Answer this.

There is quite a lot of this thread and I haven't read it all, so this may have been said already. If so I apologise.

If there were a PvE flag in open I would have thought that those with PvE on would tend to get instanced together as would those with PvE off. So what would be the difference between that and choosing to join a PvE group or playing open?

The problem arised from the launch there should be only two modes Offiline and Online ,the very moment that changed the players that are scared to lose anything would never be in open and it is down to that fear alone the modern generation that cant face losing anything, also the fact u can tell pve from human on the scanner

There are no nasty pro PvE posters (disclaimer: ok thats bull, I accept that and declare that it is wrong. There are and maybe Im one, who knows. Its Monday, Im tired and theres no sugar in the tea room). Only PvP posters who will not accept reasoned and articulate debate without resorting to insults. Hence their scarcity. Some indeed are, like Fang. He makes good points and in general I tend to agree with him and where I do not he can at least accept that in good grace. Then there are others who create a facsimile of civility here, yet their actions and posts elsewhere betray them. You too Ziljan are okay, despite not agreeing with you very much. There are several pro pvp whom I can sympathise with entirely. They bought the wrong game and I can sympathise with that to a certain extent.

Yet, within the last day or 2 alone, I can quote half a dozen or more "PVE" posters throwing around juvenile name calling towards people who enjoy PVP.

A lot (but not all, of course) of those juvenile name calling will be in response to PvPers digging at them. Neither side is blame-free in the insult game

Nope, you'll get griefed by the hole of the black queen. I mean queen of the black hole. :)

Now I have Soundgarden and Beavis and Butthead in my brain. Thanks.

Ok, you guys couldn't have planned that better if you'd scripted it out, good stuff!

Yea! Nerf black holes! They might kill me! [mad]

They already nerfed them, what, you want them nerfed again? Ok, fine...now, where do we get a few billion square kilometers of bubble wrap....

I have seen a number of threads in the past few days regarding PvP crime and punishment and how it can be improved. Massive player groups like Mobius have proven that Open is far from the most popular mode because of PvP, in fact it may be the least popular game mode available. Question is, Why is it so important that we have mandatory, or rather "unavoidable" PvP, and why must it be imposed upon every player in Open?

We don't really know if Open is "far" from the most popular mode. There have been a number of polls on this forum about and around the subject:

Jan 2015: How do you personally play Elite: Dangerous?
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=93738

Apr 2015: Do you play solo or open?
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=126334

Apr 2015: As a PvE / Solo Player, I prefer to...
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=132826

May 2015: Solo players: Do you want to play Solo or would you play Open if it was altered in some way?
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=144075

Jul 2015: Do you want a Open PvE

Aug 2015: What sort of change would you like to see moving forward?

These polls are not representative, of course, are a bit older, etc., etc..

If I would hazard a guess though then I'd say that 30% - 40% of players are in Open exclusively, 20% are exclusively in Solo, and the rest mix modes with some tendency to Open if things were "better".

FDev will know for sure.

This guy gets it! I know! Lets also make sure you can't run out of fuel and you can instantly jump to any system in the galaxy.

Plausibly two or more, yes. Sounds like plasma. Imperial hammer rail guns look like a lightening storm. Rails are blu-ish. If you had a weak shield and didn't put 4 pips to system (which roughly halves incoming damage) then that's possible.

But a python usually has quite strong shields if you have class 4 or above. Class 3 or something? Please note I'm not knocking you, just curious (and no not judging the ship build either; literally just curious).

In retrospect I was guessing on at least two players.

I had D rated shields I believe, like I said it was a mining loadout, so it was totally my own fault I guess for being in Open in a mining ship! I sometimes forget I'm operating in Open and travel in Open, which is a kiss of death!

But anyway, if I took offence then I withdraw that offence taken, if that's possible!

I have no problem you dissing my loadout or my PvP fighting skills, they are both below par! I used to feel okay in my A-Rated Clipper in Open, but not so much these days! Although it is good at getting out of fights faster!

I do plan to fit some PvP ships out and go and re-hone my old skills :)

I'd go further than that.

Understanding it is not required because it has no material effect on the fact of it. This is game. Pick a mode and play it. If you don't like any of the three modes, stop playing it. If you just don't like one mode, don't play in that mode.

Do not stamp your feet and complain because this is the game that you bought. It is exactly as advertised. You do not get to remake the world according to your own vision.

Reference the quote "exactly as advertised", this is where your entire line of argument totally fails. Remarkably, the quote is even underlined. Let me remind everyone publicly of a story of many hundreds of kickstarter backers who bought into the "vision" that was described to them in the kickstarter campaign. Do not presume to lecture us as if the viewpoints given are *my* vision, or *our* vision. It was in fact the vision that was sold to us by FD. Here endeth the lesson on how not to embarrass yourself on a public forum.

Because in every game ever made that has PvP as an option, the players who main PvP are always the loudest, angriest and most attention demanding people.

So very true.

I can even quote of this very forum to prove this as unequivocal truth.

Maybe I am just not hanging with the cool kids, but I VERY rarely ever see another CMDR. Last one was a few days ago... we were sharing a trade route, sort of. Using the same system a couple of times, anyway. We said "Hey" to each other and kept on keeping on. That being said, it's not called Elite Harmless. There are people out there trying to kill you. There are NPCs out there trying to kill you. The universe, at large, is trying to kill you. If and when the Thargoids show up... guess what? They're gonna try to kill every last one of us.
