Patch Notes Update April Update - Patch Notes

How on earth can we discuss the meta (which you continually bring up in this thread) without talking about the FdL?

You said "Permaboost is exactly the problem that I think it is. It's a crutch for medium and large ships, and an albatross around the neck of small ships." This is something I disagreed with, no need to put words in your mouth. I explained the bigger problem of hit point inflation, as well as expressed my belief no amount of permaboost is going to keep a large ship from getting out-maneuvered by a competently flown small one.

You said "combining evasion with TLB can cut down on your Pac DPS by 30 to 60% " which pretty much every other PvP'er disagreed with.

You said "DPS as a counter argument. Yes it is a counter ", which again pretty much every other PvPer disagreed with since we're generally of the opinion evasion trumps DPS and that pumping up DPS does little compared to evading the opponents DPS and effectively applying our own.

I'm not the one putting ridiculous nonsense words into your mouth. As far as the claim I'm trying to "educate me on things which everyone already knows"... it's actually every PvPer in this thread disagreeing with you. So I fail to see how you're part of the consensus.

My impression is that he is trying to find a way to get back to agreeing with the PvP community, sort of a "can't we just put this all behind us?" tactical maneuver similar to effectively blocking packhound spam with point defense whilst reversing like crazy.

Edit: don't tell him I said this, it's better if he thinks no one noticed.

anyone having this issue? i go to shipyard and it just keeps loading then jumps back to the Starport Services screen
having some issues is one thing, but the possibility that all commander data are lost is anothering thing. All progress, all data, all mats, all ships, all is lost, i think that would be a bit anoying. Im just a bit glad not to spent too much time there.

It's more like a marathon, where one PvPer after another tries to explain how PvP actually works, and he simply outlasts us all. Hopefully someone else will take the torch from me shortly, it's getting tiresome.

Moderation post.
This quoted post is an example of 'playing the player'

If you have nothing better to post that to try to demean a poster, you would REALLY be better off NOT POSTING.

We can help you with that on the new forums so do everyone please take note.

"Transport" missions are showing with fewer selections and some longish range ones - like 180Lys+ distant. Was this by design? Trying to find something about this.

Getting really heavy FPS drops after installing the patch. In stations I used to have around 200 fps and now I'm getting 30-60. Occasional disconnects as well but other than that looks like a very solid patch. The FPS drops make the game unplayable for me though since it used to run like a dream. Hope this gets addressed asap!

Does somebody have an issue with the "Restock all" button in a starport services tab? There remains 10 credits to restock and I'm getting "Server error" message after clicking it.

You're correct I took it a bit too far with that one. Sorry about that.

I only hope you so immediately and vocally call out posters when they break out the analogies of gankers to psychopaths and such as happens so often. Cheers.

This is neither quantity, nor quality. This is about a design decision that was made early on in the games SDLC; to tie the UI and HUD elements to an XML file.

I was referring to such a decision; one that can not be undone without spending significant resources (time, money and people) to change it. That is the nature of development. It happens in every project as the software grows in size and complexity, and especially when you release it and your customers think up new and imaginative ways to break, or use the product in ways you didn't (or couldn't) think of.

In this case, Frontier likely never figured players would (want to, or figure out how to) change the HUD colour and thus designed UI/HUD colouring around that one element of the file; so by the time it came to light that that's what players were doing, it was already too late to change it without the aforementioned resource expense.

oh, you were being serious. sorry, i thought your previous post was ironic, and jumped in.

indeed, every decision removes a bit of freedom. and you are right but i insist: that decision, to tie the pallettes of the hud and the game world, in a computer game based on cockpits, in the year 2000 ... that's not the nature of development, that's just people making bad choices.

how much would be the cost of fixing that mistake? what are the competing priorities? we will never really know, and i don't trust frontier's public statements in that area.

I just got a message in the Comms saying that servers will be down in 15 minutes (at 20 UTC) for emergency maintenance.

How on earth can we discuss the meta (which you continually bring up in this thread) without talking about the FdL?

Ok now we are communicating, sort of. This is good. It's not that I don't think the FDL is relevant to what the meta should be, it's that I think it shouldn't be at the center of a discussion on balance. A fully balanced game would have several different classes of ships each with an important role. If you start out from the position that "here is a ship that works" then you are stuck basing the mechanics of unrelated ship dynamics around that single ship. We can certainly disagree here, but imo that's not a good way to design holistic game mechanics where every ship is fun to fly for it's own sake.

There is no contradiction here. Permaboost can be a one of many crutches that larger ships use to exert their authority over smaller ships. I think we will disagree about the last part though. What you say is maybe true for pilots of unequal skill, where both pilots are NOT fully aware of their maneuvering options, but that isn't the basis for a balance discussion because that argument can cut either way.

You said "combining evasion with TLB can cut down on your Pac DPS by 30 to 60% " which pretty much every other PvP'er disagreed with.

Because they weren't flying my ship with it's limitations. They were flying meta ships. It's just a difference of experience, not a difference of opinion. I can't help it people decided to think theirs was the only valid experience.

You said "DPS as a counter argument. Yes it is a counter ", which again pretty much every other PvPer disagreed with since we're generally of the opinion evasion trumps DPS and that pumping up DPS does little compared to evading the opponents DPS and effectively applying our own.

Again, this is more of a difference of experience. As I said before already in this thread, I am sure their experience is valid in their cases. But my personal experience is that when a person is attempting to dodge my fire, they aren't typically good enough to simultaneously return fire (except in rare cases of jaw droppingly good pilots). This conundrum is as old as ancient martial texts. Most capable fighters can focus on on good offense or good defense in any given moment, but only true masters can deflect your attack while simultaneously attacking in one single move, or even a single fist (eg like people who have mastered the Force Cannon, and they do exist). So in most cases if they are attempting to dodge, then I don't need to because they aren't attacking. If they are attempting to fire and I have superior firepower, then I still win that segment of an engagement. So anyone who builds an inferior DPS build on the premise that they can dodge and do more damage is either a master of the technique or they are lunch. I think the people who promote this part of the meta hard are likely jedi masters. And I have fought a couple of these. But they are the rare pilot in Elite in my experience, and hence should not be the basis for a discussion on module or ship balance.
