Ah ha! I do believe I detect the fragrant whiff of sarcasm... and fair comment too. But if you were willing to spend more than this much on the core game with it's minimal content, then FD I'm sure feels they're doing you a favour by doubling your content for less than double the price. :p
I'm well aware of the fact that I've bought into some early access game, despite the slightly misleading blazing-your-own-trail-infinite-freedom stuff. I've just never seen an expansion/stand-alone (I'm still not sure what it's supposed to be) going into pre-order when there isn't even a definitive list of features, let alone the developers admitting it'll be released as a shallow framework and expanded upon in due time (and I have really high hopes of that based on my post 1.2 experience). Just like PP I'm not sure how stuff like hidden bases on planets will conflict with whatever lore they had going prior. For instance, I'm afraid landing on planets will be anything but a seamless experience, that exploring them will simply use the current USS-style of "random" encounters and that all bodies outside the bubble will be just as barren as the rest of the universe.

Not seeing what the confusion (nor some self entitlement) is here.

The "expansion" will effectively be Elite Dangerous 2.

Players new to the game will be able to buy it for X amount. Those already in game will be able to upgrade for X - N amount.

Those who will no doubt still feel cheated that new players will get it for less than they pay overall are forgetting that they already the game and the base game will be a year old.

Same as someone who buys a Game Of The Year version of something. They get all the expansions and the base game for less than the individual costs.

Yeeeeeeeeeesssssssss!!!!!!!!

...it's really not hard, it's an expansion, so no it's not a new game, it'll be added seamlessly to your current game so yes you use the same commander and same account. It's really not hard to understand jeez.

The trouble is people read Michael's comment and didn't link it to the question he was replying to. Alone, it may be confusing, but if they had of read the quote and related it to that, then it would be obvious.

But then they (not Mordin86 in this case) would not have as much to moan about.

yes updates, ie: 1.3, cqc, nothing has ever been confirmed about beta access to expansions.

ahem ... from Mr Braben!

At the Develop conference this week Frontier boss David Braben told Eurogamer the prices were set so high in part to keep player numbers low during the alpha and beta phases of the game.

"We've taken flak for it," he said. "But the important thing for the alpha is, for it to be a genuine alpha, we didn't want huge numbers. Maybe we shouldn't have restricted it by price but it seemed like a logical thing to do. It seemed like a fair thing to do.

"And we're also making sure the people who backed at the higher levels are getting ongoing benefit even when alpha finished. And all the people who backed the at premium beta, which is finishing soon, as part of that they get all the expansions. So there are still benefits to these things."

This gets you all major downloadable expansion packs for the game, which have yet to be announced. Both the Elite: Dangerous alpha and premium beta includes an expansion pass.

I'm happy with that :)

Not surprised though...was pretty obvious this was going to be the announcement IMO...just happy it's finally here! :)

Well, it's a teaser trailer, we'll probably get a gameplay one later on. For now it's nice to just know that the planetary landings are indeed coming, even if only to airless worlds for now.

My question is, will airless include ice moons? Because those are some of the worlds that I am the most interested in to begin with.

Seconded, currently the icy moons are fairly worthless white balls floating in space, while in reality Europa or Enceladus - type moons are quite fascinating, and should be of interest to explorers rather than making people activate the friendship drive immediately upon seeing them on the system map.

If it's crafting items that're already in the game then why not. Something else though, once you've crafted an item what do you do with it? If you're not gonna stick it on your ship then you gotta sell it. Means a more active marketplace... and possibly inter-player trading.

I'd bet on customising your Mako.

About the annoucement, looks promising. Not convinced it will be interesting for long, though, will depend on how it's done and how well it"s finished with complete systems and not "lots of development still in progress".

Also the loyalty discount is absolutely hilarious in light of new players getting both the base game and the expansion for 40£

This is all that is wrong with the pricing for the expansion, I'm on board with the pricing and a year's worth of content but not OK with the fact that we pay more than new players for the same game. That is wrong however it's dressed up

since the topic is growing like mad I will post again:

Horizons - it's a separate game to the existing Elite? Do my commander transfers to it? I dont get it...

Your Commander from ED will transfer into EDH. Think of EDH as ED mk2. All progress moves to EDH.

QUESTION

Anybody know if you get a loyalty discount on the Lifetime expansion pass or just on EDH?
