Amazingly Realistic Immersion Mod

I am seriously contemplating attempting this "mod". It sounds great and I'm a VR user. My concern, is that I'm not super computer savvy and these things always end up being more complicated than they sound. If I don't like the mod, how do I "revert back" to original ED? I'm surprised I couldn't find anything on going back to the core game if I don't like it.

Thank you in advance!

--- Yup. Already Step 1 and I can't figure this out. I followed the link to this page and don't know what to "click on" to download. I tried clicking on the x64 dxgi.dll loader but then when I try to run it, a pop up shows up on my desktop telling me "this file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action etc etc"

Is this mod just for advanced users? Please assist and kindly share EXACTLY what to click to download this 3dmigoto thingy and any necessary programs to run/extract this. Love to have a dark cockpit in VR!

Well it's a little bit confusing at the first times but you will get used to it alas probably even will start to hunt shaders after a while :3

First; you need to extract files contained in x64 folder of "3Dmigoto-1.3.16.zip" into game folder.
Second; you need to download Old Duck'sd d3dx.txt file and rename it to d3dx.ini then rewrite over the one came with the 3dmigoto in the game folder.

And that's all for starters. Offf wait it's even sounds complicated like this.

Download link: 3DMigoto 1.3.16 optimised for Elite Dangerous by Old Duck

This is basically the 3DMigoto zip file with removed x32 folder and loader and d3dx.ini changed with untouched latest Old Duck's ini file (downloaded at 5 Apr, don't know if he added anything after that). .ini file already renamed so everything needed to do is extracting this zip file to "\Elite Dangerous\Products\elite-dangerous-64" location.

If anyone wants to disable it, just executing the uninstall.bat would be suffice.

Old Duck, you might want to replace this zip with the d3dx.txt on the first page. As far as seems there will be no new 3dmigoto version anyway and lots of users confused even by the .txt to .ini conversion :3

--------------------------------------------------------

For the ones wants to play with the d3dx.ini file without restarting the whole ED from beginning could simply add this line below [Hunting] to very easily reloading the changed config file with one button. you can change the button ofc;

reload_config=F8

Thank you for your reply. Your english is a bit dicey, but it helped a little.

Problem, as expected. Where EXACTLY do I put these files? Of course, the directory you guys are discussing is nowhere to be found. I can't find anything for elite-dangerous-64. I've googlked and tried ways to find it, but can't find this elite-dangerous-64 thing below at all. (I'm not using steam ED, I use Frontier's ED)

D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Elite Dangerous\Products\elite-dangerous-64 ( <----- Can't find this elite-dangerous-64 even if it's not the steam version)

When I look on my computer I find this
C:\Users\tom\Saved Games\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous

or this....
C:\Program Files (x86)\Frontier\EDLaunch
By the way, I tried putting the files in this folder and nothing happened.

As I predicted, this sounds simple but is already a pain in the . LOL but I want it! : )

Please advise on WHERE to put the file? Also, the extracting mechanic for the zip file is confusing. Like, what files INSIDE the link you gave do I put into the folder once I find it? Seriously, us "regular folks" need like a 1 minute video on this and then we'll know how. The video should show what to download, how to download, how to extract it, what exactly to put into a folder exactly.

Thanks in advance. Caps isn't to be rude, just for emphasis bud. Cheers

Normally I spoke only broken English but multiply that with five as I didn't slept for two days an as usual my brain turned into a pudding already.

This is my location as I bought it with the steam. So I have no idea where is the non-steam version's location.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Elite Dangerous\Products\elite-dangerous-64

Would anyone help me know where my non steam version of this is......? Need the non steam location. I've looked all over, and can't find. See above.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Elite Dangerous\Products\elite-dangerous-64

Thank you except AppData isn't "there" at all when I follow that path above. I've googled it, and there seem to be rumors that it is "hidden." Any idea how to see appdata? You have it but I most definitely do not.

I didn't even think about that part....
Under "View" there should be a checkbox to see hidden folders...Select it and you should see the "App" folder.

Thank you everyone. I simply had it "hidden" and now am able to find the directory and get this nice mod to work. It is working, and I do enjoy the darker cockpit....especially in VR. A couple questions.

1 - When I press F2, it does make the cockpit "darker" without as many lights (I love it - I'd take EVEN darker in VR tho!)....but it then makes SPACE have all the nebula and galactic core again. I have to choose, when I press F2 its either darker cockpit and "normal bright pre-mod space" or Regular Bright Cockpit we've always had and DARK space. Is there any way to have BOTH the darker cockpit AND darker space?

2 - The darker cockpit is really cool. Especially in VR. Still, the "blue button graphics" next to the controls in the cockpit are still very bright as are some other lights. Even though it looks great and is darker, is it possible to make the cockpit built in lights EVEN DARKER? Almost gone?

Thank you guys! Great mod tho!

That's a recent addition I've been using as I explorer out on the rim. Modify the following by inserting semicolons before if / endif, and space will remain black:
Code:
[ShaderOverrideInterstellarDust]
Hash=4db942934cad0b29
;if $showInteriorLights == 1
  Handling=skip
;endif

Next question:

No, not at least on the ships I fly. Removing these remain lights literally REMOVES them, so that there are holes in your ship. Best you can do is to adjust your gamma (I always turn down gamma in VR) and HUD brightness and fly ships that don't have annoying spotlights in them.

I've just downloaded and installed this, but I noticed that the dust wasn't removed in Supercruise, only in normal flight, so I added the following to my ini file just after the ShaderOverrideSnow section so it also remove the dust in supercruise. Forgive me for not reading 21 pages of the thread just to see if anyone has already done this..! lol

Code:
; Remove the particles that move past the ship when in supercruise
[ShaderOverrideSuperSnow]
Hash=13c7cd6955a2b95e
Handling=skip

Awesome mod btw, thank you muchly

Addition to the Old Duck;

Changing the Global toggles at the very beginning will toggle them on/off at the startup of the game so if you want an effect to on/off you can reverse the 0/1.

The Old Duck's toggles are reversed; they will be on if global constants are = 0 which if the hash part is "if $showthing= 0"

secondly you need to adress the ship's name, few things are able to be turned off in some ships, MonkeyPants (Sorry if i remembered it wrong) would able to turn off for some if you could look up in the past pages.

While this mod emphasizes BLACK space, it can also provide COLORFUL space for those who want it, especially when turning off prototype lighting. Here's an example:

seagull1.jpg

I currently have galactic dust (which unfortunately is the same shader used by nebulas) toggled opposite of cockpit lights, so that when I turn off the lights, my "eyes adjust" allowing me to see vibrant nebula. While not very "realistic", when I actually visit nebula like I am here, I want to see them in their full vitality.

That's the visuals I want all the times lol is there any chance that you can share your full graphics and override .xml's?
It might be a little while. The key two are already listed in the OP, along with turning the HUD off (which turns off glass attenuation) and NOT "skip"ping the galactic dust shader.

oh I'm not skipping dust; I do use a reverse polarity to get blue dust instead of the brown sh*tty looking and very boring one. It does help with illuminating the dark sides of the planets too.

Btw I never catched an image like this with all of my efforts to catch this in near bubble. I have a explorer soul I guess; I could just jump between systems without breathe nor purpose, just for being amazed with the image.

I tried to say i wanted to check if you did changed sth else too idk :v
