fine if you want to do combat, but anything else? Nah, not interested.

I was attacked by 3 Glaives at once, I couldn't tell what was going on with my pips and fire groups as the HUD was constantly jumping around due to the continuous, non-stop lightning attacks and the unleashing of multiple caustic attacks (no worries though, my ship was running above 130 the whole time so they burned right off! ). I'm not asking for a nurf, just gives us better tools and a way to fight back.

The speed of the Glaive is a major issue, there is no chance to dis-engage so you can take back the initiative. No small ship will be worth anything with the lack of hard points, speed and utilities. A medium ship is almost ideal, but most feel like a compromise, trying to balance modules and utilities to do a specific job is tough, but any ship that is outfitted for the fight, is too slow. Large ships bring all you need but are just too slow or lack maneuverability to effectively fight.

Armor is a real issue, beyond the dual issues of jump range and speed reductions, A >6000 armored Covette seems to last no longer than a 3000 armored Krait! I have no idea if the Guardian modules will help with the lighting attack, if you have multiple interdictions or hunters attacking, they will bleed down to become ineffective.

The lack of a meaningful stealth component is worrying as well. Just not interested.

Yep, absolutely. It is fantastic that ED offers a wide range of activities for players to choose from.

I am quite aware that ED offers a variety of gameplay options. I was replying to the OP and the topic of the thread.

I’ve just spent an hour and a half of wasted life. Over the weekend, I’ve been trying to do some pod rescuing. I was able to do four attempts in that time. Here are my results ;-

  1. Dodged 2 interceptor hyperdictions and a scout interdiction, but got wasted by the pulse (my fault I was a bit rusty)
  2. Got double glave hyperdicted, managed to escape (but it seems the silent, running boost and drop heat sinks don’t work anymore). Got to through to the maelstrom but spotted within 2 minutes despite my ship running at 16% heat. Boom!
  3. Third attempt, got through with no hyperdictions, interdicted by glaves, that was it. No escape and boom.
  4. Fourth attempt. Got through to the maelstrom, pulse got me first time, so I synthesised what I needed and tried again. Got through to the titan but again, spotted quite quickly, despite silent running and heat sinks. Rage Quit! (And some quizzical looks from my son about my language!)
I had no problem getting through to the titan before, but it seems the difficulty has shot through the roof. Have the patrols around Titan have increased?

It’s just another issue with accessing the new thargoid content. For example;-

1. Finding the Orthrus, it was incredibly difficult to find one, so most people gave up on that. (Has that been fixed?) Thank goodness for the sampling to stop alert systems.
2. The infiltration of settlements while dealing while avoiding thargoids, it’s finding those missions which are the problem.
3. Reactivation missions where the bases are already reactivated.
4. No more invasion systems, because we’ve got too good at sampling the thargoids (not an innuendo but it sounds like one).

On the other hand, I do enjoy what’s been done with the scythes, that’s fun but it’s been the only new content I’ve really able to access. I want to enjoy being involved in the thargoid war, but presently it just seems to be a turn off. Fingers crossed for update 17 next week (*) but I’ll admit I’m finding it a chore at the moment.

TLDR: Just someone being grumpy!

* changed due to a mistake
If you continue having issues with thargoid war content, the Anti-Xeno Initiative discord is a great place to get help.

It's just not Fun to fail over and over with such a High Cost to entry .....

and If a game is not fun people don't play it.

My Issue with this game-play is , if you fail any point you basically have to start over

I did better this weekend, Saturday, avoided the glaives every time, managed to sneak in and located the human pods. Never managed to extract any because the clipper’s weapon convergence was rubbish. Actually managed to evade after an interceptor spotted me too. Much more enjoyable despite not getting any pods.

However, sunday, every time I tried a rescue, it was glaives again. Gave up. I feel content is too much at the moment. Let’s hope that update 17 has some content I can actually access.

I now manage to get around 25 pods each time now. I still think the monetary reward is ridiculously low and without solid knowledge on what is the effect on war this seems to be purely altruistic activity, while also being one of the most annoying (hyper/interdictions) and demanding (end game class equipment and high skill requirements).

I think I'll pass. It's fun for sure, but the lack of rewards is very off-putting.

I have largely 'tuned out' of the Thargoid war effort. It was fun to start with, and the occasional reappearance of the Invasions is nice (and rewarding!) and does draw me back in somewhat. I think I was expecting more of a dynamic war effort and less of a 'BGS gardening' loop. More Fed/Imp capitol ships holding the line near the Sol system, ground based war zones etc.
Of course I am happy to admit that its very much a problem of expectations (mine) and resources, so probably a 'me' problem rather than anything Fdev have done wrong.
Saying that I'm still looking forward to see what U17 will bring, although by the time the servers come up it will be time for me to go work, boooooo!
Hopefully check out the barnacle sites and any new stuffz tomorrow!

I stopped trying to access the new content after acquiring some of the guardian stuff. That was just supremely aggravating To accomplish. And after many years of jumping through the required hoops for engineers, and guardians. The thought of essentially going through that again for the combined blue/green gear.... forget it. I'm out.
I view this as identical content resulting in the exact same end result. ...Get new weapons (at great annoyance) to enable shooting of slightly different enemies. The exact same format exists currently within odyssey on foot play. And that will continue most likely with blue/green weapons on foot. Tired of it now. game uninstalled.
