Automation and Scripting - An investigation into further abuses of BGS and Powerplay

I know a lot of people whine about this has nothing to do with the modes. It kinda does.

Whomever they are attacking, if their actions were only available in open. These things could be hunted down to 0 rebuy if their operators left them alone. If anything these bots are prime example of the frustrations people have in fighting a proxy war (with the option of direct PVP). Fact is they arent going to Opt into being stopped. A bot or a player, they are the same in this regard.

If we had the ability rip them apart and watch carebear stuffing fly across the galaxy. We would.

Very frustrating trying to play that part of the game :(

Its not a level playing field when it comes to this stuff. Bots or no Bots.

But just like players, there should be no question. The bots should be able to be stopped with all sorts of tools they give us in the game called WEAPONS. Surprising to a lot of people I know. But thats what they are for.

The famous "OPEN" is just another instance of a limited number of players.

sigh... can you post in any thread without turning it into an "open is the only mode all others must go" complaint?. you know what else would remove (the problem caused by) bots. making it a pure single player game perhaps just allowing a few trusted friends to play with you using your own machine as host as well, but no one in their right mind would suggest that. (I wouldnt either despite a L4D2 / Payday2 type set up being perfect for my play style)

you can fix anything by simply turning it off, but it does not make it a good idea.

any fix has to be made taking into account fundamental aspects of the game. it would be like me saying "every ship is overpowered compared to an E rated sidewinder... therefore every other ship apart from the sidewinder and every other module other than e rated have to be disabled!". ultimately my suggestion would fix my problem... it does not make it a good idea tho :p

This is nothing to do with the modes, if someone has the talent to script a bot don't you think they can also uncheck a bloody box in their router settings and make an open bot impossible to instance with? Jesus, stop trying to shoehorn your modes manure into every discussion, especially when it's as ill thought out as the tripe you've posted above.

Having a bot in open being unable to instance with other players is just 2 clicks on the router admin page. Theodrid is so damn right.

This adds more to the theory that the users of the bot are not the coders, but it might have been coded for private users and is not for sale :D

I'm struggling to wrap my head around why a person/people, would buy extra accounts & run bots just to in effect de-stablize a medium size player faction, in a make believe universe.

I can understand producing scripts & bots to give you more money, god mode ships, instant long jumps, but to attack another players faction?
I used to play X3 where scripting was the norm, but this one here makes me scratch my head in astonishment.

The thought that came into my head when reading the OP's post was...could this be the FDevs, playing with the BGS by running scripts themselves for some reason!

The bots were probably originally written as trade cash grinders, someone with a PP grudge just set them running on PP tokens instead of money.

As for buying new accounts just to do it with, how many people have you met with more money than sense, put malice before financial responsibility or who tried to buy friends ?.

It just seems nuts to me.....then again, there's plenty of nutjobs roaming around in the real world!

...This is an epidemic that is likely more widespread than people are aware.

Epidemic: a widespread occurrence of an infectious disease in a community at a particular time

So this is supposedly being used by an incredibly small amount of players, doing something an incredibly small amount of players do effecting an incredibly small amount of players. To quote Inigo Montoya "You keep using that word, I don't think it means what you think it means".

Cheating is cheating and should be dealt with harshly at all times but in no way is this an "epidemic". What is an epidemic in game, bugs. The unreal amount of near game breaking bugs that effect every player every time they play.

No, Its impossible. Its the root of all problems that has to do with the multiplayer outset of this game.

Ridiculous. And the speed at which some here have grabbed the PP/BGS excuse is astounding.
You didn’t care before then realized it’s your only semi-coherent arguement.
Ridiculous again.

Not really its pretty simple. Use PVP to shoot the bots. Use PVP in defense for people attacking player systems. Really not that hard to understand people.

IF / When when the time comes that the cure is worse than the disease... it is time to accept the illness and embrace our fate.

Is PP and BGS gameplay viable if botting is widespread?

Seems like a fight you can't win. Carrying letters in your free time against 24/7 scripts would be a losing proposition.

If botting is cogently applied to the BGS, you could kind of wreck the whole game for everyone (messing with lockdowns, ua bombing, mission offerings, etc.).

I hope FDEV considers offering non-BGS bulletproof basic missions at all stations until this gets sorted.

Is the new mantra now PvP (with Open only mode) is now the only viable remedy for bots?
Is that really what you are saying?
