Anyone else thinking of asking for a refund?

I bet non of people threatening with uninstalling/asking for refund will delete their saves. Guess why :D Let's see the screenshot of OP's deleted save first and then to discuss his statement.

Im on my third commander and this is the one i have had longest, enough hours so that i got to dangerous in combat, i guess.
My first two commanders i cleared the saves out of frustration with the engineers.

But you still feel sufficiently entitled and under-rewarded for your £50 that you think it is reasonable for FD to give you your money back if one small element of the game is changed in a manner that you don't agree with? Seriously? I don't even...

I think how small the particular element is debatable - PP is whole "update version" when it was released.
And how significant the open-only restriction is debatable too - for example, if purchaser have bad internet so never thought (s)he will have chance of lasting enjoyment in open, but purchased the game solely because all features were emphasised to be available in "solo, which is single-player by all means but economy/state of universe and requirement for at least some (not necessary great) internet connection".

How discussing refunds relates to resetting own save I am not exactly sure?..

No, it's not debatable in any serious or worthwhile way - the game worked fine without it, and 99% of the game's features remain unchanged by the proposed change. If you feel it is; pay to put it in front of a lawyer for a preliminary discussion and see what they say. It'll be "That's fifty quid, please. If you think that's expensive, I've just saved you a few thousand by telling you that you have no case".

People are going to ask for refunds when the server gets turned off... Probably take FD to court too!

A lot of people don't seem to understand that you basically forfeit all your consumer rights when buying a license to play an online-only game...

Note I say license... YOU DO NOT OWN ELITE DANGEROUS.

Why would i delete my save? I dont even understand the logic of connecting the two.
I dont play much but i paid for the game and if FD proposes to start arbitrarily deleting features, the question i have, is why arent you concerned about that?

It helps whenever the next time you decide to buy back the game.

I think we should encourage them to take the legal option...really. The only way to get the message through would be to call their bluff and dare them to do it, and quit feeding them the attention they crave...most of them will be back in a week or two after they go deal with it. Some wont and they will genuinely leave...if thats all it takes to provoke them, then perhaps its a loss the game can manage just about Im sure.

Forumites posting these threats has been ongoing since the internet was first created...wanna take a wild stab in the dark how many have been successful?

Dont just talk about it or make noise about it...do it...anything less is a sign or weak character and the temperament of a 3 year old having a tantrum. So by all means...sue them...go on, we will wait here and cheer ye on from the sidelines and promise ye wont hear the laughing till yer out the door...to spare yer obviously fragile ego ^

They're not deleting anything... And even if they were, FD is allowed to do so. FD could delete the whole spaceship thing and make the game a Mario Kart clone if they wanted!

the game worked "fine" is hardly a clear-cut legal definition ;)
Neither "99.99999999999"% ;)

Also you can see that I said straight away before that I am not going to do anything with taking FDev to court over 50 quid I've spent years ago. I am in UK and I am very realistic about it being totally not worth it.

However there is also USA where they have ongoing thing called "class action" when you don't need to pay exorbitant lawyer prices all by yourself - as long as you gather enough miffed off people. Especially when many of these people actually spent more than just 50 bucks.

I don't think so.
Apple also thought its their own iOS for their iPhone and they can change it whatever way they want (and changes were minor anyway). Pretty quickly they had to reconsider (totally out of good will and voluntarily, of course ;) )

Not quite sure how you can get a refund from an free update to the game?

Powerplay was formally announced to launch as the third major free content updates for Elite Dangerous. It was released on June 5, 2015.

Good point... Nobody actually paid for Powerplay! It wasn't in the base game!

I thought the Engineers was as low as it was possible to go in bad game design, but here FD is thinking about changing the basic nature of the game after we bought it.
Not that i really care whether pp is open only or not, but just on the principle that FD shouldnt be rewarded for changing the basic nature of the product from what was advertised and sold, I am thiniking about asking for a refund. This sets a precedent i dont want to see play out.
A vendor removing basic features from a product after its sold and the money is in the vendors pocket seems unethical, maybe fradulent, and possibly illegal.

Not only would I not succeed but I would actually feel like an idiot, asking a refund after 4000 hours in game.

Plus, however I may not like this change myself, Fdev are within their rights to change things in their own game (read the EULA)
