I don't think adding an optional special effect that allows normal engineered weapons to be able to inflict at least some damage to Thargoids would upset the applecart. If the special effect is balanced at the right level (a suitably small damage % against Thargoids offset by power draw and/or heat efficiency trade-offs) then a full set of Guardian weapons should still be more effective (say double the damage v. Thargoids per hardpoint). It would however allow for more tactical options.I love that Guardian Weapons aren't engineerable.
1) It means (after the grind to get them) I don't have grind even more just to be competitive, just let me fight Thargoids already!
2) It means they can be balanced vs the Thargoid foe
I don't want the option of easy mode via engineering grind, I love that people have to improve by getting better. [up]
Yes I think it's intentional so Frontier can set a scenario and balance it, hope so anyway. Engineering would make a mockery of that.
I should emphasise that I am not talking about allowing engineering of Guardian weapons, just allowing engineering of nominal weapons to the point that they would have some level of effectiveness against Thargoids.
