Patch Notes Update April Update - Patch Notes

I have seen a 7 years old kid dock and undock on his first try. Where do you get the ideas for these "new player helping" features?
Maybe you should implement a quick survey in the uninstaller. Could look something like this:

Why do you want to uninstall Elite: Dangerous? 1. I had no idea what i'm supposed to do and a game didn't even try to explain the game mechanics in an entertaining way 2. I knew what to do but i got bored doing the same thing over and over again for insignificant rewards 3. I wanted to play with my friend but the game mechanics are so broken that it was actually better to play alone 4. It was really, really hard for me to take off and fly outside of a station 5. Other (write your own) *insert text-box here*
I will say that the training mode is very lax and needs to be updated, but I started playing and leaned what to do in my first couple of hours playing. Landing is very easy, it makes me laugh when I hear people bragging that they bought a docking computer.

  • "Drag Munitions" engineering modification now disables the victims boost function whilst it is active

Congrats guys. You just put the last nail in the ED PvP's coffin. I imagine a wing fight, when drag seekers, and frags disabling the ships, then torps killing the shield generator. Almost half of the PvP community left the game in the last few months. The other half will left now. And you will have a very big open mode with full of gankers, who sunbathing, because all of the players will play in PG or solo. Well done, you fixed the instancing problems with this too.

It’s true. All the people on Elite discord that already walked away and uninstalled are rejoicing in their “I told you so” moment. Frontier, you really should reconsider this drag munitions idea.

Who else is waiting for this to be a thing?

PvPers fighting over the "drag effect" for 4 pages and then there is this guy.

Thanks dude. Even though I absolutely despise those senseless "all hail FDEV" posts, this one made me laugh.

Sry folks. But we are all getting seriously worked up here. I fully agree with @L'Intouchable and I can only shake my head when reading @Ziljan 's posts.

If you introduce a weapon effect that is so powerfull that everyone will need to use it and ship-builds and wing combat tactics need to be changed, than this can hardly be called "balancing". Balancing is done by introducing small and settle changes. This is the opposite. And it is a change in the wrong direction too!

Why would you introduce a change which leads to the use of inflated shields (!?) and simple to use gimbal weapons / seeker rockets while punishing CMDRs who rely on agility and speed for their defense and the use high-skill fixed weapons?

And my last and maybe most important point for 95% of the playerbase: FDEV is making it too easy for griefers and gankers! Bigships with drag ammo and long range weaponry will just obliterate everything.

PvP is affected by weapons/defense changes far more than any other playstyle.

You’d think Fdev would balance around the highest level of combat that exists in-game, but historically, they’ve been difficult to get through to.

I mean no offense to those who don’t partake in PvP activities, of course. I do quite a bit of PVE combat myself when I’m just trying to relax in-game.

But special effects -the few that make a difference against NPCs- are rarely important against enemies that die in about 30 seconds anyway.

Does the drag effect even affect NPCs? And even if it did, does it matter? They aren’t hard to target at all, and will often try to face tank you, if not fly straight in front of your line of fire. This change will do nothing but negatively affect PvP.

Everything else in this update, yes, even the starter area/assistance modules, I support completely. But this drag thing needs to be reconsidered.

I want to know these 3 questions. Im not trying to be mean here.

Does frontier have a balancing team?

Does frontier talk to known PVPers with experience, like Riot or Blizzard does with High MMR players?

Are you afraid to associate with PVPers because some of the community see's them in a negative light?

I'd really like to know the answers to these questions. Because all I have seen in the past few years is a lot of favoritism and refusing to acknowledge some of the core issues in this game.

This is doing more harm than good folks. There are lots of good dudes out there that know their business. Please put together a balancing team focused on player interaction and engagements. Its imperative this is done. Because what we are getting now and in the past is not working.

This is what I've been saying! I mean, Frontier fixed that blue computer screen on the DBX. Now it is yellow like it should be. Amazing! This is much more important than anything anybody is whining about in this forum. A bunch of babies, the lot of you.

I found the sudden color change really odd as well. Lakon, what did you do?

All fun aside, it's good that one is expressing their grievances, but resorting to talking down FD or throwing tantrums about both real issues non-issues without suggesting solutions is not the right way to go about it IMHO. Being a long-time lurker, I see those posts growing in quantity every time I take a look at the forum.

Disagree extremely much with hyperspace dethrottle requiring a module to be on.
It literally just presses one button for you on every jump.

Also uh, drag munitions disabling boost seems like an EXTREMELY bad idea for everyone.

Otherwise, nice update, i obviously can not use it myself, but the game definitely needed a newbie update, years ago. But better late than never.
But, i am starting to wonder where the stuff supposed to be in the game last year went..

Good questions but at the very least, I’d like Will or someone from Frontier to clarify what the intention is with the Drag update. It’s in the Damage Balancing section... what is it intended to balance? Everything else in the update is fairly obvious, whether you agree or not.

Fdev, what is the Drag Munition update balancing? Checks calendar to ensure it’s not April 1st

Sounds good cant wait to start my new pc account. Going to wait till the 24th but check out all the new stuff on ps4 been on that platform for a long time cant wait to start a freash game on pc with all the new stuff.

Would ECM be a sufficient countermeasure against the missiles and therefore the drag effect attack?
As it stands today, speed is still the most reliable defense against missiles.

ECM has too long a cooldown, unless you run two of them. Even then, you have to time them perfectly, and they take up valuable spots for shield boosters/chaff/sinks. Many medium ships are severely limited in terms of utility slots.

Point defense is spotty at best, and has no effect on packhounds.

Not to mention drag munitions can also be applied to frag cannons, which are definitely the big concern here.

As previously stated, hitting any ship with a single pellet of a drag frag cannon is enough to apply the effect, which is incredibly easy to accomplish.

drag munition : i'm for everything who push against this meta pvp gaming who is plasma fdl. That will force players to think with more diversity , so it's cool for pvpers.
but yeah, it's also cool for gankers.it's cool too for non fastest ships.nd that permit to annoy (in pârt) new speedy ships.
so yeah , good balancing guys

This "update" remove the skill factor from the game. If you don't have skill to evade, it won't hurt you. You just spam the seekers, and the gimballed weapons, thats it. This will not fix the FDL meta, because most of the players use FDL, because the hull tanks have so many counters (scramble, modul snipe, seekers, packhounds, etc). So we need some balance in this part. Maybe bigger power draw to shields and boosters, or more effective counters against missiles.

All fun aside, I'm pretty NOT delighted* regarding the paltry list of bug fixes (especially when that minor DBX change gets top billing). I've invested a lot of time and money into the game, and I really love the game buried under the bugs, so it's not as simple as "go play something else." Though I suspect that's exactly what I'll end up doing if this update truly ignores all the bugs affecting my gameplay. Point is, people get emotional about things they invest in and care about. If I see a stranger's truck rusting out due to lack of care, what's that to me? If my own vehicle starts rusting out, well that is indeed upsetting. Even if my mechanic puts pretty new tires on (the new trading system is pretty dope, as the young folk say), the rust still ruins my mood.

But I appreciate your enthusiasm. Heck, I was just like you, once. Don't let me and the others dampen your spirits.

*Really, mods are allowed to go in and edit a person's post to say something 100% the opposite of what we write? I never wrote "delighted" but quite the opposite. That's worse than censorship! Holy cow...

Frontiers are aliens like goids, but frontier feeds with salt, tons of salt.
Each subsequent patch brings players to greater despair, more salt on the forum.
Looks like they are so greedy that they had to add seeker extra boost.
I just wonder is there anyone who ask for that?
