At Lavecon - CMDR: "Why do all stations look the same?" - MB: "Gamescom"

I dont know if it will be big gameplay stuff, but we will see something new for sure. Being a little excited cant be wrong.

Yeah, this. I suspect it means legs for Season 3, because I can see why it was less important before walking around. But we will see. It will take some 20 days to know for sure.

I don't think you got the gag :)

"..CON" is where people tell you somethink about something that they know ain't gonna happen.

Yep, that blew completely past me, lol.
Perfectly aware of what "con" means, i simply didn't get it as you rightly said.:)
Well, that's the daily embarrassment for monday out of the way then, thx.:D

To what exactly?

Content.

Powerplay was take this package to station A from Station B, or kill umpteen million NPC's. Engineers was grind out materials and data to unoick stuff for your ship.

Both of the ideas are great in principle until you get down to actually doing them.

So just a season of content, adding in flavour, stories, maybe improving on CG's and missions. Not "here is something really great, but now go and do this repetitive thing time and time again to achieve it".

I think it is demonstrable that the people who enjoy the game the most do not necessarily participate in the grindy stuff, like Distant Worlds, Cannon etc etc. Give us more tools to do our own thing in the game.

when SC comes out of its alpha....if I see some of you naysayers that don't do there homework on it actually playing it instead of your beloved ED I will haunt you in forums and in game lol....saying..."I told you so!":D

When SC will be released, then we will can talk about any comparitions. Till then....not really a point, is there? They work on their game, it will be released maybe next year, maybe in 2018. When it will come, then we will talk.

Now NMS for example...it comes this week and we will be able to compare how it feels and what's different between games.

Going to have to say my hype is nonexistent. I was excited for this game back in 2014 and briefly for Horizons in 2015 but I've long since stopped caring. I've only been more and more disappointed as time goes on.
Maybe they'll finally get it together but ... I highly doubt it at this point. I've been burned too many times now.

Soooo....basically same old tired "emergent gameplay" argumen with no exact arguments why current content is bad. I hope you guys will come up with something real and each time you repeat same words, using word "content".

Gameplay *is* content.

Pffft. I have been doing Powerplay for over a year and am not into RP.

There are a ton of things they could add without having to do repetitive tasks. I would say that it is far too easy to say "gameplay is content" and not justify what is exciting about the grind.

Off you go then, all ears.

Lets have your thoughts on powerplay fortification, preparation and anti 5C tactics first and then follown up with the materials grind.

I just want to assure you all lads that I am in no way paid by CIG lol..........its just I see them implementing the game mechanics that I would love to see in ED.

we have a fantastic flight engine....fantastic galaxy to roam around (a bit samey everywhere but hey ho its space)....now it needs more gameplay imo and walking around our ships/flying homes is the next logical step...

now I mean this with a bit of tounge in cheek but when and if FD implement fps stuff I just hope its not more txt driven gameplay...
meaning I want to use my gamepad to move my character around....and not type "go north"....

because at this rate its kinda how im seeing it

I can only go around doing the same txt driven missions for so long......will this ever change?

if sir braben came out and said "look its ED,you fly a ship about and that's it...no getting up and going anywhere else"....well id shut the hell up and stop wanting ED to progress into a more modern gameplay approach.

FPS in ED will be text driven! you will experience 200 frames per second on all platforms.

Please name few of them. Consider how realistic they will be needed to implemented, what's smash for buck is and how such things won't get repetitive themselves done for multiple times.

What I am arguing against here is that many people say "FD says they will add new feature, and it is very repetitive..." which is nonsense in my opinion. Every action not being manually controlling Boeing can be simple enough for people getting bored rather quickly. NMS will suffer similar complains. There's no magic wand here. Game can be peppered with interesting things, but people accutely aware it is a game won't stop looking for patterns and repetition.

As many pointed out grind is really something people have to deal themselves.

I'm so massively strong super amazingly....

Neutral.

I'll let FD do the job of getting my hype levels going by showing something substantial. I hope it's not just a lackluster implementation of multicrew and/or ship launched fighters.

And dear god I wish FD would get off the "everything has to be instanced" and "everything is delivered via text". That's actually something Michael Brookes said at lavecon, something along the lines of "We deliver every piece of content via ingame text".

Maybe doing stuff like a surface scanner would do well being more than just text on a screen, like with a visual effect? Maybe add a history graph for price development of commodities? There's so much in Elite that's currently just a boring number or string on the screen which could be spiced up immensely.

The mission POI scanner jumping around on the HUD was a nice little thing. We need more mechanics work like this and offer some flavor.

The big question for SC is will ships ever be fun to fly? Right now the answer is no for me. I don't want to feel like I'm piloting a giant Master Chief.

As a long term player I'm always hyped to hear what's on the Horizon.. but probably on the lower end of the hype scale.

Although I'm a long term player I'm by no means a hardcore elite player, just a couple of hours or so a week though I am a devout PC Gamer so my (new :)) rig has many games vying for my attention.

For some reason though I find this to be the only game where I probably spend more time in touch with and lurking around the forums than actually playing the game.

Maybe I like the idea of playing better than playing?

Don't get me wrong I do love ED but maybe its more of a long distance relationship with small instances of intense coming together with the forums acting as long distance comms. Hopefully Gamescon will pave the way for longer periods of coming together.

Hmm, think I may be waffling now. Back to work!

My answer is no. It's my experience that what I'm told "hyped", and what I'm "sold" are two very different things. Each major update I usually am disappointed with the headline feature and have to be content with the side bits like, tire tracks, air traffic control chatter, bookmarks, engineer bases etc. The pattern is that it's the quality of life additions that I enjoy and look forward to and not the big items that always appear to be poorly thought out or unwanted - powerplay, CQC, engineers etc. I would be happy to see the pattern change but not holding my breath.

I'm looking forward to GamesCom & the Elite Meet Cologne, but for now I'm voting neutral as we have no idea what exactly Frontier are going to announce.
If they're announcing great stuff, then I'll get hyped/start looking forward to it, but until that happens it's: "Show me what you got"
